Gas, man. Seriously. Bouts of some freaking ridiculous gas came exploding out of me for like a week. Coupled with painful stomach cramps. I thought my stomach was swallowing itself for a little while there but damn... Never had better gas in my life!

The plot is typical action-comicbook filler, however there are some genuine twists to the plot. The voice acting is great, the visual style matches the gritty yet comicbook approach from the first, and the gameplay is a blast. If you don't want to get 100% in the game, at least play through the Riddler storyline, because it's even better than it was in Arkham Asylum.

An action game that improves on it's predecessor. Arkham City is much larger and just more fun. The villains are very well represented (the Joker especially), the world is massive, the narrative is well done, the visuals are impressive and the music is great. While i honestly found the beginning a little slow, this game is great in every regard.

CONS: - Difficulty does not scale well – Some tedious fights – Story worse than Arkham Asylum

REVIEW: While this game does stand on its own, comparisons with Arkham Asylum are inevitable, and in fact somewhat useful, since this game’s target audience seems to be those who played the first entry in the series. The developers have made some incremental improvements which preserve the “feel” of being Batman while improving some of the things that were weak in the previous title. One of the things that this game does better than its predecessor is to streamline the mission starts so that they aren’t quite so obviously divided. In fact, this game does what few others do in making it seem like there will actually be a consequence if you don’t pursue the main story-line fast enough (although it turns out that I happened to test this during the only event which is actually timed: most the game can spread out as much as you want it to). This game also introduces shields and body armor on enemies in crowdfights and several new mechanics to make the predator mode more interesting. This better balances the gameplay between the two modes so that the predator sequences are less of a chore than before.

Where this game fails is in the scaling. As before, this game goes for difficulty mostly by increasing the number of enemies, rather than varying the environment or enemy behaviors, which can get boring (and annoying when you are almost finished with a crowd and another handful of goons stumble in to drag on the fight). As a consequence of the “hording” method of increasing difficulty, there are some boss fights that are downright hard because the way to beat the boss has little to do with the methods you have used. It is a little jarring to have a very easy game interspersed with frustrating moments where you can’t figure out how to win (though the game will prod you if you miss several of the Zelda-style boss vulnerability phases). Furthermore, the bonus round style riddler games can be much harder than the main game with little difficulty transition which may diminish the fun. The story is also worse than that of Arkham Asylum (in that it is less original), and though it introduces some new ideas feels more like a fragmented reason to cameo the biggest villains who didn’t get to appear in the last game. This is too bad, because the Batman franchise is ultimately successful only when it tells a compelling story.

In the end, this game is relatively better than Arkham Asylum in most respects. It is superlatively good compared to other 3rd person action games in some ways, and by the measure of whether I’ll remember it in the future has one or two memorable moments. It isn’t perfect, though and it may not warrant a second play-though, much 100% completion-seeking.

The sequel to one of the most beloved superhero games of all time, Batman: Arkham City brings a new open world to go along with many more overall improvements. But how does it stack up? In this review I will be giving my opinions and ratings on the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, Last Impressions, and this will be summed up in my final score.

    Gameplay: 9.5/10 - Arkham City
The sequel to one of the most beloved superhero games of all time, Batman: Arkham City brings a new open world to go along with many more overall improvements. But how does it stack up? In this review I will be giving my opinions and ratings on the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, Last Impressions, and this will be summed up in my final score.

    Gameplay: 9.5/10
    - Arkham City brings back the popular free flow combat system from the first game. New this time, is the open world "Arkham City" for you to explore. The game gives much more freedom than the first did and gliding through the skies never felt better. The scale feels much larger and with this, larger scale fights will also be apparent right from the start. Batman controls just as well as in the first game, and the game plays very much the same overall.

    Story: 9/10
    - Again an original story was made by Rocksteady, and again they delivered. The tale is dark and expansive, reappearing are some foes from the first game to go along with many new ones. The cutscenes are well done and the game tells an interesting story. The ending is a bold move by Rocksteady, one that I think will pay off.

