Fantastic game but a bad port. The game locks up after extended periods of play. After I've completed the main story and moved on to the dlc the game started to lock up very frequently and had bad frame rates. This is one of the best games I've ever played but sadly I can't recommend it to anyone on the ps3.

It is one of the best games of this generation, and perhaps one of the best ever. A believable and large world is helped by a large amount of content and stories that are amazingly written.

Despite many technical flaws, Fallout 3 is one of my favourite games, due to the great story, fun game-play and the vast amount of content in the game. If you already own the original, the Game of the Year Edition doesn't have much more to offer, except it includes all the downloadable content, however, this makes it very practical for anyone who doesn't own the normal edition.

The game offers a decent length of main quests (around 8 to 10 hours or so), with a good story in which the player can make many different choices to define the outcome of the ending cinematic, as well as the 5 expansions which are relatively short, but where the game really shines through is with the many side quests spread across a variety of locations from which the player can acquire many special items, perks and so on. There is also a lot of references to people, places and events in the Fallout Universe and pieces of the in depth back story scattered around the wasteland, as well as many hidden secrets such as humourous Easter eggs, unique items and Vault-tec Bobble-heads to collect.

I would highly recommend this if you are a fan of single player RPG games, such as the Elder Scrolls games, or a fan of the original Fallout games on PC.

Game play wise it's a really great game. It's however brought down by the fact that it has a ton of technical issues. The longer you continue your game for the more buggy the game becomes. Towards the end of the game for me it was pretty much 50/50 chance on every loading screen that the game would freeze the whole system.

Although it can't be understated that Fallout 3 is a fantastic game, this PS3 port is shoddy and you'll find it freezing on you at least every few hours. These freezes become more persistent the more you play the game, and most players will find their patience being tested. The Broken Steel and Point Lookout DLCs in particular are the worst - the game would constantly chug and drop frames as I explored Adams Air Force Base in Broken Steel or basically anywhere in the swampland of Point Lookout - but don't expect the rest of the game to be free of the game-crippling freezes either.

It's a real shame, because as much as I love Fallout 3 and as much as I don't want to admit it, it really does dampen the experience of an otherwise phenomenal game when it suddenly locks up on you, especially if you haven't saved in a while. If you don't mind a low framerate or restarting your PS3 every now and then (probably losing a bit of progress in the process), as well as the constant bugs (although these seem to be everywhere regardless of the console you're playing on), then this is definitely worth a play; it's just a real shame that Bethesda didn't respect the PlayStation 3's fanbase as much as the Xbox 360 or PC, which have both had extensive post-release support to patch these problems.

Aside from that, I must say I got over 100 hours out of the game, so if you can accept the bare-faced cheek of Bethesda essentially releasing a broken game, this game probably is worth your time. The five DLC packs present here definitely extend the life of an already lengthy game (although I have problems with the bullet-sponge enemies that Broken Steel introduces) and you'll definitely feel full of Fallout, if not satisfied, by the end.

I love fallout, so much so i bought the GOTY. The game has a good atmosphere, but the game is so full with glitches it is impossible to enjoy. I permanently lost my Fallout 3 file with 70 hours of data because of a glitch that thousands have come across. Terrible game, do not buy.

for what was a very creative and fun game series, fallout NV and 3 set an all time low. Sure, fallout 3 and NV pulled the series to 3d and open, and i admit it was kind of fun, but that fun was ruined by the major bugs, freezes, glitches and crashes i experienced on my copy. it happened on my PC,ps3 and 360 copies so its not my system. Its unplayable after 3 hours gameplay. its like it purposly freezes to tick you off! basicly its this, you really start to like it, then it freezes and you need to restart your system. Expand

You should always wait for the Game of the Year edition for Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. You get all DLCs and many bugs / issues are fixed. The world was stuck in the culture of the 1960 while the technology was far advanced (but from a style point outdated) when the nuclear war devastated the whole world. You explore the Wasteland around the capital of the USA. Exploration, interesting characters and dark humor are the strengths of the game. You never know what you encounter and there are many Easter eggs and references. You create your own charcter with stats and as you level up learn new abilities. You are limited in a way that you cant learn everything or be good at all tasks. While all skills have their usefulness some are far more useful than others. Persuasion helps a lot in this game (and in the expansions). The battle system is OK but compared to other games a bit clunky. There is the reason that the VATS system existed. Basically you stop time and aim at your enemies. When finished all will be executed but you must wait a certain time until you can reuse it. Some skills and higher stats improve this. I should mention that the stats and skills are well interconnected. The main story is a good vessel and has some twist. There is of cause the staple that you have different factions and a Karma system. While there are some changes it has no mayor impact like in New Vegas or Fallout 4. The side stories / quests and characters are fantastic. You will be entertained. The soundtrack is OK especially the idea with the radio stations. The graphic while looking good is too monotonous for me. My complaints are the bugs in the game (also a staple for Fallout and Elder Scrolls) and the lackluster ending. They fixed this in an add on because of mayor complaints For the ending I will subtract a point. I would give this at its time a 9/10 but would give less now because Fallout New Vegas improved the formula tremendous. Overall a really good start for this remodeled IP. End of summarize. They fixed many of the bugs and the horrible ending which improves the game a lot. DLC: Broken Steel is the final act of the main game and adds a lot to the game including a higher level cap, a breathtaking battles and new enemies / equipment. Operation Anchorage throws you in the final battle to retake Alaska. Be careful you cant exit this until finish it and a speech value of 100 helps at the end. The Pitt takes you to Pittsburgh and has some interesting moral choices. Also you cant leave until you finish it. Point Lookout takes you to an Isle that was a formerly amusement park. Finally there is Mothership Zeta. Lets say you find a strange radio signal and got thrown into entertaining Fallout madness;-). Overall this is the definitive version for Fallout 3 and you should not even bother with only the main game. I give 9/10 but will note that Fallout New Vegas is the superior game and came it first Fallout 3 would be rated lower. Expand

Fun. That's what you get when you buy this game. I still hear people that buy it and say that it's great. The story is fantastic, incredibily detailed characters, game-changing events, remarkable locations, stunning landscape; the sound compartment is also awesome, the music through the game is perfectly blend in the atmosphere, and when you turn it off, you hear some nice ambient that help you familiarizing with what's around you. One of the "must have" gaming experiences and one of the best games of all times, and this version with al the expansions is really worth the extra money, every DLC is another experience to explore, making the base game even bigger; buy it right now if you never played it and have the opportunity!
