    +
    • Graphics are very nice.
    • Music, when audible, is very good. Yet it is less of a motif than Normand Corbeil's prior work.
    • Cinematically nice to watch.

    -
    • Sad loss of actions with big consequences.
    • Lack of fear from impending death.
    • Excessively simple gameplay (the tutorials were by far the hardest parts of the game!)
    • *Loss of thoughts ability*- biggest downfall for me, it makes it harder to identify with the character(s).

Conclusion: I think this may have been a slight 'relative' slunk for the high standards of Quantic Dream for gripping gameplay, yet an exceptional performance in cinematic quality. Sadly, the net result on 'immersive gameplay' is quite a drop.

Beyond two souls has a okay story, but it's just a movie, not a interactive movie, just a movie. your choices do not matter the only choices that affect the game is the one at the end. god they should of made Kara instead. Is this really worth £40/$60 just for a movie that your choices do not matter?

I am simply a regular player, and I enjoyed this game very much. I don't care about meticulous analysis of each game element, like I have seen in many places about plot holes, or player interaction, don't care at all about anything besides being satisfied with what I am playing. Recommended.

First off, the characters are flat and boring. There is so little realistic interaction between the characters that you are left with no reason to actually care about anyone in this game. We have no sense of who Jodie is as a person and she doesn't undergo any kind of character arc.

This is the dumbest game I have ever played!!! There is no purpose!!! No objective!!! It isn't even fun game play! Just some stupid kid with an imaginary friend that does nothing but a bunch of stupid tricks. And SSSLLLOOOWWW!. What a total waste of time and money. Absolutely the worst game I've bought in years. I'm selling it if anyone wants it, although it isn't worth $10.

Beyond: Two Souls was a very intriguing game, mostly plot wise. Though it may have had some confusing parts and areas that just did not make sense whatsoever, it was a memorable game that was worth my money. Plus, come on, Quantic Dream got Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page for it. You can't go wrong with that, my friends.

When I saw the beyond two souls trailer I actually got pretty excited, I like stealth games and it seemed to play like a splinter cell with a super natural element, but then I saw his name, David Cage. From that moment on wards I knew it would be full of quick time events and have a 2 year old excuse of a story, aka heavy rain or just be the definition of bad, aka Two Worlds, and you know what, I was absolutely RIGHT. Not for one of those factors but for both of them.

OK I’ll will start with the good for once. The presentation and acting is an improvement from Heavy Rain but that's not saying much (just to avoid hate I don’t think heavy rain is BAD it is ok). That's it that is the only good I can find in this game. The first thing you will notice is that this movie sorry I meant “game” is trying so hard to be a movie, David Cage has this strange obsession with bringing the cinematic experience to the game industry, one has to be VERY careful with this otherwise you get a game that's actually a movie. Beyond has fell for this trap, everything thing is done for you, the game play and action is nothing but quick time events and moral choices that have no effect on the story what so ever and most of the time make no sense.

Let’s talk about the combat, what combat? When you're about to be hit jerk the joystick in that direction and you win. You're fellow ghost friend is a nice idea but he actually removes the fun for two reasons. One, when you kill enemy's the game decides what you can or cannot do to them, you may what to possess them but the game will just decide you can only kill them FOR NO REASON. He also acts as the guy that does the blight of the modern triple a game stuff, like pressing buttons to proceed. Two, he removes all tension from the combat. You see he can make some sort of ghost shield thing around Jodie that makes her immune to everything, so she now super women and you now have no tension in the combat whatsoever, not that it matters because the combat is easy and uninvolving as humanly possible.

Ok Ok I will stop ranting and look at beyond in a story perspective…..it’s bad. The game revolves around Jodie from a child to teens and her being a CIA agent, in no chronological order, yeah it’s one of those stories. I didn’t understand anything about the CIA carer but it’s mainly Jodie trying to be accepted for what she is…huh for David that isn’t bad. HOW DOES HE RUIN IT? Well I will explain it with this one piece of story. Well the other half of the story that isn’t being mopey and depressed (though I do feel she has great acting at times) she is chasing after hunky boys. One guy who was being REAL bully to her earlier goes on a date with him, Jodie then tells her ghost friend not to kill him because she is falling in love with him. I’m sorry but THAT DOES NOT WORK! YOU DON’T HATE SOMEONE THEN LOVE SOMEONE IT MAKES NO SENCE. Also Jodie spends a lot of time wearing nothing but her underwear, it made me feel awkward.

