Battle Fantasia, a fighting game developed by Arc System Works, creators of Guilty Gear franchise, is a good title, with 12 beautifully illustrated characters in a good JRPG style. But this game can't compete with the high profile fighters, especially SFIV, or the own GG saga.
-
Backed by a quality studio, Battle Fantasia is an interesting fighting game which can result risky at times. It has some RPG elements, although shallow, which change some of the more typical aspects of its genre, and only a dozen characters. The advantage is that there are no filler characters, but a larger line-up would have favoured the game with more variety.

Playstation Official Magazine UKThere's a decent fighting system underneath all the pencil-sketches and pixie dust. [Mar 2009, p.102]

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaA nice little curiosity, but seriously, Street Fighter V is out. [Mar 2009, p.78]

PSM3 Magazine UKA good looking, fun brawler with all the depth of a paddling pool. [Mar 2009, p.72]
-
It’s a more than passable title, but far too similar to (and not as good as) Street Fighter. The story mode is a joke, and the array of options serve little purpose but to decorate the main menu.

Games Master UKWhy play this when you could be playing the incredible Street Fighter 4? [Apr 2009, p.82]
-
Guilty Gear fans are going to be disappointed with Battle Fantasia, of that there is no doubt. Despite looking like it should be an incredibly hardcore fighter, what with the heavy anime-influence and Japanese voice work, it turns out that it's heavy on accessibility, with only the parry system requiring any practice.
-
Battle Fantasia is indeed an original product, different from other titles of the same genre. A gameplay too easy and boring completely spoils the fun, placing this title way below Arc System Works standards.
