Gone is the beautiful atmosphere and stunning music. Gone are the contracts and the progression as a hitman. And gone is the open-world freedom to do things in any order/method you like.
Hitman Absolution is a very linear, quicktimey, dark, game, with no in-game saves, and few checkpoints.
Absolution is clearly a stealth game, as were its predecessors, however, the earlier games allowed you to kill everyone and complete missions as a "mass murderer" if you really wanted to. Absolution punishes you for killing, punishes you for not being stealthy, and punishes for being stealthy too.
You can no longer disguise and free-roam. Disguises still get you spotted, so sneaking around and hiding is mandatory, whether you like it or not. Besides you can't really free-roam anyway, the levels are sliced up into little pieces and must be completed linearly (go in one direction, along fixed paths, trigger cutscenes to get to the next sections).
Also, there are MANY enemies in this game, few civilians. No longer can you avoid people and use a single syringe or anesthesia. You can choke out anyone in this game, and as long as you put them in a storage crate (why are there 30 storage crates per level in places that don't even make sense)

To me, choking out dozens of people and hiding their bodies in creates sneaking and hiding everywhere you go is a VERY different game than other Hitman games. Gone is the freedom and creativity. Hitman Absolution is now just a very different stealth game, more like Theif than Hitman.

Absolution is the least fun Hitman game and I don't particularly like the story and the direction.
The game is split into 3 parts, yet the prologue was hours long, was extremely dull, dark, repetitive and boring. It's also longer than the 3rd part of the main story.

A mess of very linear, dull, dark missions full of quicktime event style interactions and
I dislike many of the changes introduced in this game, such as the Instinct superpower. I tried to avoid using the Instinct superpower as it totally killed the immersion for me, but the game really wants you to use it. There are times you're surrounded by dozens of enemies that are all constantly detecting you and changing into a disguise makes little difference.

You can't even close doors anymore such a strange thing to remove for a stealth game. I do like the new improved aiming controls though.

Some of the worst levels in the series. very liner. For example one level "run for your life" which has horrible quicktimey sections like trying to sneak past armed helicopters. I had to do this tiny piece of the level about 20 times because even sneaking and hugging corners the helicopter still sees you.

Can now carry rifles inconspicuously, not that it matters, as being unarmed and in disguise still gets you detected.

Everything is locked behind upgrades, just being able to run fast or carry multiple items, you have to complete challenges (like finding hidden items in levels) to get basic abilities like running fast.

Additionally, you cannot complete some levels (such as rose wood) with silent assassin, without first completing all the challenges of the level. I feel that locking actual gameplay ranks behind superfluous challenges is a really dick move.

I found the atmosphere and music terrible, many of the levels are very dark and ugly, and the sound design is horrible. I later found out jesper kyd wasn't hired again by io interactive for absolution and it really shows, the sound in this game is poor. Additionally, apparently, they weren't going to use David Bateson's voice until the last minute either. Shocking.

I do like the cinematics and story-telling in the game, and the idea of Victoria was a good one, I just found the story messy and poorly told, and anything with Diana or The Agency, very cringeworthy and uninteresting.

I hope I never have to play this game again. And fear Hitman 2016 is anywhere near as bad as Absolution.

Hitman Absolution... has some problems. There's no denying it's a good game, because it is. It's a very good game, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either mad, misguided or not a fan of stealth games. However, that's not to say it's the best game of the year, because it doesn't come close. While the previous instalments, particularly Hitman: Blood Money were magnificent, this gameHitman Absolution... has some problems. There's no denying it's a good game, because it is. It's a very good game, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either mad, misguided or not a fan of stealth games. However, that's not to say it's the best game of the year, because it doesn't come close. While the previous instalments, particularly Hitman: Blood Money were magnificent, this game does feel like many reboots before it. It feels like this in that it takes a number of the systems of the previous games, adds its own ones and then jumbles them all together. And jumbled it does become.

This game was directed by Tore Blystad, who served as Art Director on Hitman: Blood Money, and it takes the franchise in a different direction. The previous games were very non-linear, and there wasn't a story it was forced to follow. The result of this, of course, were the massive sandbox levels and exotic locales, as well as a huge variety of different targets and characters. In this game, Agent 47 has gone rogue after assassinating Diana Burnwood (his handler from the previous games) and taking the young Victoria, to protect her from the ICA. Meanwhile, Benjamin Travis, the head of the ICA, wants to get it back. He'll go about this with Blake Dexter, arms manufacturer and all-round psychopath. And so Agent 47 is thrust into the world, this time to escape the coppers and save Victoria from the ICA.

I must praise the game for the story, because it's brilliant. Because of this, the characters are all well-developed, and have some strong voice acting from Hollywoodians like Keith Carradine and Powers Boothe, among others. There are people with clout involved in this game. However, the way they've one about bringing the new story focus to fruition isn't exactly exceptional. The level design, and pacing, suffer the worst here. Because 47's supposed to be running from the cops for a murder he didn't commit within the story, he's got to run from the cops in the game. Which means that, for the first act, which can take anywhere between two and eight hours depending on how you play, can be spend wandering through rather bleak locales escaping the Chicago PD. The fact that it's story focussed also means that you have to make your way through the level in a way that is logical in the context of the story.

