Jul 19, 2011Despite these annoyances, Captain America: Super Soldier is a fun, if sometimes mindless, action roller coaster. The game doesn't stray too far from tried and tested gameplay mechanics, but its lack of creativity ultimately holds it back, and it lacks one final level of polish needed to shine.
-
Aug 8, 2011There's a really good Captain America game lurking in here somewhere, and if you gave them enough time, Next Level could probably make it. It's easy to imagine a sequel being successful, with slightly higher production values and a bit more development time. The combat is where it shines, but the rest of the game is flat and average. This still puts Captain America head and shoulders above most licensed games, but that's not saying much.
-
Sep 8, 2011It's no Game of the Year, but it's a solid product for fans.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKAug 14, 2011Copies Arkham Asylum almost to the point of plagiarism, but it's a decent imitation. [Sept 2011, p.112]
-
Play UKAug 9, 2011A real surprise, in that we actually wanted to keep playing it rather than being forced to for the sake of the review. [Issue#208, p.86]

Aug 7, 2011Most of the games published by SEGA based upon a superhero movie are varying from unplayable to really bad. But Captain America: Super Soldier is finally the game that is fun to play, has a great soundtrack and the gameplay works very good. It is still not the best game based upon a movie, but SEGA is finally learning. If you liked the movie, you'll like this game.
-
Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Aug 2, 2011The game doesn't always succeed, but the fact that it tries--and is largely fun, engaging adventure--makes it worth a look. [Sept 2011, p.85]
-
Jul 26, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier is by far the best blockbuster tie-in you're going to get your hands on this summer.
-
Jul 24, 2011In the end, Captain America shows off where Arkham Asylum really succeeded. While the combat system is nearly identical, everything else is a tremendous step backward.
-
Jul 22, 2011Despite these signs of a slight rush job and the mixed presentation, I couldn't help but have a good time with Captain America.
-
Aug 4, 2011Despite the game's shortcomings, it provides an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon and isn't a bad video game entry for a hero whose appearances have been limited to 2D fighters and isometric action-RPGs.
-
Jul 19, 2011Despite the ease of earning all of the Achievements/Trophies, the $50 retail price is a bit steep for the content when there is no multiplayer and the story, what little there is, isn't worth playing through again.
-
Jul 22, 2011It's not terribly long, and very linear. But the satisfying combat and extra content offer some redemption.
-
Jul 28, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier is one of the better movie tie-ins of late, but not a particularly inspiring game in its own right; a weak story, bland visuals and shoddy platforming are propped up by an enjoyable combat system which deserves a sequel of refinement.
-
Jul 21, 2011Captain America bashes enemies with style, but a dull story and bland visuals keep Super Soldier from being a star-spangled success.
-
Jul 15, 2011A strange mix between Wolverine and Arkham Asylum, SuperSoldier flaws are a dull level design, a simple AI, a creepy graphics engine. Too bad, because the global structure is somehow solid.
-
Jul 19, 2011Although the game has very good animations and a fun combat system, it lacks some more gameplay elements and is too simple, becoming a title only recommended for Cap fans.
-
Aug 18, 2011Marvel's iconic character makes a decent entry in videogames. There was potential here, but as with most movie tie-ins, the result looks rushed and unpolished.
-
Jul 28, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier is an enjoyable game, but a limited length and several shortcomings sting where it might have shone.
-
Jul 24, 2011It provides satisfying combat, though the developers' attempt to build on this with additional mechanics comes across as half-baked. As a companion piece to The First Avenger, it will no doubt shift a mound of copies, but if Next Level Games intended this to be Marvel's answer to Arkham Asylum, then they red, white and blew it.
-
Jul 20, 2011This five hour lasting adventure is fun to go through and never becomes boring. But Super Soldier has its share of flaws. The scripted levels and the disappointing graphics prevent you from having too much fun with this game.
-
Jul 19, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier shamelessly copies Batman: Arkham Asylum, and even though it doesn't achieve the same excellence, it remains a nice venting beat'em all to dive into before Batman Arkham City arrives in October. You may yet consider waiting a little so as to see its price get a little lower, because it's still not one of those average games that won't leave a mark in history.
-
Jul 19, 2011A weak story, boring platforming, and dully recurrent gameplay ensure that Captain America doesn't step outside of Batman's long shadow. Super Soldier is a decent enough action-adventure game, but it's completely inessential.
-
Jul 15, 2011Quotation forthcoming.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKSep 1, 2011The man packs a punch, but boring design and repetitive action leaves him hiding in the Dark Knight's shadow. [Oct 2011, p.103]
-
Jul 21, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier is too simple, becoming a title only recommended for Cap fans.
-
Aug 25, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier manages to be a bit better than other games based on films, but nothing more.
-
Aug 5, 2011It doesn't have any particularly horrible problems or glitches, but at no point is any part of the game especially impressive or enthralling either.
-
Jul 19, 2011I'm not expecting every licensed game that comes along to offer a worthwhile gaming experience on-par with Arkham Asylum or any other triple-A heavyweight, but come on -- I don't expect it to undervalue my time, either.
-
Jul 15, 2011The game is commendable for the way in which it tries to do something different, attempting to create an open-world adventure, but ultimately the execution is lacklustre and unable to support its ambition.
-
Jul 15, 2011This new game inspired in the Marvel universe is a title that lacks quality in every aspect. Only the fighting mechanics are great, as they are much better than any other aspect of the game. Captain America should have fared much, much better than this.
-
Jul 19, 2011Superhero games should make you feel what it's like to step into the shoes of someone special. They should let you experience what it's like to wear the cape, strap on the belt, and feel power flowing through your veins. In short, the best superhero games make us feel extraordinary...Captain America: Super Soldier is anything but.
-
Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaOct 6, 2011Captain America: Super Soldier is rudimentary gaming at its worst, a tired old melange of linear corridor crawling and basic brawling. It's utterly unsatisfying. That the whole thing weighs in at a squidge over four hours only further sabotages any shred of quality that managed to smuggle itself into the final game. Don't play this. [September 2011 p76]
-
Aug 15, 2011A poorly executed licence product. Nothing super about this at all.
