Whether you are on land, sea, or the white sands of Davy Jones Locker, there isn’t a more swashbuckling time to be had and Jack Sparrow is the quintessential pirate hero.
-
A fascinating romp through a section of Disney history that everyone young and old can enjoy. For a movie-game, Pirates delivers the way that some non movie-games should always be delivering, especially on our next-gen consoles.
-
The biggest issue with the value of this game is that the overall gameplay is not as inspiring as the visuals or the sound
-
I'd even go out on a limb that it's probably one of the best movie to game renditions I've ever played (although that's not saying a whole lot), and it would be perfect for the youngsters.
-
There were a few moments where I felt like Pirates could actually spark my interest, but I left bored in the long run. There’s a decent amount of fun that can be had with this game, but you’ve got to be in the right mindset. Much like the movies, At World’s End is at best a popcorn game.
-
The characters and scenery look absolutely gorgeous, and the speaking is surprisingly good. Sadly, the developers seem to have aimed at the younger crowd and the non-gaming crowd, as there's really no challenge other than overcompensating for the occasionally stupid AI.
-
There’s a ton of wasted potential here, but by the standards of the movie game the third Pirates game doesn’t fare too badly.
-
Ultimately, between the short campaign and the rather bland combat, Pirates doesn’t do a lot to separate itself from the heap of other action games just like it.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKFor a game that should be stacked to the crow's nest with exhilarating swordfights, having such a weak versus mode is an insult. [Aug 2007, p.104]
-
Simple? Yes. Fun? Well, only if repetition is your thing. But while the various controllable pirates (Capt. Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and so on) are mostly identical, at least character-unique, trigger-based sword fatalities offer something different.
-
At World's End isn't a bad game, but its dull, repetitive combat and uninspired mission structure prevent it from being much fun.
-
The only area where this game really shines is in its visuals. Developer Eurocom has pulled out all of the stops to bring out the highest level of realism in the character models and lush landscapes. This game may put a twinkle in your eye, but it’s quick to follow it up with a razor-sharp cutlass.
-
In the end, the Pirates 3 game comes out being the best of the movie-game trilogies, but that isn't saying much.
-
PSM MagazineEnemies fight identically; thus, so do you. [Aug 2007, p.86]
-
PSM3 Magazine UKThe early promise soon fades, leaving a repetitive slash-'em-up. A shame, frankly. [July 2007, p.66]
-
If came down to playing this game for seven hours or walking the plank, it would be a tough choice. Save your hard-earned cash for a barrel of rum and consider a rental.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThe developers got so many of the visual details dead-on...didn't they think that maybe the gameplay should be at least marginally decent too. [July 2007, p.86]
-
A passer-by who saw someone playing At World's End could be forgiven for thinking the game is worth a look, but beneath its next-gen gloss lies nothing more than a basic action game.
-
Play UKThe only truly decent thing in the game is the music, and the fact that it's undeniably cool to explore the sets from the trilogy. [Issue#154, p.68]
-
AceGamezStagnation ends up being the best way I can monosyllabically describe Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Uninspired gameplay mixed with frustratingly dumb A.I. is a recipe for disaster, no matter how pretty your game looks or sounds.
-
BoomtownBy no means a complete disaster, but by no means worth spending money on.
-
Unless you’re dying for achievements or are a fan of the films, there’s no reason to buy or even rent At World’s End. Instead, leave it to the films to do all the work for you, it’s easier and costs less.
-
At World's End does pay tribute to the movie on which it is based, but it's difficult to find much here to make this game anything other than an average hack and slash adventure. PotC proves once again, that movie tie-in games are very rarely worth the amount of money thrown at them.
-
Edge MagazineAt World’s End would shame Jack Sparrow himself: it’s boring, nondescript and significantly lacking in adventure. [July 2007, p.91]
