This game is far from bad. Its a brilliant game. In-fact there's not much at all to complain about except for the level variety. While its not crazy with massive machine guns and what not, it gives a variety of ghost catching weapons and customization for those who plan to make their simple proton gun into some sort of mad machine of mass destruction. Which comes in handy if you want to destroy every room, street, corridor, ground and street you set foot in. Which is bloody fun. All the places you go in the Ghostbusters universe, you'll understand why its not world when you play it, reward you for exploring and collecting. You then can access this information in the game, every ghost you collect, every thing you pick up and every place you go and scan can be recorded. The enemy type is varied and are always challenging while fun to face. Each enemy can be tackled in its own individual way. When you collect a enemy's data you can find out the best way to catch/destroy it. This is very fun and its clear the developers put a lot of effort in this aspect especially. By now your probably thinking, 'so whys this game not a 10!?' The puzzles in the game are sometimes way too dull. This is my only problem. Its so annoying. Multiplayer is also awesome. I mean, I quickly found out other players already had all the cool stuff to dominate me. So I used my wit. Instead of playing nice, I fired a proton dart in their stupid faces. Bang, dead, please revive. After I just do this... and... done. They scream down their microphones at me, "dude, revive me!" I laugh, I have no microphone. Pure class. There's lots of multiplayer modes including a horde mode. Best played with Co-op. My favorite thing to do though is just single player. This is one tank of a game. A must buy for everyone. Expand

A fun game overall, although gets a bit repetitive after finishing the career mode and just playing it on network with others. But trying to get all the trophies will keep me going for a while.

This is hands-down the best Ghostbusters game in existence, and quite possibly one of the best film based game translations ever made.

It's not perfect, but the story is great and the hunting and trapping is very well done. If there was just a little more of that, I'd have given the game a 10. As it stands, it gets a 9 because, depsite its flaws, it's still a very fun game and the story is great.

All this would fall as flat as a pancake if the gameplay sucked though but thankfully this is also great fun to play. The controlls are well thought out, the weapons are imaginative and ther's enough surprises, scares, and epic set pieces to keep it fun through to the end. Ther's a few little irritations - the suddern deaths, linier level design and short time to complete (6-8 hrs). Nothing that's going to ruin your enjoyment too much mind but enough to stop this being a bona fide classic. This gets a hell of a lot more right then wrong though. In short this does justice to the original movies and is a cracking game in it's own right. What more do you want?! Expand

"Holy crap I'm playing the 3rd movie" was my 1st thought when playing this. It has some of the best writing in a video game in ages. Voice acting is spot on (apart from Alyssa Milano IMO). Gameplay is tight considering the weapons you have at your disposal. Can't comment on the online play as I haven't tryed it yet.

The team is great with all the original voices and the story is actually really well done. If you have watched any of the movies, you will point at the screen going 'hey, i remember that' many times before the game is done. All your favorites are back, Slimer, Stay Puft, the Librarian, and of course there is the dancing toaster. The controls were surprisingly good, the game handles pretty well. There are several different beams/slime you can shoot, which adds well needed variety, but you can pretty much beat the game with nothing but the normal stream. One thing i found odd is that the game tried to pull a Dead Space by putting the majority of your hub on your pack, overheat, health, cooling, its all there on the pack. This would have been fine if not for the fact that sometimes the screens aren't visible and are too small. Most the time i just cooled off after every ghost i captured. What is a really nice thing to see is the verity in enemies, from possessed object to the super natural ghosts, there is quite a large verity. I did find this game to repetitive, it even repeats a few levels. One really big shocker was just how good the multiplayer is. Instead of having people beat each other up, they help each other by capturing ghosts and the more you get the higher you level up. This is a nice breather after all the shooters such as Mw2 or Red Dead, but i don't like how the it is set up. The leveling up system is confusing, and the community for it is failing fast, so soon it will be another lost server. The final work i have for this game is that it is the perfect game for those who love the movies or just want a good si-fy thriller. Expand

well written, follows the storyline of the movies, however it was very short for a 50 dollar game, the multi-player is fun as well, however i believe there are much better titles out there for the same amount of money, but if you are a ghost busters fan it enhance the fun.

Let me start out by saying that I absolutely love the Ghostbusters films. As a kid, I owned virtually every Ghostbusters toy that was on the market. The proton pack, the ghost trap, the Ecto-1, figures of Bill Murray's portrayal as Peter Venkman, etc. Literally anything I could get my hands on. These toys were creative, inventive, functional on a level that it was a legitimate good time (as a 6 year old child) to play with.

