Sure, the map is big and there is plenty of activities to do, but those activities are feeling like a mini games lacking polish (to be honest, most of them are just dumb or boring). Driving is far from excellent, and if you wish to drive cars on your PS3 there are a lot of better games at that. Shooting is awful! RDR had it way smarter. The game has no atmosphere. Its all colorful, driving/killing for fun game. No regrets, no remorse, no responsibility, no consequences. The game is 18+ but it doesn't deliver the content for the mature player (except for bad rape or dog fingering jokes and some nudity). The gaming season is starting and I suggest everybody to choose something other than GTA V. Expand

Good, but not the best Grand Theft Auto, the gameplay sucks, driving a car is a mess and fly a plane, is worst. But let's see the bright side, GTA V has an awesome storyline and a decent variety.

Never got into the series, hated Gta 4, couldn't get into it at all... But I can't put 5 down. Congratulations Rockstar! Definitely sitting on the top of the chain for GOTY. Sales figures talk kiddies. And lol at all the worried tlou fanboys who keep mentioning tlou because deep down they know gta 5 is top dog now. Rockstar I can't wait for the multiplayer. 10/10 GOTY

Great game! Cool physics, interesting story and characters. Car's physics is easier than in GTA 4, but driving is very funny. You always have something to activities. Control is simple when you are driving or walking, but hard when you are shooting. Best of series.

I grew up with Grand Theft Auto. Yeah, I know GTA was never meant for kids, but hey, couldn't resist playing. I was so excited to finally get to play this game after that delay in April and the wait was worth it. As much as I love EVERY GTA, this game has come with some things I just don't like, but there are a lot of things I do like.

Things I don't like so much:
    - No crouch.
    - Driving feels more sensitive and harder than GTA IV.
    - Car spawning, what I mean by this is that you always see the same car. Now I know that this is a memory problem and these outdated consoles just can't handle it. I hope the next-gen/PC versions will do better than this.
    - Quite some bugs and glitches.

Things I like (There are so many things I like, I think I would be going on for a couple of days):
    - Huge and I mean seriously HUGE map.
    - A beautiful interactive world, that responds to what you do.
    - 3 fun and very different main characters (However I do prefer one protagonist, but this was pretty good too).
    - All the different minigames.
    - Immersion. This game does so well to draw you in and just says do whatever you want to do.
    - Finally the REAL cheat codes are back and in action.

Maybe it's not my favourite GTA of all time, but it's also not my least favourite, that one goes to GTA IV.
All in all it's a fantastic game, however I cannot give this game a 10, because of it's issues. I wish I could've given this game a 9.5. Is it GOTY worthy? Definitely. It is the best game I've played so far in 2013 and it will probably stay that way.

GTA V is about 3 protagonists, Michael De Santa, retired bank robber and family man, Franklin Clinton, Los Santos native and gang banger who wants out of small time, and Trevor Phillips, a phyco drug dealer and Michael's former partner in crime. Each character has their own skill set and special ability. Michael can slow down time while using a weapon and has a higher shooting skill. Franklin can slow down time while driving and has a higher driving skill. Trevor can take half damage and give double damage while in combat as well as having a higher flying skill. All of these skills can be increased by use or lessons. Missions can be started by one character and be played with another, and can be switched between. Los Santos is a very large city that is filled with very colorful npcs and random events. It also takes up about one third of map. The rest of the map is either small towns or wilderness filled with animals. These animals can be hunted by Trevor and pictures of them can be sent to a friend of his after a stranger mission. Other stranger missions can unlock other side missions and activities. The world of San Andreas is the largest map Rockstar has ever made. Many types of vehicles can be driven, including boats, cars, helicopters, and planes (finally!). There are many fun things to do and see in GTA V, including one time when switching to Trevor, he was riding a scooter shouting "SCOOTER BROTHER" at another scooter motorist. Some pop in is a small sacrifice for such an amazing game. Expand

The mission/history: Well, when you buy the game you have a lot of patience to see the histories going through you watch it, and its alright. But the histories are too loutish, it lasts a lot to say nothing. And, compared to the other ones, GTA's, the missions aren't so funny to do.
The Map: The map is simply HUGE, and it's a little bit boring when you are going to do the mission, because it's delays a lot to arrive at the target. AND on GTA IV we had a lot of taxis going by through the city, but on GTA V, when we need the taxi we don't have, compared to the GTA IV, there are only 60% of the taxis that had on the other game.
The driving: It's awesome. Now you can run with it and its don't shake as the GTA IV
The graphic: It's also amazing the streets are really real, with a lot of details
And to finish, making a review. The songs of the radio are known and cool. But that are other things in the game there you can't understand why it doesn't happen/exist.