In previous games, the real system was "make your way from point A to point B any way you wish, then return to point A/C". In this game, however, the levels are chopped up to make sense within the confines of the story. Which means that, far from the amazing sandbox levels of the previous games, you're following a predetermined path that always ends in the same location. There's never any deviation from the predetermined path, because the story demands that you go a particular way to a particular point. It's also very cutscene heavy which, while not a bad thing in and of itself, can certainly put a few people off.

Because the story is set about in a particular way, you've no longer got the pre-mission loadout screens, or the post-mission newspaper articles, that you see in Blood Money. Which means no weapon customisation, and no weapon selection. This gets to abysmal levels as, apart from the first and second levels, you're not given access to Silverballers until the beginning of Act Two. About two to eight hours into the game. Then, there's a bunch of other mechanics that really prohibit the way you're gonna go about playing the game. This is where the review devolves into a rant, children, so cover your eyes.

Instinct. One word, a thousand problems. Instinct is a new function included in the game, and the game is built around it, which serves a variety of purposes. It introduces Point Shooting, a function a'la Splinter Cell: Conviction's bullet time-esque system. It's a slow motion system that allows you to target people and then shoot them in quick succession, very accurately. Then, there's a system that allows you to follow guard paths and see the guards. I'm one of the few people who wasn't incredibly annoyed with these systems. I kind of liked them. However, Instinct's integration with Disguises isn't so good. Basically, if you walk past a guard, you need to activate instinct otherwise you'll be spotted. However, because Instinct comes in painfully short supply anywhere above normal, and you need to be super stealthy anyway, there's no incentive for a hardcore Hitman player to go above Normal, because that mode doesn't work with the new Instinct function introduced. Instinct, above Normal (and sometimes in it) makes it almost entirely impossible to play the game like a Hitman game. Hitman's about exploration and finding multiple solutions to the problem. Without that, it's just a normal stealth game.

To say this game's bad would be a lie. It's very, VERY good. However, it isn't great, that's plain to anyone, Hitman fan or not. But the acting's good and the story's exceptional, so if you're new, you'll probably love it.

I really liked SOME of the missions. However I was a bit disappointed with how absurdly many guards there were in like ALL locations ALL the time. I would have appreciated some calm missions where more focus was put on actually planning the hit instead of trying to avoid guards. Most locations are gorgeous, and I guess the replay value is OK. I'll give it a 7 for now.

The crowds are detailed, the lighting is great and when you hit someone with a glass, you see the glass explode into the head, and the tiny cuts and the big wounds and blood spattered across their face. Many people complain about how 47 now has feelings, and the story is more personal than others. Well they haven't played Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, as that game revolved around saving a priest you care about. So gameplay, gameplay is how you want. Stealthy, rambo (Though if you do rambo, then please stop, its a stealth game -_-) Stealth is more rewarding when you send down a target, making it look like a accident and walking away in your awesome new threads. The game is also broken down. Levels are broke up into sections, and instinct mode is here. Instinct is like wall hack, it can be turned off in the options like I did. I'm giving this a 8/10, for fun gameplay and reminding us we dont need full machine gun awesome robot murder destruction, for a fun game. Expand

However if you find these additions making the game to easy then you can turn them off to play like the originals. Although this game has been executed well, the disguise system is flawed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In the aftermath of Hitman: Blood Money, Diana Burnwood, Agent 47's handler with the International Contract Agency, suddenly goes rogue, carrying out a catastrophic sabotage that includes publicly exposing the Agency. The Agency reforms under agent Benjamin Travis; Travis contracts a kill order on Diana, assigning 47 to make the hit and bring Victoria, a teenage girl in her care, to the Agency. Shooting and wounding Diana in her home, 47 hesitates before killing her, and she asks 47 to take a letter she wrote and keep Victoria from the Agency.
So Agent 47 is to assassinate any target that could harm Victoria and at the same time stay undervocer from the agency.
Along the way, you get introduced to the most ridicoulous personalities and that with slapdash performances.

6.5/10

Beautiful environments and lightning effects really impressess at times, the cutscenes are also well executed with terrific camera work. The downside though is that most of the voice cast is terrible, the only acceptable one i Agent 47.

8/10

Where the other Hitman games have always shined is the gameplay mechanics, Absolution is no exception. Solid controls with an environment that lets you take on any mission your own way is really something different from what we have come to expect out of Absolution, though it might be the greatest thing about it. The stealth mechanic is one of the best out there since the first Hitman game, too bad the enemies can be unbelievably stupid at times.

10/10

A long campaign with enough variety and different ways to complete missions will have you hooked for a long time, and with a new mode called "Contracts" where players can create their own contracts with different goals is really engaging.