The reason I bring this up is because I feel the video game is essentially the same thing, and achieves a lot of the same things those silly hunks of plastic did for me as a child. You get to actually take the role of a Ghostbuster. To join the "team." Now, Ghostbusters games had existed well before this one. With one notable exception being the fantastic Sega Genesis game, none of them were really quite up to snuff. The games often felt sloppy, bland, or uninspired in their design. Some were archaic. Others were boring. Most of them were, simply put, not very good. Ghostbusters: The Video Game, released for PS3, X360 and PC, is one of the other few notable exceptions.

I may be a bit biased in praising this game, considering I am a huge fan of this franchise, but Ghostbusters: The Video Game is easily the best Ghostbusters game ever made. It gets everything right. From translating the awesome technology from the films to a video game, to absolutely nailing the humor thanks to the script penned by both Aykroyd and Ramis, the men responsible for the original Ghostbusters films, this game achieves nearly everything it tries to do. It makes you feel like a Ghostbuster, and the atmosphere, gameplay mechanics, visual design; literally everything included in this game's design is here to make you feel like you're playing the nonexistent 3rd film installment to the series with astounding success.

The game is, effectively, a third-person shooter, with a slight twist. Instead of using modern military weaponry, you use Ghostbusters equipment. The most notable of these being the absolutely awesome proton pack. A large, cumbersome looking backpack made of metal and wires, that concentrates proton particles into a stream to neutralize ghosts with. In laymen's terms, it's a ray-gun you blast ghosts with. It handles wonderfully, with great visual effects. If you shoot a wall with this thing, you'll leave fiery, charred streaks across it, and it's all very believable.

Now, this believability wouldn't mean much if the game weren't fun to play. Most of it revolves precisely around blasting ghosts with said ray-gun. You shoot them long enough with it for them to get tired and dizzy, then you can actually grab onto the ghosts with your proton stream and slam them around any which way you can to make them even more tired. While they're in this confused mess of a state, that's when you want to throw your ghost trap out and wrangle these suckers straight into it. It's so. much. fun. The ghosts will try to escape your grasp as best they can, and that's where you'll have to really start wrangling them. It's quite a lot of fun, and feels exactly what you think a Ghostbusters game should feel like.

You also get different weapon upgrades for your proton pack, such as a blue streak of energy that effectively acts as a shotgun, with its secondary firing mode being a stasis stream with the ability to slow your enemies down to a crawl, sometimes freezing them. You also get a slime gun to play with, as well as being able to tether things to each other with the use of slime; think a long, nasty booger that's strong enough to move heavy objects around and you get the idea. All of these upgrades feel natural to the game's progression, and they're all implemented well.

The sound design here doesn't fare quite as well, though. The voice acting is spectacular, since the original cast from the movies appears in full reprise. These aren't knockoff Ghostbusters by any means. They're the realest deal you could possibly get. The music, however, is often far too repetitive, and sometimes very, very unfitting for the scene that's playing out.

Ghostbuster's story really is what you would imagine the 3rd film being. So much so that it's actually considered canon. It's legitimately funny, smart, entertaining, and as mentioned above, the voice work and cast are all outstanding. It's absolutely a well written love letter to Ghostbusters fans, myself included. It's everything us proton pack wielding, ghost trap throwing, PKE meter scanning kids would want in a video game.

All in all, Ghostbusters is a great game. For fans of the franchise, it's a mandatory must have. For everyone else, it's, at the very least, worth a rental, or a buy considering its cheap price tag today. It may not be the best game I've ever played, but it's the best Ghostbusters game I've played. Simply put, it's awesome, and I'd recommend it to anyone who ever loved this series. Just don't expect it to change video games forever or anything like th

This IS Ghostbusters the movie 3!! It nails everything about the ghostbusters franchise and carries the lore a lot further. The music is perfect, the voice actors ARE the Ghostbusters, the plot is like a mix of the movies and the cartoon. If you like ghostbusters even a little bit, get it, it's super cheap at this point.

As far as a game it's polished, 0 bugs, you develop through most of the game though the upgrades run out before the last 20% of the game. Even though they run out you still have to think through your fights and progress because each weapon does different things. You still have the main proton weapon for capturing and weakening ghosts, and you have to lasso them into the trap like the movie. It's done so well you feel like you are in the movie, it looks and feels exactly the same. There are tons of easter eggs through out HQ, and each item you find in the field goes back to the HQ for more interactibles.

Absolute blast, I rarely give a game a 10 but this is everything you want it to be.

Ghostbusters is the perfect example of how to treat a cherished license right. The game plays great, looks great, and really captures the essence of what makes the series so beloved.
  3. If this hadn't been a Ghostbusters game, then we would likely be praising it for its successes and sweeping its deficiencies under the rug. The fact of the matter, though, is that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a hugely anticipated game and unfortunately, it ultimately let us down.