A massive map with large sections largely for show, doors which might as well be walls and generally off the linear path is a deserted one. I'm thinking this is like when sonic the hedgehog first came out on the MegaDrive. Us Master system owners got a version, lacking in speed content and just everything. I think the better version of this game is in it's future release. Running a console version on the PS3 and 360 with the limitations they have done the best they can. the game is stunning to look at and despite dodgy collision controls, long periods of driving to here and there there is some value, I'm just not sure I've fully found this yet. compared to what Skyrim achieved on the 360 (the PS3 not so much) this is still a question mark to me...... The one where you're reaching the end of the game but you don't want it to end. Red Dead Redemption did this. Far Cry 3 did this. And now GTA 5.

The people complaining about graphics are PC-Fanboys who are upset that they don't have it on PC. They were either forced to buy it on their console, or saw it up a friends house. The graphics are great and one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. A much bigger step from GTA 4 so there's nothing to complain about there, but since when did graphics was all that mattered in a video game? You can't just look at a game and because it would look a little better on a high-end PC go and give that game a 0.

Also, some people who give this game a zero literally have merely experienced an hour of it at a friends house or observed them playing it. A lot of the people who give this game a 0, give other high-quality games a 0 too. Look at their profiles. These people are trolls.

Never have I played a game of this scope and detail. Never have I played a game this addicting. If I could, I'd give it an 11 out of 10.

And to anyone who'd rate this game lower than a 5? Is simply drinking their own haterade go back under the bridge, troll nobody is going to listen to your smear campaign.

I keep asking myself the same question a lot of gamers are asking right now. Do I consider GTAV the best video game ever made? That right away speaks so much about this title. Truthfully, It's hard for me to say. That being said, I don't think I, or anyone else, has any business rating this game until they've finished it, it's THAT big. Theirs THAT much to do.

But, it's also such a well made game, that I needed to get on here and give it my opinion especially when seeing 132 negative trolls.

Witty humorous dialog, a blast to play, enthralling storylines that twist and turn, excellent graphics, and a huge amount of of things to spend your money on, makes for an incredibly addictive, if not memorable, experience.

By far, the heists are my favorite part of the game. When that music starts up? (Again, go watch Heat. You'll see what I mean!)

The only thing that encourages me more about this game is the door being left wide open for future DLC. I hope they add as much as they added with GTA IV, if not more.

Listen, to me? A 9 is a masterpiece. 10? That'd be the best game ever made.

My honest to god feeling is somewhere between 9 and 10. I do want to dock a half or quarter point, simply due to the PS3 literally being pushed to it's limit to run this game at a playable level. Make no doubt, it IS playable extremely playable but as someone who maintains a legit gaming PC? I expect sustained frame rates of 45 or better. Thats simply not possible on the PS3 with this game its too much (I'd be scared to see how the 360 is coping!) Nonetheless Frame rates of mid 20's to mid 30's? That's perfectly playable. You may not even notice if you aren't a big PC gamer.

Is it the most enjoyable game I've ever played? Wow... Yeah, I think so. Honest to god I think it is. Does that make it the best game I've ver played? Well... if it ran a tad smoother? Maybe... Still the fact that so many of us are even having this conversation is incredible praise, considering I've been gaming since 2600 and C64.

That's all irrelevant I'm giving it a 10 anyway; not just because it deserves a 10, but because at its LOWEST, it deserves a 9 but thanks to all the butt hurt crybaby's with sand in their vj's, with the gall to rate this title any lower than 5? Then I'm going to do my part, as a life long gamer, to balance it out.

Literally; some of you need to take off your grandma's panties whats the point actively working a smear campaign? Has the press not spoken with overwhelming praise? Did you not think most of us already knew how well made it was? Or, we're you just offended somehow. By a video game. In the world of fantasy. Lol jesus, good luck in the real world; I'm sure your pastor is proud of you.

