Though DuckTales Remastered might not live up to its esteemed precursor in every single regard, it surpasses it in others, and ends up incredibly fun on the whole.

DuckTales offers the best platformer gameplay that existed in the late 80s. WayForward has done a flawless XXI century update to a great classic from Capcom's golden age. The game is also closer to the original animated series in a surprising way.

Sure, a few things are different and a bit more involved and embellished than before, but it's lovely overall. If someone already has more than a passing interest in DuckTales, then DuckTales Remastered will satisfy their needs.

The return of DuckTales has succeeded. This remake features slick graphics and old-school gameplay, making for a great PlayStation Network title.

DuckTales remastered is old-school platforming at its best, doing justice to the original while adding gorgeous visuals and extra content into the mix for good measure.

The game is short, but its price is corresponding to that so there is no reason not to try it.

Capcom could have played it lazy for this Remake of Duck Tales, but the Japanese studio instead decided to pay tribute to one of it's most mythic games of the Famicom Era, by bringing us this fully reimagined version of the game. Sure, some things haven't changed like the gameplay or the levels that made its success, but the work on the visuals is such a bliss, and the new content surely enough too keep you entertained, even 20 years after the first dip in that adventure which left us so many memories. And for the younger players, it's the right time to discover an excellent platformer game.

Ducktales Remastered is clearly made with care and considerable skill, but it might actually have a little too much in love for its source material. It looks and sounds great, but the huge effort spent to tell a story in the same voice as the TV show gives it the unbalanced feel of a fan project.

Not only an honest tribute to the classic Capcom game, but also a sincere love letter to Disney's original TV series.

WayForward have found that magical Pixar-esque sweet spot of humour that will appeal to both adults and kids. This an absolute triumph of a remake, it’s just a shame the game can be over so quickly.

DuckTales has challenging moments without ever demoralizing the player; my palms were sweaty by the time the credits rolled.

A great game and a better remake, but still as short as the original.

A fantastic remastered edition of the mega classic NES platformer. WayForward demonstrates once again they are one of the top studios in the 2D field.

Seven. Seven times we sat through the entire opening sequence, whistling the Ducktales theme song along like a deranged school boy, before pressing the start button. But that doesn't mean we also want to sit through the boring new cut scenes in this remake. [September p.92]

You’ll see that at WayForward there are some Duck Tales fans at work. From animations to remixes of the original soundtrack this jump&run delivers retro feeling. More puzzles, abilities or contemporary ideas would work wonders though.

Nostalgic feelings aside, the Remastered edition of Duck Tales is a truly enjoyable platformer ideal for young and older gamers.

Nostalgia can only take you so far as DuckTales: Remastered proves. I appreciate the homage to a NES Classic but games have moved so far beyond this simple structure that it's more frustration than fascination at this point.

Fans of the cartoon and original game will love all of the improvements and visuals, and will most likely embrace the nostalgia. Everyone else will have fun and then move on.

A worthy purchase for those who have experience with the original and are looking for a nostalgia rush. Just temper your expectations, because DuckTales simply isn’t as good as you probably remember.

Although Scrooge’s pogo-stick jump is a tad unresponsive, this is a handsome, crisp platformer that occasionally makes me happier than a duck doing backstroke in a giant bin full of bullion. Well, in-between doing all the swears.

Ducktales: Remastered is a nostalgic title for those who miss tactical platform games, although it lacks the variety of mechanics that a gamer of the 21st century would expect. Even though, it is a well executed overhaul of an 80's game.

Duck Tales Remastered is for the most part very much like the original. The graphics have been updated and so has the audio quality. The controls and level design are still the same which is both positive as well as negative. They hold up somewhat but feel mostly old and trite. Which makes Duck Tales Remastered a game foremost for those nostalgic and prepared for a lot of frustration.

The original release may not be as good as you remember it, but DuckTales: Remastered is an affectionate rendition that will be sure to pluck at your nostalgic heart strings. For those without a reference point, this may feel like a pretty but archaic platformer, but if you can get past the obtrusive cut-scenes, fans of the NES classic shouldn’t think twice about giving this a quack.

By the time I finished DuckTales Remastered, I felt like I had both a pleasant and hollow experience.

That’s the gist of it really. Ducktales Remastered looks great and sounds great, but at the end of the day, it’s tired and repetitive. Does it color my perception of the older classic? Not in the least. But it will make me wary in the future, when a developer trudges out an old memory in new clothing, whispering the sweet siren’s call in my ear, telling me it will all feel the same. It might, sure, but it rarely ever does.

With DuckTales Remastered, Wayforward attempted to balance authenticity and nostalgia with trying to offer an original experience. The end result feels somewhat confused, getting pulled in both directions at once without ever settling on one or the other.
