Don't listen to Joe Juba from Game Informer. This game is awesome. It's funny, fun, and can be a challenge later on. At 5 hours long, it's also the right length. It ends when it should and leaves you wanting more, which is a good thing. Do yourself a favor and download the trial.

(No random encounters; health restored after battles; no items used in combat; all characters have the same base stats so you don't change party members, just costumes and stickers.) Playing the mini-games, matching battle bonus sticker, and collecting costume components are fun diversions along the way. As I was playing, I was amused by how much my Inner Child was coming to the surface.

The graphics are average, but perfectly suited to the style of the game. The music is reminiscent of Psychonauts, another game by Double Fine, understated and very good at creating a Halloween ambience. My only criticisms are that I wish it had full voice acting and that it's too short! (For the price, I think it is a good value...I just wanted more!) Since it is a fairly short game, I recommend playing it over Halloween weekend to get into the spirit.

I'm looking forward to the next Double Fine game!

This game defines fun. The writing is funny, the graphics are cool, and yeah... it does make you feel like a kid again. Good controls and good pacing just add to the positive vibe of the game. One major issue... you can't save whenever. You have to go to a save event. That can be irritating. Overall, great experience.

Fun and engaging -- witty without taking itself too seriously, this game has all the hallmark's of a Double Fine game. I haven't finished it yet, but it's one of the most enjoyable PSN experiences I've had in a long while. Well done!

I love the combat system in this game. It is perfect to not have another real-time hack and slash diablo clone. I also love the Halloween theme, it is well done from the music to the visuals. This game is great and worth every cent.

A very fun, and addicting, game. The game is full of charm, witty dialogue, and whimsy. It appeals to the Halloween-loving kid inside anyone who has, well, ever loved Halloween. The one major downside is the simplistic combat system and how it can get a bit monotonous after you have been playing a while, but this is spiced up with the different costumes you unlock as you progress through the game. Nowhere else will you have a robot, the Statue of Liberty, and a unicorn join forces to battle the forces of candy-eating evil. If you liked any of Double Fine's other games (Psychonauts, Brutal Legend) chances are you will like this. Expand

It's a little on the short side but at the price, you really do get what you pay for. I would have been glad to pay double the price for this game on a disc if it had been a little longer but it is a fantastic game nonetheless. I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it really was.

This is a sweet little game. It is well written, funny, and very enjoyable. It is not long, but for $15 I felt I definitely got value. Get it and you won't be disappointed.

The controls are easy to pick up and figure out, and the movements you'll need to pull off some of the attacks will come with ease. Combat comes pretty easy too, considering you're limited in attacks based on the costume you're wearing.

The graphics are passable, but I do feel like character voices would've helped this game quite a bit. I grew up in the golden age of RPG / JRPG games so text comes natural, but with this game it just seems like voices could have added to the personality this game has.

Exploring can net you new costumes and abilities and the stages aren't so huge that you'll get lost, but the costumes you'll find never really live up to the effort.

I got this game for free by being a PS+ member, but I think a $10 price tag for this cute little adventure is totally worth the money. It's not a long game by any means and you won't find super diverse combat structure, But what it lacks in length and depth it makes up for in personality and fun factor!

Lovely world, child friendly and cute. The gameplay is a bit too simple and repetitive though. And because off a bug the developers never fixed I had to play the game all over again (and I hate that) becaus my savegame was corrupt.
I did play it over again though and I did have some fun with it.
Sidenote: this feels like a game two kids should play together, so why is it completely

Great game, great replay value, perfect Halloween game. Players can aimlessly knock on doors, either receiving candy or a scary suprise of a "Grubbin". Combat is sometimes better than candy, because the turn based combat is fun and rewarding. Easily the best game that can be downloaded off the PSN.

The most simple thing I can say about this game is this...... It's exactly what you would expect it to be. Play the demo, and there it is... the demo is exactly the maximum gameplay in this game. The only point in buying the game would be to continue the story mode and unlock new locations (not that you can explore the locations very much). I would say if you're really in the Halloween mood (which I was when I bought and played this) than this game is probably worth about $10. Expand

That’s Right Costume quest has been around for a decade…
This game is absolutely brilliant, bringing me back to the times of Trick or Treat Beat from cartoon network
you go around collecting candy, completing quests to unlock new costumes to kick goblin butt..
your main goal is to ring every doorbell in town, rid it of its candy to move on from section to section…
The qaulity of the gameplay here is a bit like a roller coaster though, with a pretty weak middle act…
but everything that surrounds is great…
Its so addicting trying to find your way around these areas…
The battles here are actually pretty challenging too later on… youll have to carfully balance your team with different costumes and different stamps that add a buff, which are obtained by trading for candy
Though combat does get fairly stale, so im happy that this is just as much of the game as actually exploring is.. theres just the right amount of balance…
there isn’t too much strategy to come up with here.. once you’ve got a good one youre practically unbeatable.. and if you do lose, you can hop back in and try again.. which will happen here and there… theres no use in grinding here…
All in all Costume Quest is a really charming rpg that will fil lyou with nostalgia as youre playing hide and seek with the tons kids and going door to door, hoping a goblin doesn’t answer
    I give Costume Quest
    an 7.5/10

I beat this game last night for the first time. The game is really silly with its humor. It’s not that difficult of a game, but that doesn’t make it not fun. It’s not that long either, but it’s not a one and done game. I’m looking forward to replaying this next October.

It's VERY boring, there was more cut scenes than gameplay, and a lot of the text is unskippable, making it even more tedious.

The game is very creative and colourful. I have completed the main quest using Reynold and as of when this review is written, I'm trying out the Grubbins on Ice DLC. And having done that I can now finally review it. The game is in the form of a JRPG, where the player gets to wear a costume that has been made from the materials that they have collected. Each costume has their own way of performing basic attacks and does different things on special attacks.

The things I didn't like about the game is that it has a very slow and confusing start. In the beginning
I didn't even know what I was supposed to do because of how many things were going on around me. I didn't know the tasks that were being spoken were supposed to be fulfilled in a specific order. I was trying to perform one task without knowing I couldn't do it (the teacher one, in case you're wondering). Then Big Bones also made a sudden appearance instead of gradually explaining who or what he is.

Other than that Costume Quest is a must play for family audience or for households where there are small children. In spite of being more than 10 years old at the time of writing this, it's still holds up against today's games.

Despite all the the good premises, this last game from Tim Schafer proves to be a small project with short and repetitive gameplay.