Overall we must all forget that this game exists, when I saw that this game scored decently I was horribly shocked, all of my friends and that metacritics i know agree with me, so why is it scoring so high? One would think that after making so many games that are movies David would at least get better at it but no he’s getting WORSE. For one he has got a really strange view of poverty, with self -control and standing as one. Maybe he is trying to not alienate the people he will have to live with if he keeps making games like this one. Thank you zero punctuation (go check that guy out he’s awesome)

The important thing to realize here is that you're dealing with an interactive movie here. It's not a game; it has game elements. Still, if you see it for what it is and can still enjoy the beautiful graphics and storyline, there's nothing wrong with that. Rent or get it at a good discount price.

The chapters are presented in a mixed order. You'll end up playing scenes at the age of 9 after some at 20-something, going back to 15 y.o., etc.. At some point, the whole chronology became unclear to me and I thought the introduction sequence would be the last scene.

Seriously, what I'm trying to say is that the story AND the storytelling are a mess. It's an experiment, but as Kotaku wrote, "You'll probably dislike Beyond: Two Souls if you wish Heavy Rain had been more experimental, not less." I feel like the military sequences and and the Special Forces storyline were pushed only for marketing purposes.

Nah... I can't believe I spent bucks and time on this game. I'll never buy a QuanticDream game without renting it first again...

Those previous games were less about saving the world (Fahrenheit was, but only near the ending, which sucked horribly anyway) and more about characters dealing with their falling apart for some reason. It was about interaction between different characters - here you only play Jodie&Aiden.

It lacked...I don't know...intrigue? Something to keep you on your toes. Maybe it was because the story was presented this awkwardly - it ruined my immersion sometimes. Interesting way to present a story, but I think it was too fragmented and would prefer chronological presentation.

QTE were much bettter than thier previous games without retarted flashing colors Fahrenheit had. Nice job here.

Jodie is an interesting character, and Aiden too, I'm glad they've explained WHY Aiden was with her all the time. Other characters felt really nicely developed too ! I especially liked Nathan and Cole, yeah they were probably a little bit cliche, but still great characters.

They wrapped up the plot nicely. Multiple endings of which most made sense. Potential hint of future sequel maybe ?

It gets a solid 7/10 from me.
And for those who are bashing this game for its story....maybe try Call of Duty. Something with a story more fit for your intellectual possibilities.

The controls aren't challenging at all. just sometimes confusing. And thankfully the game doesn't punish you for failing. Except for few areas. I felt is somehow realistic. As you aren't supposed to be super hero. And if you are then you truly managed your controller very well and you deserve it :)
Ok the Story. Very interesting story. But I think Cage got too excited and didn't deliver what he really wanted to tell. Making the story fragile. I didn't like the jumps in the timeline. I would prefer it playing it in ordered sequence. For example in Homeless chapter I wanted to know why Jodie run away. She said that she was being used. I wanted to know how and in what way. And actually I would prefer to know that before playing this chapter.

Decisions you made in the game has no effect in anyway. It just could change the game play but not how the story will flow. Decisions and conversation control are there just to keep you interacting with the game and cut scenes

Acting in superior. All actors. Homeless chapter was fantastic in acting.
I agree that there are moments that where boring in the game. Specially when you replay a chapter. You just wish to be able to skip few parts. You already knew.

Saving. Why I can't pause and save my game! This one feature I really would love to have. I wanted to be able to save at some point to be able to return and restart from that point. I don't want to replay a whole chapter to just do one single different action.

It's not easy to like this game and if you do you'll love it so much. And if not you'll just hate it.
I gave it 6.5 on IGN and I will give it here 7

One last thing. Please guys be mature in reviewing. don't score games just because it's score is too low or too high. No need to be fan boys. This game isn't 10 nor zero. It's a good game. But got missed up for some reason. And this is acceptable. No need to be radical.