Folks The developers spent $137,000,000 on making this game. This aint no racing game its not a yearly football roster they dont need to pay licsences for car logos or player associations.

That went into the game your playing.

    And wow.... does it show.

Excellent job Rockstar you did not disappoint. Considering how high my, nay, OUR expectations were? I think the crown of gaming belongs to you.... Again.

    My only caveat:

I just want to say This is not a game for children you'd be surprised how many irresponsible guardians will buy this for a 11 year old.

Parents? You know those stories you hear on the news when some mom or dad does something incredibly irresponsible; and then all the other parents who are watching, shake their heads in disapproval and mutter "no wonder that kid's so messed up"? Buying this game for a child? This would be one of those mistakes. Only you know where your kid is at on the maturity scale but buying this for a 13 year old? It aint the same as buying it for a 17 year old. Frankly, I'm not even sure some 20 year olds are mature enough for this game. That being said if you're messed up in the head enough to blame your twisted outlook on humanity on a video game? Then you're already lost. If there was no such thing as violent games? It'd be Catcher in the Rye or Joadie Foster messed up people are messed up. That doesn't mean you can discount the desensitizing effect this game can have on a young mind. This game is rated M. It earns it more so than any other game I've ever played.

Motorcycles act like motorcycles now and can make pretty incredible turns and maneuvers. The addition of planes increases the wide variety of vehicles and machines to operate, much more than in GTA IV.
The character animation also has been improved. There are now facial expressions and animation body parts (over-exaggeration). Even AI characters on the street look good.
The world is also much bigger. When I say bigger, that is an understatement. The world is ungodly huge. Being bigger than San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption, and GTA IV combined, no wonder this game received a 95 or higher from almost every reviewer. That being said, this game is one of the greatest ever made. If you don't like brutal murder and swear words every other word, then buy this game because it's so much more. If you do like those things, you should already own this game.

Here's the main issue, this game is not fun... People can sit there emotionless and list all the "features" of the game but it can have it all it wants, it doesn't make the things your listing fun to do. The driving physics have been completely destroyed. You could be drving a SUV or a Ferrari, it doesn't make a difference at all. All the cars go extremely fast, and you don't even ever need to brake to go around a turn. Just let go of the gas and turn. Every vehicle is the same cartoonish ride. Its as if they've taken every single feature of previous games, ruined them, and then put them into the game. The unarmed combat system is destroyed. Shooting is the same as ever. I mean dear god... I thought GTA 4 was going to be my least favorite GTA game ever but... no sir. GTA 5 is a pointless shell of a game. The easiest way I can break this down for somebody who is looking at these reviews for the purpose of being actually concerned about the quality of the game, I can say this with 100% full confidence: Red Dead Redemption is a better game. Sleeping Dogs was better. and GTA 4 was better in my opinion as well. The only good thing about this game is the story is quite different for a while then previous GTA games, but quickly devolves into the same old stuff. This is really quite dissapointing for me as I can't really think of any other game company I like more than R*. They've made quite a few of my favorite games of all time. They just dropped the ball on this one to please the masses i guess. I really do not like this game... Its boring.

Now, when GTA online comes out that might be a little more "interesting" considering the way the game is designed. It seems like they may have sort of neglected the single player in a lot of areas in order to focus on the online element.

The 3 characters Trevor especially was WAY beyond over the top and just stupid and irritating. The Soundtrack don't even get me started talk about pure GARBAGE worse soundtrack yet. Trevor kills of Jonny from The Lost expansion in the first 20 seconds of first seeing Trevor that's some BS Jonny would trash him. The Heist were a HUGE let down there is all of what 4 MAYBE 5 that you get to plan and that's IT?! The mission are fun and the game is beautiful and fun but NOT even remotely worth game of the year I don't care about sale those mean nothing other then people buying into mass hype. Bioshock Infinite and Splinter cell blacklist are FAR more fun in my opinion and id get them over GTA 5. I will say that online hant been release YET BUT if it is ANYTHING like GTA 4 online it will just morph into a damn mass kill fest and get incrediably old very fast. To me this felt like a glorified GTA 4 with a GARBAGE sound track bad driving physicis and glitchy garages (car saves) and 3 main characters that I couldn't ever follow or ever connect with because I couldn't even lable them as anti-heros or protagonists that are all just complete scum.

