May 22, 2012There are some neat ideas bubbling beneath Battleship's surface, but the overall poor presentation and frustrating lack of ideas mean this tie-in is best left at the bottom of the ocean.
-
Apr 24, 2012This is not going to set the gaming world on fire by any means but if you're a sucker for movie tie-ins, have reasonable to low FPS expectations and don't mind some light RTS antics, Battleship is a decent enough distraction for a handful of hours or so.

Official PlayStation Magazine BeneluxJun 14, 2012Once in a while you get a break from the shooter action in the form of a sea battle. With a single press on the L2 button you can command the human fleet towards the alien invaders. Unfortunately the strategy is about as shallow as the obligatory weather chat at the baker's. [June 2012, p.97]

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaJun 12, 2012Battleship could never work as plain shooter. It's a facsimile of a facsimile that tries to pay homage to some of the biggest shooters out there but ends up ripping them off and in turn ends up being bland, characterless yet functional. The RTS elements definitely add an extra layer, but the strategic payoff is muted by near-constant nannying needed to keep them – and the game – afloat. [June 2012, p79]
-
May 3, 2012The visuals are decent in Battleship, albeit extremely monotonous, and the controls are solid - but there are just too many negatives in the game to ever appreciate them.
-
Play UKJun 17, 2012If you get it for nothing, give it a half an hour. If you don't, don't. [Issue#219, p.81]
-
May 22, 2012This is another game on the long list of uninspired games based on film licenses.
-
May 3, 2012There's an element of novelty in the first few minutes of play, but it doesn't last long. It isn't even the sketchy gameplay that sinks this Battleship – it's the abhorrently commercial objective apparent in every second of rushed gameplay. There's no artistic vision here, and the original idea at its core hasn't been given the time and love needed to build a coherent or enjoyable game.
-
May 15, 2012A piece of trash as expected. Do your fellow gamer a favor: when you see Battleship in your local game store, cover it with a copy of a better game. People will thank you for it.
-
Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Jun 29, 2012The gameplay, inferior graphics, and "kill all aliens" story hover so staunchly between terrible and mediocre that we couldn't recommend Battleship even if it were a $15 download. [Aug 2012, p.87]
-
May 25, 2012The graphics and presentation are bland. There are only three enemy types to dispose of. There is no multiplayer. Other than collecting in-game pegs inspired from the board game, replayability scarcely exists.
