I usually have alot of patience with games and rarely hate them, but Bound by Flame was a truly horrible experience from start to finish. I thought the story and characters were ok, the graphics felt a bit dated and old, but none of these things bothered me very much. I'm always happy to play another RPG. I thought the story and characters were ok, the graphics felt a bit dated and old, but none of these things bothered me very much. I'm always happy to play another RPG. The truly terrible thing about the game is the battle mechanics that make things challenging for all the wrong reasons. The main character has a bad habit of turning the wrong way whenever engaging enemies and your companions are ridiculously weak, while all enemies have very high HP in comparison.

The enemies aren't that really hard, but the game always clusters you with more enemies that you can handle so most battles in the game are a repetitive: block-slash-block-slash. Even when you leveled up it still takes a while beating even the easiest enemies of the game, because no matter how strong your character gets it's the enemies are always way stronger (and outnumbering you). Upgrading armor and weapons doesn't really make much difference.

In the end I basically skipped melee-battle entirely and let the main character run around firing fireballs at everything because that was the fastest way of getting rid of enemies. It took me around 40 hours to get trough the game on normal difficulty and 39 of those hours I was annoyed/bored almost to tears.

I actually can't remember the last time I played something as bad as Bound by Flame. Usually I check reviews before I buy a game and Bound to Flame is always going to be a reminder to me about what can happen if I buy a game without waiting for proper reviews. So no I wouldn't recommend this game even to my worst enemy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This might be the worst game I ever played in my 12 years of gaming. The combat system is clunky as hell. The story is lame. The quests are tedious. The enemies are repeated all over. You have to fight the same boss 4 times in a row, but they are not the same boss! It is 4 different enemy characters with about the same moveset. Two characters are nice (Edwen and Mathras) and the last boss theme is nice. But this is the only part that is good about this game. Nothing more. The last boss is horrible, while Blackfrost is being hyped all the time in the game he is weak af, but the real last boss can kill you with 2 or 3 hits, while you have to strike him thousands of times to dish out damage. Even then, when you manage to make him go to second phase and spawn his bony dragon, the fight gets all laggy. I beat Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, this is not a good challenge, it is just a piece of **** Expand