These are just MY OPINIONS don't get all butt hurt and offended because I DIDN'T like the "best game of 2013"

Running around in the wilderness makes me wonder how awesome this game would be as a dayz type game. There are so many good things that I'm just going to tell you what is "wrong" even though most of the problems are console limitations. Load time. Die during a mission? Expect around 10+ seconds of load time before you get another go. Load time gets annoying on tough missions. If you run and jump into a wall it knocks your dude out for like 5 seconds. It was funny the first 20 times, but got old when I'm trying to run from the police. The iFruit app used for training the dog is currently only available on iPhone. From an app developers perspective this is bad juju. A good app developer could convert that entire thing in just hours, yet they released the game without the Android app; this really...really bothers me and it should bother everyone else as well. They only explanation I can think of is how they are blatantly bashing Android devices within the game on radio advertisements. I had a laugh at the ads, they are clever, but come on let us train our pooch. The map is annoying as well. I'm about 8 hours in and have no idea what the map markers mean or who they are for. I go to each map marker with each character until I find the right character because it puts the marker on every characters map for some strange reason. Vehicle handling? Annoying at first, lovely after the first few hours of gameplay. The police? I would like a witness type system. If I kill everyone then police shouldn't know what I look like, it makes no sense. Why can't I mask up, kill some dudes, then take the mask off or just change my getaway vehicle to get off the police radar unless they spotted the vehicle tradeoff? They are making great progress in how the police "track" you, but the whole star system is still weak. I can shoot the rotors of a helicopter and it still will not go down. I love the addition of the stock market, made me rich so fast by just diversifying shares and selling at the smallest margin of profit, same as real life, just with less news as to what the company is doing....lol. I started a savings fund to buy a Tesla because of this games Coil, which is awesome. Basically this game helped save the planet a little See I cannot even stay on the negatives...the game just has too many positives about it for me to focus on the negatives. Final thought here is that the game wasn't ready. Online wasn't ready, the store wasn't ready, the police AI wasn't ready, the Android and Windows app wasn't ready....Big stuff there, enough to make me give it a 9/10. Believe me though, this game is worth quadruple what you pay for it. It's the price of watching 6 movies in theater. Do you remember the last 6 or 7 movies you saw? Me neither, but I'll remember GTA 5 just the same as GTA 4 and before. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am at about 60% through the game, or game completion. No clue what that translates into storywise. I have been completing side missions and story missions pretty much evenly paced. Let me just say this, I love this game, it is one of the best, ever.
But, there ARE some issues with it: First off, the graphics. They could be better, not on the PS3 or X360, then again my personal opinion is it should have been released for next gen, not current. The graphics are nice, don't get me wrong, but in this game the limitations of the hardware being used is the most apparent, ever.
Second off: The map is huge, Ill give it that, but it I had been led to believe that there was more to be done. I don't know what I feel is missing, but something is missing, there are loads of side quests, I agree, but after one, two or three they all drop to a single common denominator, and it becomes just a thing to do. Entirely skippable, which I guess side missions would be, but I desired a bit more oomph.
Third off: Controls; now for the most part the controls work, and work really well. But sometimes, and by sometimes it feels often since it is ALWAYS at the worst possible time it could happen, they up. Your character will spasm or do something you did NOT tell him to do, and then your dead. Not that dying really matters, 5grand and your good to go again, you'll even keep your weapons, but lose your car.
Fourth: Cars don't get properly saved, so I have wasted a good 100k bucks on fitting and refitting cars, just to have them disappear, apparently rockstar is on the bug and will have a fix for it soon.

Might seem overly critical, but in essence, these are minor things, at least for me, still felt they were worth mentioning. If you, like me, find that these things are minor, then get the game now. GTA V scores heavily on story, audio (VA included), gameplay (by and large, most control mechanics work really well, except for on foot and the ****ing choppers), size and scope, and also the idea of three protagonists. I have not at all regretted this purchase, and most others won't either. I will most likely get the game for PC aswell, when it comes out.