Wanted to like it more than I actually did, especially because Heavy Rain is one of my favourite games of all time. But the non-linear storyline is weak and you feel as though your choices don't matter - the player is robbed of what makes games unique - agency - as they're just trying to get to the next scene. The QTE "flick the stick" is too streamlined and unsatisfying as well.

Beyond: Two Souls is the kind of game that not all gamers would like, simply because it's not like a FPS or Hack & slash game, it's a game that allows player to interactive with the character uniquely that no games have the ability or the patience to do that. That being said, you will still understand the whole story once you finish the game or you either play the whole game twice, there is tons of replay value, not going to spoil anything. The story has some mind blowing momments, that you just say to yourself 'what the F**k' As for gameplay is certainly not for everyone is either love it or 'where can I sell this game?' The game has it own pace and does a pretty good job explaining young Jodie homles to adult Jodie homles, how she have to go though her childhood with Aiden and being a teenage that Is not allow to leave house to meet her friends due to Aiden presence.
Overall the story will make you want to play more and more.

As for gamplay itself, it's amazing BUT still have some room of improvement. I don't get it when people say it's confusing how Jodie swings her hand to the direction, it's just common sense that how you react natural when you are the one in the real situation.(by the way, the part when Jodie prepare a meal for Ryan arrival is AWESOME! With aiden constantly disturb them.

Overall, this game is perfect for some players who really want to experience a brand new genre and players to love story over gameplay itself, THIS IS FOR YOU.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally I think that the story was good, could have been better but over all I enjoyed it. The storyline revolves around the idea of a human being tied to a spirit or entity from birth. The spirit allows the human host to exhibit what we might define as telekinesis, remote viewing and possession. In this case the human host is Jodie, a girl who ends up growing in a secretive institution bent on understanding her incredible extra-sensorial powers.

The game narrative uses the stratagem of flashbacks to gradually bring more insight into the story as it progresses. However while flashbacks may have value in an actual movie, here I think it was overdone. Regardless as the game progresses we discover more about Jodie’s past and what eventually leads her from a rather reclusive child, to angst riddled teen and troubled young adult.

While the acting, captured meticulously via advanced motion capture, is superlative thanks to excellent work by Ellen Page (Jodie) and Willem Defoe (Nathan), I felt that the emotional build-up between scenes comes across as somewhat disjointed. This in my opinion is a pity, as there is material in there for a good solid story, but hopelessly garbled up with several, small, careless flourishes made for reasons that lay beyond my comprehension.

For example, the Ryan (Eric Winter) character is central to some important scenes within the game. He is the first CIA contact Jodie is introduced to as well as a possible romantic interest. This would-be love affair develops into the dinner scene. Jodie receives a phone call from Ryan asking her why she did not reply to his invitation to go with him on a date. Jodie discovers that the invite was an email which she could not have read on account of Aiden causing her laptop to crash. She then invites Ryan for dinner but Aiden plays up horribly making Ryan feel uncomfortable to the point that he leaves but not before making it obvious he has feeling for her. Later in the game as part of a CIA mission we get Ryan sending Jodie callously off to assassinated a person of interest he defines as a Warlord and who turns out to be an innocent man. Ryan loves Jodie and he’d do something like that? It simply doesn’t make any sense.

There are other disjoints that simply do not add up, for instance the Nathan/Jodie rapport throughout the game. From several flashback scenes, we get the impression that Nathan really cares about Jodie. When Jodie is young, Nathan loses both his wife and his daughter in a tragic car accident; Jodie uses her powers to allow a grieving Nathan to listen to the voices of his recently deceased wife and child. You would think this single anecdote would bring them closer on a familial level.

While Jodie represents research potential for him, and Nathan is even willing to place her in harm’s way to close a dangerous rift into the infraworld, you still get the impression that these decisions are taken heavy heartedly and in the awareness that only Jodie can get the job done; this feeling of genuine concern occurs repeatedly across a number of scenes.

