Nice gameplay (though flying mobs with shields at the beginning are annoying) a good plot, with the exception of the character Dante, a good DLS, although it is clear that there was no longer enough money for him. Overall a great game.

Ok ok, I know there are a lot of fans of the original Devil May Cry and they hated this game because the story is so different. BUT, this is a good game. DMC: devil may cry is an insult to the fans, the original makers, and to the name of the series it self, story wise that is, but gameplay is a sold dmc gameplay with some thrling combos and enjoyable mecanechs. bad story great gameplay and probably that what every one care about is the gameplay that's why I am rating it high.

2021 and I still refuse to think this is a Devil May Cry game.
Dante is awful, edgy and idiot.
    The story is lame.
And the gameplay... feels kinda weird, definetly not Devil May Cry.

Nah, this game isn't great. It isn't all bad like some will make it out to be, but the game really isn't worth a purchase in any sense.

The story and the writing are the worst offenders. They tried to make Dante more "human" or something for some reason, but all they really did was make him mopey and sulky which is NOT the Dante I know and love. The script is laughable, and the voice

The great combat is still here (somewhat), but the platforming is INCREDIBLY boring and the levels are useless from a gameplay standpoint. It's also can run as low as 15 fps during combat, so that's a huge turn off.

The game is 7 hours long, but replaying it is impossible given the terrible story and framerate. You probably should be fine missing this one, even as a die-hard DmC fan.

Appallingly mediocre in every aspect. Everything from the sophomoric storyline to the painfully repetitive button mashing combat is a disappointment. The atmosphere of fun that has characterized the Devil May Cry series is gone, replaced by the same grimgritty slosh that has completely destroyed modern FPS games. If you are a 12 year old boy who has just discovered video games and the

However Devil May Cry games have always stood in the perfect spot where it's very western for japanese players and also very japanese for western players.

The result was a disaster that tries to cling onto the past while at the same time trying to spit on it's legacy...?

The game offers some welcome and other unwelcome changes to the combat system, such as the addition of demon and angel weapons, allowing you to use simplified combos with the new system, and the unfortunate removal of lock-on.

The characters are all insufferable, such as Dino who takes the archetype of Nero and the moniker of Dante, posing as very rude and arrogant from the very start of the game to everyone, even the non-demons. Normally this wouldn't be an issue if the game took the necessary steps to show his development into becoming a more rational person, but that just doesn't happen. Even Kat who is supposed to be there to make him become a better character from narrative standpoint is not a good person.

    The chakrams are cool.

A pretty good game. Combat and levels are interesting and varied. The best platforming in the DMC series. Story is mixed which lets the game down severely.

DmC Devil May Cry reinterprets the lore and characters of the original saga with a gritty take in a more modern, urban setting giving the game a stylish personality, although the overly edgy tone can sometimes lead to painfully corny moments. Nonetheless, the deeper characterization of its cast and the dramatic weight of the story makes up a narrative that is ultimately much more engaging than any of the ones in the four original games. Combat offers a set of extremely diversified weapons, allowing for many different strategies developed through combos that feel extremely fast and satisfying thanks to most weapons being available at once, reaching the best combat fluidity in the entire series yet. Fights are made even more fun via enemy types, as their weaknesses and resistances pleasantly challenge the player's quick thinking and adaptability. Sadly, only fights against common enemies offer some real engagement, as Boss fights are few and extremely lackluster, with ridiculously repetitive and simple attack patterns, and the Style Ranking system was also dramatically dumbed down rewarding easy spam rather than strategic play. Level Design challenges the player with a greater emphasis platforming, navigating the environment through jumps, dashes and precise timing, but rarely enough to be truly engaging or exciting, instead merely providing a decent change of pace.

If nothing else, DmC is sure to entertain with many hours of button hammering, fizzing combat. However, the experience as whole has hugely benefitted from a reboot and those who are familiar with the series will appreciate the new features and relish the opportunity relive Dante’s origin story. DmC, as a combat driven action title has held together the soul of the franchise, while enhancing all in-game features to create a unique experience for everyone.

Ninja Theory deserves credit for not only delivering smooth combat and telling an entertaining story, but also for crafting detailed character models without lip-synch errors, who show real emotion and wear clothing that moves along with them. This is what a 2013-game should look like. [February 2013, p.72]

Ninja Theory are calling the DMC shots now and they're doing it well. The fighting mechanics are a little bit easier to master and perhaps not as deep as before, but on the other hand the storytelling is improved with skillfully crafted cutscenes. Put up with a rather dull introduction and you're in for a great game.