On the other hand Dan is quoted as saying that they are making the games easier to control to expand their audience. I've always been a huge gta fan because the games have been fun and infinitely replayable. GTA5 is not fun. GTA5 is not replayable. 1 star wanted level for swearing at someone. Arcade vehicle physics a gorilla could master in 10 minutes. Cars that fall apart by just driving over gutters. The l1 camera is atrocious. Why does it pop out 2 metres from the car when driving in car. Am I expected to aim with this garbage? The bullets always hit the roof of the car in front of you and not the driver. It's like zero thought was put into the gameplay quality of the game, and sacrifices were made simply to make it more cinematic. I don't care if I can see the characters in the car when looking backwards. If i'm looking backwards I want to see what's behind me, not the inside of the car. The missions are too controlling and often that results in mission failure for strange reasons. Some missions hold your hand every step of the way and tell you what to do, while others have little or no information besides "stand on the yellow dot". Anyone giving this game a 10/10 is delusional in the extreme, or is not very good at most modern games. GTA5 should have been released for $2.99 on a tablet, and not full price on a console. There should be two main settings in every game. One for the people who know absolutely nothing and are happy to press one button at a time (the current state of GTA5), and one for the hardcore crowd who want a fully functional sandbox to play around in. Great game as to be expected but they could have put more time in where the game needed it, rather than building a huge map, of which most of it you'll never see....

I've grown older and more mature from the PS2 era, but it's nice to have a variety of missions in regards to gameplay, and throughout the entire game it isn't just a handful of missions that are interesting, but overall majority of the missions are interesting and fun. The problem with GTA games main storyline is there are usually some long lows in which not much happens until the next big game. Obviously the heists are the big high point in this game, but there are plenty of missions for each characters that are fun and memorable. On top of that you have plenty of side activities which GTA 4 lacked.

Finally the three character progression and switching back and forth during missions is a bold idea that was executed really well. It's fun switching between characters during a mission in real time, and it really enhances the gameplay. In a sense it gives it more realism that it isn't one person handling everything as you worked together as a crew in a lot of missions. If you haven't played this yet, then get it. It's amazing!

Michael is too much of a loser as a dad and Trevor.. is a "usual" psycho and because of what he does to Johnny Klebitz i immediately hated him. I liked Franklin most among the three as he seems to be the only one that is not an idiot but he constantly whines about what he's doing and it sometimes gets annoying. It has some more weak points but none of them are serious enough to reduce the amount of fun you get. Try it, you won't regret. Expand

It tackles the issues our the era with hilarious and all-too-real accuracy. No one or group of people is outside the bounds of this game's reach. The gameplay itself is a cross between many games developed by Rockstar including Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption and of course previous GTA games. GTA V takes many of these games mechanics to develop a meta-game that feels natural to play.

The cars handle much better, and they've borrowed almost all of what really worked from RDR, making the problems I had from 4 a thing of the past. The world is absolutely massive, but an important thing to note is that none of it seems wasted. Buildings seemingly lack the cut and paste of previous iterations, creating an extremely immersive setting for a sandbox. The graphic qualities are great, only made even better by the detailed lighting. The sheen on a car or the blurring of light in the background are stellar and make everything feel true to life.
The story is an obvious. Rockstar pumps out another quality script, putting satire to good use. It did, however, feel strange and a little disturbing to have no outward motive to rob banks other than just wanting money. These guys aren't anti-heroes, they're just villains, albeit extremely likable. It plays with your perception of right and wrong.
There are a few nit picks I have, but they honestly can be overlooked for the most part.
THIS IS WHAT A GAME CAN BE WHEN DEVELOPERS ARE GIVEN PROPER TIME. I would say that this is proof that the annual release method is often detrimental and produces mediocre work.
In short, please play this. Not for brand recognition, but because this is just a good game.

The graphics are breathtaking, especially on a 7 year old system, you can tell Rockstar have really pushed it this time. Flying over the city at night with all the streetlights is something you'd want to get round doing. You can fly right up into the sky over the clouds and skydive off, but remember bring a parachute. The vehicles are incredibly detailed, the explosions are pretty awesome.

This is an open world game, which means you can go anywhere. I've never found myself walking anywhere because simply...the game is massive...you can steal cars (of course) helicopters, fighter jets, even an airliner, tanks and boats.

