Darkstalkers Resurrection

If you’re a fan of Darkstalkers at all, waste no time in picking this up. If you haven’t played the series before, but have any interest in fighting games, you’d do well to consider this as well - this is the definitive Darkstalkers, and you may just find that something special that’s gripped the series’ cult of fans.

Darkstalkers Resurrection is a great compilation of two of the most unique fighting games that have ever been made by Capcom.

DarkStalkers Resurrection is yet another high-quality fighting game collection from Capcom, a company that has gotten real good at this sort of thing. With an online mode and plenty of goodies to unlock, this DarkStalkers compilation is easy to embrace with open arms. Don't be intimidated by the chaotic action, the two games found in DarkStalkers Resurrection are well worth the asking price.

In fact, this is such a solid package that I don't have any outright criticisms, although it would have been nice if they'd thrown in the original Darkstalkers for completion's sake.

Ultimately, it's the memorable cast of misfit monsters that makes Resurrection so enjoyable, whether you grew up in the arcades with them or not.

Iron Galaxy Studios resurrects two of the most beautifully crafted 2D fighting games ever, and does so with grace. Night Warriors and Darkstalkers 3 are still unforgiving and difficult to learn, but well worth the time investment. Solid netcode and lots of extras sets the bar high for HD conversions.

Darkstalkers Resurrection is a great collection of some classic games. I really liked playing Darkstalkers 3, and the unusual round system and art style made the game seem like more than just another solid fighting game. Iron Galaxy did a great job updating the game in terms of visuals, tutorials, and online play. Night Warriors is by far the weaker of the two games, but Darkstalkers 3 is worth the price of admission. It’s not the best fighting game ever made, but it’s a lot of fun and the price point is right.

Darkstalkers Resurrection is a solid package, shining a well-deserved spotlight on the dusty franchise, and allowing old fans and newcomers alike to spend quality time with the unforgettable cast.

Iron Galaxy has done no wrong with this beautifully cared for port of the two Darkstalkers games. The only negative is that the use of the arcade version means that Darkstalkers 3 is missing a few characters that appeared in the console version, but apart from that, this is a port full of love and care for the franchise.

Darkstalkers Resurrection remains a solid alternative to the classic Super Street Fighter II, Marvel vs Capcom and Street Fighter III Online Edition.

For those who loved the originals, the $15 investment is well spent. For those who've never experienced the franchise before but love their fighting games, this nostalgic trip is well worth the money to see how one of the greats did it earlier.

Resurrection is great and just one of the many little treasures buried deep in Capcom's lair of gaming classics.

A faithful replication of the old arcade series. Iron Galaxy Studios — known for developing online HD releases of arcade games — did their best to ensure the game’s aesthetic carried over to a larger screen.

It may not look the best these days, but this revamped Darkstalkers collection plays like a dream and boasts excellent netcode to boot. Throw in a great tutorial system and it's a winner, particularly at arcade title prices.

Darkstalkers: Resurrection is one of the best two-dimensional fighting game ever, thanks to the exceptional and well balanced gameplay.

Though the games themselves may be a little too obscure or esoteric for some fighting-game fanatics, Capcom’s under-appreciated Darkstalkers series has been brought back in fantastic fashion in Darkstalkers Resurrection.

Darkstalkers Resurrection offers a nice opportunity for the lovers of hardcore fighting games to jump into something else, with all sorts of modern comforts that we’ve come to expect. It also offers a lot for the rookie fighter who wants to improve but can’t find himself in the current offerings of street fighters, iron fists and comic book characters. The learning curve could’ve been evened out a bit more, but it is tough to actually get caught up in it. It’s just too awesome for that to happen.

With Darkstalkers Resurrection Capcom has done a great job, creating an appealing collection at the right price. Both Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 are deep and entertaining, with tons of interesting options to play with.

A welcome return for a significant but sadly overlooked part of Capcom’s fighting game heritage, and one of the best HD updates of a 2D game ever seen.

In terms of creating a stable online environment where you can adjust the GGPO delay and see your opponent's ping rating before a match begins, Resurrection is hard to fault.

If you like your 2D-beat-em-up with a big helping of retro pixel charm, then Darkstalkers Resurrection is for you, even though you don’t get the complete package, but just the highlights in the form of Night Warriors and Darkstalkers 3.

Unfortunately Darkstalkers is not a new game, it is a collection of the second and third game in the franchise, previously released on the PSone during the mid 90s. Officially it is an HD-collection, but it is the multiplayer that adds the real value to this re-release. [April 2013, p.91]

A must-have game for fans of the 2D fighting genre in the same way as Marvel Vs Capcom Origins was before it.

Darkstalkers Resurrection might be just a gauge for future releases of the series, but the effort put into it from Iron Galaxy and Capcom certainly says otherwise. The HD upgrade mixed with the extras and online play make this a solid package that any Darkstalkers' fan will want to snag.

Capcom knows how to profit from their former glories. With Darkstalkers Resurrection, we will get two games for the price of one, at a very affordable 14.99€. Its main feature is the GGPO system, which ensures a quality online experience, even giving us the chance to upload our best matches to YouTube. Other than that, there are no more novelties, at least regarding the solo campaign.

As enjoyable as Darkstalkers may have been in the past, the series has been eclipsed and nothing about its revival can make that fact untrue.