So this keeps adding up, that Nathan would never do things that might harm Jodie. Yet later in the game, Nathan allows CIA operatives to knock her out cold an bring her back to him when she goes to visit her natural mother, and there again does absolutely nothing when a General decides to put Jodie into a forced coma because she has become too dangerous to let go. Towards the end, you are suddenly treated to a Nathan who apparently never really overcame his grief for the loss of his wife and child and who heartlessly finds a manner to trap their spirits indefinitely within a containment field. He is suddenly portrayed as being so maddened by this obsession that when Jodie reveals that the spirits he is containing are suffering because of his actions, he snaps at Jodie telling her she is lying. So the caring, almost gentle Nathan is now a raving schizoid?! If he cared so much for Jodie, showing it repeatedly, wouldn’t this love if anything have allowed him to diminish his sense of loss over time? Would not Jodie have to some extent become the adoptive daughter he needed to mend his grieving heart?

The problem of whether to rubbish this game would not present itself if the story was totally bad, but it’s not the case. We have a storyline here that holds a tonne of potential but which really needed some serious rewrites of what I consider important details that fail to gel by the end of the game.

Regardless “Beyond Two Souls” is a great effort and well worth going through. One may find fault with some aspects of the narrative but the inherent potential within, means I would gladly see it transferred to a traditional movie format. Obviously provided that the disjointed details in the narrative are corrected and that both Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe keep their roles.

The story is non interesting and choices rarely matter and honestly directed and written badly. During QTE scenes it doesn't matter if you press a button or not the game plays them out for you, like a movie. Apart from that gameplay is short and feels clunky and awkward, it's press this then hold down this. Cutscenes are played out whether or not you press this button when told. Playing as Aiden can be fun at times when messing up a room and scaring NPC's but that lasts less than 10 minutes and the effect moves rather quickly. Most environments are intractable but nothing really happens when you interact with them.

Characters are okay and well written but NPC's aren't programmed well in the playable environment, NPC's will just stand there doing nothing if you stand there and watch them. They look great especially Ellen Page and Williem Dafoe's characters. To have characters so life like on eight year old hardware is impressive.

Not the best game I've ever played but not the worst either, I wouldn't highly recommend it to anyone as the plot is unimpressive and it feels like a movie. Definitely a 6/10 shouldn't be any higher, unlike Telltale's The Walking Dead it may only be good through it's character and story, Beyond: Two Souls get's both wrong.

Beyond: Two Souls is a mixed affair. On the one hand I was incredibly engrossed in the story telling and fabulous visuals. On the other hand the illusion was often shattered by incredibly irritating controls and camera angles.

I was not able to grow with her through her journey like I did with Ellie from The Last of Us, Elizabeth from BioShock or Laura Croft. Every time an interesting chapter would be completed I was dragged back to a boring uninteresting segment of her childhood. There is no reason for me to have to fight my way off a train to the middle of a towns Main Street where I have to kill a half dozen soldiers to then play a child in a snow fight in the next chapter. Well, I just signed up to Metacritic to give a review for Beyond: Two Souls - that's how much I liked it.

This is a remarkable achievement and I think so even though I understand criticisms that argue that this is not a game, but a playable novel. I absolutely adored The Last of Us - and I adore Beyond Two Souls specifically for the same reason: STORY.

Character, story and emotional depth is unlike anything I have seen. The game recaptures a dying art, truly - and makes story and characters relevant again. Remember why 8-bit games of 1980s were more fun than 1920x1800 HD games of today? It was story and emotional reality (not factual, or graphic reality).

Yet, I have to tell you the game has some of the best graphics I have seen on PS3 platform; visuals, shading - and oh my god, camera angles (cinematography) are top quality. Visuals of this game is pure artistic genius.

I could easily list this game at the Top 3 of best PS3 games I have played.

Downsides that really doesn't make this game a lesser game:

    - Not actually a game - your decisions don't really have much impact on playing experience. Sequel can retain artistic aspects of this and build on it by developing a kick-ass engine in shooting, stealth, movement etc. to make it more of a game-novel combination.

    - You don't die, really. So you can't make much of a mistake in the game. I think game could be developed further in that aspect.

    - Very linear story line. A combination of story telling, plus sandbox experience will be really amazing.

If all three shortcomings can be improved in the next sequel (not DLC, an actual new game as sequel), this came can truly become one of the best games of all time, in all platforms.