This is my first review, I made this account just so I can post about this game. It is a 10/10. Ignore the negative votes, they're jealous it's not out on PC. I only played GTA4 for a few hours, and got bored of it. But not with this game, I'm hooked. If you have an Xbox or PS3, i would get this game as soon as possible. $800million in 24 hours? Well deserved Rockstar... I also applaud you for delaying multiplayer release. There are always problems with multiplayer, this game would probably have lower reviews if it wasnt up to scratch.

Also, some of the vistas you can get are simply beautiful, especially involving water and sunlight.

The story is long, well written and full of varied and fun missions, you will never get bored of the same mission being repeated over and over again, a common trap of most open world games. The shooting feels great, cars drive much better now and the map of Los Santos is enormous, a huge dense city and a vast countryside full of huge mountains to drive up in sweet cars and enjoy the magnificent view from atop. There are tons of side missions, properties to buy, vebicles to drive and fly, activities and sports and races to partake in and collectibles to find. Heck even button cheats are back. This is a GTA game through and through. You can literally do anything and Rockstar have pulled out all the stocks, if you are giving this game below an 8/10 you simply have not played it, end of story. Grand Theft Auto 5 excels in so many different ways its beyond belief its almost impossible to praise everything in this game because of the sheer amount of content and possibilities, and is fully deserving of all the positive reviews and scores it has achieved thus far.

The story telling in this game is absolutely sublime, and everyone involved in the voice overs and acting has done an excellent job of portraying their characters in a way which other video games are unable to do.

Improved mechanics in this game has given us many games rolled into one, the driving is superb and at one point blasting through the hills in Vinewood, it felt like the Need for Speed game we always wanted, but without the awful forced drifting. The shooting mechanics for GTA as always are fantastic, and at last have made it more of a challenge to shoot with the buzzards in comparison to TBOGT.

There is a reason this game has becoming the fastest selling entertainment product to hit £1billion of all time, and its because quite frankly this is the greatest game ever created and puts the developers who rehash the same game every year such as Activision, to shame. Rockstar have taken their time and delivered on everything we wanted and then some, from owning pets in the game, to heists online and even rallying.

The added entity of GTA Online isnt even out yet, and already GTA 5 has received worldwide acclaim, lord only knows the kind of praise it will get on October 1st.

Overall, this game is a graphical masterpiece with everything we ever needed, from being able to hunt in the wilderness, to modding cars and having our NFS fun, to planning bank robberies and stealing fighter jets from the military, there really is very little left out when you fully play this game, and even after you think you've seen and done it all, the game throws something else at you.

My advice, ignore the negative reviews from those Call of Duty fan boys, they will all run off this game when Ghosts drops later in the year, and read the reviews of the overall gamers who play all games to a solid level. GTA 5 is a MUST play game, just like Skyrim was a few years ago, and LA Noire a few years before that, its a game which yet again has changed what we perceive as great, in this constantly evolving industry.

I saw a lot of people on here day 1 of the game's release bashing it when they didn't even have a good amount of play time put into the game. I have put 25 hours in to the game so far, and I still feel like there's so much more for me to see and do. From the get go, you can already see how much there is to explore. I was initially disappointed the city portion of the map was small in comparison to the rest of the map, but when you're in the game it feels like a large, full sized city. The game gives you a lot to do, as there are multiple side missions, random encounters with people getting robbed or having their bike get stolen, and it even lets you invest in the stock market. The biggest changes in this entry would be the shooting and driving mechanics. Everything has been tweaked and feels tighter and much more responsive. Vehicles don't swerve all over the road like in GTA IV, and the shooting is heavily borrowed from Rockstar's own Max Payne 3 which is a good thing. The stories for the three main characters are all really interesting. The characters themselves live very different lives, which helps make the missions more varied. That is perhaps one of the best improvements of the new game, is that the missions are now much more varied. Nearly every mission is different from the last, and it helps keep the game interesting. The biggest missions in the game are these elaborate heists, in which the player actually gets to choose between two options of how they want to go through a heist, and who they to go through heist with as their crew. These are the highlights of the game in terms of missions and they near always give the user some much needed cash as there is a lot to spend your money on in this game. For the first time in a GTA game, you can actually buy a vehicle legally, through the game's internet, and it will be delivered to your garage. Vehicle customization and character customization are both back from San Andreas. The car customization, while not very extensive as far as what you can do to the body, is fun and lets you have your own custom car, as well as letting you improve the vehicle's performance. The game is a lot of fun, and despite some texture glitches here and there and some frame-rate slow down, it is as near perfect of a game as a sandbox could ever hope to be. That's why I give it a 10/10 Expand

