  • Summary: God Mode combines non-linear gameplay, fast and frantic shooting, hordes of on-screen enemies, and stunning visuals. The game hosts a single-player mode, as well as online and offline (via LAN) co-op play with 1-4 players. In addition to accessing more than 11 different weapons for battle, players are also equipped with a special ability fueled by Rage, which is gathered by amassing kills. Players can choose from several different powers ranging from offensive, to defensive, to support; all of which can be upgraded. A series of in-game modifiers known as Tests of Faith alter gameplay on the fly and ensure that matches rarely--if ever--play out the same way twice. Each character is fully customizable, both in appearance and equipment, which evolve throughout the game. Gold and experience are accrued by players in a reward system to unlock new weapons and unique, powerful abilities, both of which have the option for further upgrades.… Expand

    God Mode would not feel out of place in a traditional arcade, and I could see many people pumping quarters into a machine to play this game for hours.

    God Mode is a title in which you can find moments of fun and satisfaction, which unfortunately came with technical distraction and repetitiveness.

    Convince three friends to buy God Mode, because on your own it gets old real fast. Mainly because it does not offer you that much content. It all about shooting the same enemies in the face over and over again. [June 2013, p.91]

    Technical difficulties aside, what you should take away from this is an astonishingly entertaining first four hours that are well worth the ten bucks, especially if you plan to play this with some of your friends. Enjoy two good evenings of entertaining and don't bother with the later unlocks. Instead, grab the starting weapon, upgrade the hell out of it and beat every map a couple of times until you eventually find it a bit tiresome and turn towards something else.

    There are some neat ideas here, like the random modifiers that trigger in each area, and being able to turn on ‘oaths’ that increase the challenge while rewarding you with extra XP and coins. But these features aren’t original, and it’s hard for an unoriginal game to hold one’s interests after the 500th skeleton has had their head shot off. [July 2013, p79]

    I was very hesitant in purchasing this game, so I waited for some reviews but there just wasn't many. I now know why. Don't be fooled by the game description or the screenshots, this is awful. The sound stutters and is horrible when it doesn't. The graphics are sub-par and near late ps2 era. It may be decent for a group of friends on a lazy afternoon but it won't hold your interest long and the difficulty of the game is brutal from the very beginning. Single player is suicide. I just couldn't recommend this game to anyone other than blind masochists who have nothing else to do. Avoid this at all costs.… Expand

This game is certainly a bit of fun, but it is completely incapable of holding anyone's interest for an entire match, let alone an entire hour or even an entire playthrough. The graphics are sub-par at best, the shooting and the mechanics aren't up to spec and it is an exceptionally boring title. And the Borderlandian announcer should burn in "hell in a toga" forever.… Expand
