  2. Reliving the real-life Olympics is a far better option that trying to experience them in a virtual realm; this game will frustrate, annoy, and soon tire most any gamer.
  3. Beijing 2008 proves beyond a doubt that rapidly pushing buttons is not fun.
  4. Archaic button mashers such as Beijing 2008 just aren’t relevant anymore.

Visuals and sound are pretty standard for the 7th generation of consoles, but still manages to create a nice atmosphere. Especially when your athletes hit the podium. It is also nice to see a lot of top medal winning countries make the roster, but not as many as I would have liked.

The game play itself is pretty solid with a great variety of events. For the racing in particular, whether it's running or swimming, there has been heavy criticism for the 'starting' mechanic. But once you get the timing right, it can be add to the fun of the game. As for all the other events, the quality is pretty consistent. The exception might be Teakwondo as it gives you no guidance as to how it works. But every other event is a simple matter of getting the mechanics down pat and then can be a lot of fun. To complement all this, there is a pretty cool 'Olympic games' mode that acts as a single player campaign that provides a decent challenge. Additionally, there is great local multiplayer support to enjoy some healthy competition with mates.

Very good Olympic game overall. If playing on the PS3, make sure your console is offline or the game won't work. Other than that, very good if you enjoy your summer Olympic video games.

However after you realise you are merely smashing a button as fast as you can to win each race or comp the idea that seemed so great suddenly seems incredibly bad and boring. After i got sick of smashing the X button much like i would a spider that won't die, I started wishing that the X button would somehow turn into a suicide button because this game had revealed itself to be a piece of tedious, simplistic crap. Simplicity can often be a good thing in games, but in this case simplicity is combined with boring repetitiveness to equal a poor, lifeless and overall CRAP game. Full Review »