Usually I don't feel compelled to write reviews, but I honestly thought Beyond: Two Souls was disappointing beyond my expectations and deserved public comment.

My expectations were high because I enjoyed Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain so immensely -- innovative control style, great graphics, and compelling gameplay. I expected the follow-on would present other new innovations in addition to high quality gameplay and a new story. Oh how wrong I was.

The control style, while being similar to Heavy Rain, seemed dumbed down and simplified. Gone are the days of feeling like my button press was somehow important or relevant to the on screen action. For this game, most button presses function merely as acknowledgement that you're ready to progress with the story. Boring.

The gameplay was tame. I spent a lot more time opening doors, packing bags, and tossing/turning in bed than I would care to. I occasionally, during the game, would think fondly of the relatively exciting time I normally have at my desk job. Sad.

The story was poor, uninteresting, and unoriginal. The concept was original-ish and okay, but the story and the writing to convey the concept was boilerplate, mediocre at best. So many clichés, plot holes, unresolved questions, impersonal story arcs, etc etc etc. I'd say 90% of the story felt like filler, leaving me with an incessant feeling of incompleteness and dissatisfaction.

The story telling mechanic -- involving shifting around chronologically -- seemed pointless and disjointed. I appreciate the idea of playing with time when telling a story, but it was very poorly designed for this story.

The only element of the game I really liked was the graphics. But of course, this was the element that took the least amount of work, given that they had already produced a game with graphics of this caliber. Unfortunately, it takes more than good graphics to make a good game. Sorry, Quantic Dream.

While in "free" mode (exploring, etc) you can pass control to the other player, but you have to wait for them to pass it back. What left a lasting impression was that similar to how Jodie cannot control Aiden, when my partner passed control she could ask me what she wanted but it was ultimately my decision. Likewise, she made narrative choices I opposed, but in the end it solidified the "two distinct souls" aspect of the game and made the experience so much richer for me. I suggest if you haven't played these kind of games before you look at some youtube videos to better understand it before you buy it and judge it based upon what it's not promising to be. It's more comparable in gameplay to King's Quest series than an action packed thriller.

One of the best games I've ever played. Must have on PS3 and PS4.
    Don't believe to all this critic's sh*t
A great story, amazing graphic, actors however... you have to play themselves

Detroit Become Human.
    P.S.

If you love Heavy Rain you can give this a try. Performances of Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe is great. The story is kinda interesting. I think the problem is the story not going chronological and it causes a disconnection between episodes.

Someone could say that im overrating this game, but man... it was more like watching 10hours long movie than playing a game.

I have to "put my hat off" to whole development team, which wrote characters in this game. Everything is connected in such a touching way. I mean.. i didnt care for such a long time who will live and who will die in game. Quantic Dream could hardly do it better.

+ Me a huge My Chemical Romance fan, i really loved Jodies emo phase. I enjoyed that part of game so much, its a shame that it ended how it ended.

Another thing which you will love during your walktrough is definitely the soundtrack. It supports your emotions and connect you with the Jodies emotions.

So in the end, dear Mr. David Cage. I want to thank you for an experience I will never forget. I don't regret a single second I spent playing this game. (watching a movie).

    Definitely 10/10 for this masterpiece.

David Cage will bewegen, will Reaktionen hervorrufen beim Spieler.

I believe that this game was first of the interactive story genre or whatever it's called game I have played and I really liked it. Story wasn't mind blowing but I really liked and enjoyed it.

This game was doomed from the very begging of the development. Main concept about a girl with supernatural telepathic abilities capable to talk with dead men is extremely trivial, characters and dialogs are dull and unremarkable however, so they don't help the situation. Niesamowita gra.

Beyond: Two Souls plays like an interactive movie that tells an interesting, albeit scattered story. It seems like a bunch of genres crammed into one, which is good for variety, but leaves gameplay systems limited. The soundtrack for this game is nothing short of incredible.

Beyond: Two Souls is a capital failure as both a story and as a game. The adventure plays itself and the player is left to push the right buttons in the right order. The story you are rewarded with is a mess of odd writing and poor directing choices from a game creator that obviously wants to create great art but seems to be incapable of doing so. Even fans of Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain should prepare for what is unfortunately a monumental disappointment.