A shame to the spirit of the series. Hitman Absolution betrayed everything. You do not longer try to kill a specific target, you are forced to run away from police in corridors and have no freedom. Storyline went wrong too, and has become too "americanized" in the wrong way.

Well were do i start.., Hitman, a series with an epic pedigree, games that just seemed to have got better with every incarnation, until now. This evolution of the series should 've been it finest hour but unfortunately didn't turn out to be the case.

    Lets break it down:

    Graphics:-
For the series, the best so far by miles, very affective lighting, solid character models really quite good physics and generally a pleasant place to spend time.

    Sound:-
From the streets of Chinatown to the bodies riddled clubs/bars, even the (and i use the word lightly) "open" spaces echo and hum quite nicely with ambient noises. The Plot:-
Is to say the least, very thin on the ground, i mean it feels like they decided to try a reboot rather than a new incarnation of what was a well established and quite popular franchise.

    The game play:-
"Cough"..., I'm not saying it's all bad, as a matter of fact some of the sequences/locations do give you that old hitman feeling, a little exploration, a little observation then "whack/pop/bang/boom" or what ever your preferred (noise) means of assassination is but generally, most of the, take your time and plan the perfect "silent assassin" kill, leave the level undetected and even read about it in the paper. Seems to have been left in the mortuary at the end of "Blood Money". It sadly seems to have gone like most games of recent years, as in appeal to a wider audience "ala" Resident Evil, Dead Space Mass Effect, to name a few aiming, for a slice of the Call of Duty pie. The game's multiplayer component isn't bad, i get the impression this was developed for the previous vision in the older games, large open areas to play and explore, decide who your victim(s) is/are going to be, figure out the best or just most satisfying way to eradicate them. However this is a bit of a missed opportunity souly due to the limited playing area in each of the small sections of checkpoint based level design.

Like most recent update a missed opportunity to hammer home a the fact that this is a series that should be here for many iterationsto come.

Very fun, I'm not one for sneaking around games, so most of the time in this game I shot it out with them. Sometimes you have to sneak, but the levels and enviroment provide multiple avenues for this...

Very solid game, and for a linear story based epic, it was fairly long, did not feel short in the least!!!

Visually, I think its awesome, stunning graphics, awesome rag-doll effect of the enemies dying when shot. So with that being said, I give this game a 6/10

Expand

This is the best game ever. I am a big fan of the stealth genre. I don't like mindless shooting games which just keeps spawning bad guys, with monotony being the only challenge. Story:The story is great the best I have ever played in a hitman game and it is also very different from the previous games because is not about contracts but it is about revenge. It took me 18 hours to finish it with stealth.

Graphics:The graphics in this game are very good and I really liked them.

Notes:The online part of this game is great it lets you to create your own contract and other people can play your mission and you can play their missions and so on.The game is great and I recommend everyone to buy it even at full price.

This is certainly a really good game in general, but a bit different as a Hitman game. My only two problems is the flawed disguise system and well, uhh... How you lose points for killing people? Yeah, besides from those two cons, this game does everything else right! Since I can't give a 8.5, I,ll just give it a 8!

This game is very fun. And the gameplay is really fantastic. One of the greatest games in 2012, maybe the best. The graphics is great. I didn't care much for the story, but it's ok. I played through this game on one day, and started on my second playtrough straight afterward beacuse it was so fun.

This is the best Hitman game ever made, this is an unique franchise, with an unique gameplay, lots of ways to kill the target(s) make it look like an accident, disguises, poison, cut the throat.... so many ways to kill......... or just shoot everybody) . Love this game.

pretty fun hit man game with a gritty violent feel to the game that sort of feels as if Quentin Tarantino directed the awesome violence to bad the narrative is a tad uneven.

An incredibly cool experience. The Hitman series does not really appeal to me, but with this part I have had a lot of fun hours. Fun levels with many options to reach your goal.

The fact that there was a storyline in it (instead of individual levels) made it very strong. Precisely because the levels are somewhat smaller than the levels of the newer Hitman games, it remains clear and fun

Bem divertido, história legal! Bastante tiro, stealth... Nada muito absurdo, digno de melhor jogo, mas é ótimo. Infelizmente não me lembro como eram os anteriores para fazer um comparativo, mas é uma série muito massa.

With Absolution being my 2nd game in the franchise, i'm amazed that it gave me a better experience than Hitman 2016. I'd give this game a 8.5 but i can't so im giving a 9. This game is more focused on story and it's driven well. Gameplay either lacked some aspects or had some features that 2016 game haven't. Interesting characters, good pacing, plot twists, a great story for a stealth game.

Hitman: Absolution proves to be another notable entry in the series. It may house a ho-hum plot, and you'll hate just about every character you come across, but the open nature of the approach is good enough that you'll overlook those blemishes.

When playing to its strengths, Hitman: Absolution is a genuinely great game. Overall, though, it feels slightly disappointing, simply because it doesn't spend enough time playing to those strengths.

It's easy to recommend Hitman Absolution, a game that provides chills and emotion although lacks the charisma and polish that you expect from this kind of production.