Stat building is pointless as all the characters start with high stats anyway. I towed heaps of cars and dropped off heaps of guns but there isn't a level process such as other GTAs and you get nothing special for it. Most properties are boring and missing their missions means nothing. Map is no where near as big as people made it out to be. Most of the north is just mountains with nothing interesting. The heists, which are awesome fun, are a one off with the reward. Only point replaying is to beat scores. The radio stations are horrible and repetitive.

    GOOD

Awesome collection of guns and cars with heaps of customization available. It's a good looking and sounding game as expected. Flight school and shooting ranges are back. Playing sport can be fun (building strength however would've made more sense going to a gym or boxing ring...). Underwater is amazing for the 1st half hour. The 3 main characters are funny and the switch between them is really well done. Special moves also make each character more unique. Main missions are fun and interesting and the hidden missions that I've found so far have been fun. Kifflom

Now that I have finished about 80% of the game it's just boring. Probably not going to touch it again until multi-player finally comes out.
Still it was fun while it lasted.

They really need to patch it and make it much more punchy. Expect power when I take the pedal to the metal. Other then that the framerate is terrible. I really hope they release it for next gen consoles. At first I didn't care for the story but it grew on me. They are pretty hilarious characters and the missions while repetitive (going from A to B and rinse and repeat) they are fun in their own way. I get the feeling the MP will be a blast so long as they have the right content for it. Just please fix the handling of the cars!! Expand

The graphics are a big step up from GTA IV and I'm still getting used to it. This game comes with many new features like weapon customization, checkpoints during missions, and character advantages( Trevor deals double-damage with guns, Michael can go into bullet-time in combat, much like Max Payne and Franklin can enter bullet-time while driving). This is one hell of a game and should not be missed. It's a great way to end the generation and I'll be anticipating for multiplayer. Expand

Ridiculously overhyped. Having played GTA IV, I had very high expectations for this game, especially given that Rockstar had 5-6 years to develop this game, it was disappointing. The driving does not feel any different although that is not entirely a complaint as there was nothing really wrong with it. The graphics and textures look subpar compared to other releases of this year and even last year. The game is good, I am not denying that, but I am just denying it all of it's overdone praise and hype. Not a huge step from GTA IV, not impressed. Expand

The world is jam packed with activities ranging from sports, street racing, submarine diving, rampages, strangers and freaks to meet, collectibles, random events, you name it. Even for the island's vast size it doesn't feel like any part is really wasted.

Without a doubt my new favorite entry in the series.

I've been putting off making a review until I beat the game. It took around 40 hours to beat the game and I had fun at every moment. From the heists to the Strangers and Freaks missions, there are over 100 missions and activities to keep you occupied for well over 40 hours. Most likely more once Online launches. There were few faults that I could find with the game. Still, the main fault I had was enough for me to deduct 1 point from the score. When you redo heists, you do not gain extra money. This makes an interesting concept(Being able to replay missions) fall short of being perfectly executed. It wouldn't be much of an issue if you could do generic bank robbery jobs but the only other cash you can get is a few thousand dollars from sticking up gas stations or robbing people; both of which are time consuming and tedious after a while.

The lack of generic bank jobs that you can execute whenever you feel like it makes the game fall a little short. Other than that, I have no complaints with the game.

As someone who lives in LA, this game is totally on point.

If you've never been here, there's a lot of details you might not get. One little example is the Italian restaurant right up the street from the pier, there's one in real life in that exact spot (Bruno's in RL, great food). There are hundreds of little things like that I've noticed already. Personally, I like the new driving

Personally, I like the new driving mechanics. I didn't like the feeling of driving a top heavy tug boat in GTA 4.

More cars, and more realistic looking. The music is great as usual. Graphics are amazing.

Story line is great thus far. Characters are interesting and believable.

If I had any beef, it would be that there is waaay to much cussing in the dialogue. I'm no prude, but my neighbors are probably thinking "wtf is going on in there?" A couple graphics glitches, but nothing serious. Being such a complex game, the controls are equally complex. Each button has multiple functions. Be prepared to fail a few missions till the controls become more second nature.

Anyone giving this game bellow an 8 is just a hater, and probably thinks every game sucks.

Grand Theft Auto was the originator with the sandbox type of video game and I’ve owned every single iteration at some point. (I bought the download for the PS3 18GB so it no longer fits on a single disc) The world is huge, the storyline is well written, acted and engaging, and the graphics are awesome. In most games there is a huge difference between the cut scenes and the gameplay but not here they flow seamlessly. There are a multitude of options for activities, and if you don’t want to be a criminal, you could probably spend hours hiking, boating and playing tennis.

If you are offended at psychopaths, murderous villains, prostitutes, corruption and a sarcastic view of modern America then this game (and many other games) is/are not for you. Likewise if you are morally and mentally unstable and a have trouble distinguishing between reality and imagination and want to become the next mad shooter please do not buy this game but check yourself in to the nearest mental clinic to get help.

If however you are a normal person and can laugh at yourself and everything else, finding the humor in the stupidity of mankind then you’ll probably enjoy this game immensely and if you’re a GTA fan you’ll experience a game that has matured into a masterpiece. I’ve noticed a few glitches here and there but I’m sure these will be fixed in upcoming patches.

If you’re new to GTA go to one of the game sites or look on YouTube at some gameplay videos before you purchase if it’s too violent for you there is always Flower.

I waited a few days with writing this, just because I wanted to play the game more before judging.
But after 3 days of gaming I can say this...
This is most definitely the swan song of this generation.

If they can make games like this on the PS3 then Gaming on the PS4 is going to be heaven.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really liked this game at first. However, the more I played it, the more I felt that I was caught up in the hype. Here are some of my problems with GTAV after playing for 3 days.

-The car handeling is better but still not as good as San Andreas.
-The guns don't feel as satisfying as those in IV.
-Unlikable protagonists and characters. (I have to admit I liked Michael at first but as the game progressed..)
-Eventhough the missions have improved, it's now heavily focused on cut-scenes, which makes for a boring second playthrough.
-Cops are annoying. Its such a major pain to get rid of 1 star wanted level.
-Game freezes which kills the immersiveness and lets you fear whether this is damaging your PS3
-I alsot feel that they did not do good with the remake of San Andreas city. Sections I love in GTA San Andreas was not acuratte in this game. Seriously.Take a look at Grove Street. Although, the graphics are nice, I'll give them that.
-There are also a few late texture/buiding pop ins. I ran into what I thought was an invisible wall but it took a few seconds for a fence there to load.
-Rockstar was disrespectfull with the potrayal of women
    -Disrespect for peoples religouiis beliefs.
-Repitition of racial slurs. GTA San Andreas was centered around being a gangster and the n-word here was thrown around more in one cut-scene than the entire game. It's not realistic and it becomes annoying.
-Not to mention their handeling of a previous protaginist-Johnny K.
-Using submarines and helicopters are not fun.It honestly feels broken.
    -Content taken away (DLC)

Do yourself a favour and get The Last of Us instead. It's way more fun and a masterpiece than GTA V. In the end this game gave me more respect for IV eventhough a lot of people find it the worst in the series. GTA episodes from Liberty City was a step in the right direction. This one was just insulting and boring. I don't even want to finish it and wait for the online anymore. I'm takeing this back to the game store first thing next morning. GAH SO DiSSAPOINTING

The best way to bid farewell to the retiring consoles is to spend dozens of hours having fun in Los Santos: robbing, abusing illegal substances, breaking all laws and enjoying everything else that GTA V has to offer. And after we finish the game, we should all say loudly: ‘okay, Rockstar girls and boys, it’s high time to make a truly new GTA, not just a gigantic DLC’. [12/2013, p.36]

Gigantic and stupidly detailed, GTA V is everything we hoped it would be. Individual components could be a touch better, but when a game does literally everything, nobody can expect perfection across the board. That it even comes close is incredible. [Issue#236, p.62]