    Sound: 8.5/10
    - Sound is good yet again, with excellent voice acting and music. Many of the sound effects are the same as the first game, which is to be expected when doing the same moves. Some of the common thugs you recycled voices, which can at times be very apparent.

    Graphics: 9/10
    - The game looks excellent, improved from the already great looking Arkham Asylum. Gameplay runs fluidly and with a much larger scale to the game, it is an impressive feat. Combat yet again looks seemless. Overuse of "Detective Mode" can really take away from the beauty of many areas, so take my advice and don't overuse it!

    Last Impressions:
    - Batman Arkham City is an excellent sequel, as well as an excellent standalone game. The original doesn't need to be played to understand this, but veteran Arkham players will enjoy the continuation of the Dark Knight's tale. The game is fun to play and tells a new story which Batman fans will enjoy. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the first game and to anyone who just likes Batman in general.

This game was a worthy winner of game of the year, it transcended its genre and really went that extra step to dele into the batman mythos and explain what he, his allies and villains were all about. Most importantly though, it expanded upon the story set out in Arkham Asylum and improved the interest and scope of the story with many new, exciting twists and boss battles that are both exciting and necessary. I feel that this game challenges the player and highlights the many aspects of the batman, as a crime fighter and detective and also as a fearsome, almost mythical figure who is all too human. Arkham City is a great credit to the batman franchise and is equally as well developed as it's storyline.

I feel that in order to give a 10 a game needs to be perfect, this game is not perfect, though nonetheless is very, very good. Though for me I enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed any other game, I feel that for the general user a 9/10 reflects the value of this game best.

Bigger and bolder and more expansive. More classic villains, and even introducing Cat Woman as a playable character with her own unique moves and abilities for a small part of the game. I will say that although 'Asylum' is still my favourite of these two, for reasons outlined in my Asylum review, this game is exceptional. Some will prefer the bigger scope, though for me, I really like Asylum as a classic example of what a more contained experience can be.

This time we have side missions introduced, nearly all of which don't feel tacked on to me, and many you can complete naturally during the main mission, or anytime at your leisure post-completion on your way to your Platinum / 100%. I enjoyed some of the mini challenges like the AR Bat-Clawing stuff, and, like Asylum, I respected that the post-game predator and combat challenges really made you 'master' the mechanics. For those going for the platinum achievement on this game, by the end you feel like you've really mastered all facets of this game, and is well worth pursing. If this is your first game of this nature you should now feel a more formidable gamer for other similar titles if you try them. For me, the 'ball-ache' moment this time, at least for a while was the Master Predator campaign. Campaigns were a new mode introduced that combined 3 predator and/or combat challenges into one campaign to complete, and you choose up to 3 modifiers that can make the challenges harder or easier.

For me, one downside on the base PS4 remaster is this does blue screen 'crash', and unlike Arkham I experienced some fps slow down on occasion, though for me, this happened during the combat challenges aka Riddler's revenge post-game, where we can have many many enemies on screen at once being pummeled. The PS4 just sort of gave up at one point. That said, it was still rare enough not to burn my experience. Bat-clawing around the city was very fun this time, and clearly a fore-bearer to the likes of what Insomniac did to arguably even better effect later on in Marvel's Spider-Man.

One other down-side is if you didn't enjoy collecting the Riddler trophies in Asylum, you really won't enjoy it here, because there are more of them, and some of them are taxing puzzlers. That said, again, getting them feels rewarding as you get very cool concept art, 3D character trophies, and Arkham lore stories for doing it all, and doing it all is a requirement for the Platinum / 100%. It's time consuming, but for a game like this, doing all this AND having to do a new game plus run I feel the game is one of the harder Platinums, but also that it deserves completing.

Wearing the mantle of the bat again, the story continues to make us feel like Batman himself!

The atmosphere of the game makes us always active, looking at every detail so we can unravel the mysteries that surround Arkham City. I believe that compared to its predecessor, Arkham City has slightly inferior graphics, however, more fluid mechanics and new types of blows and weapons.

Batman: Arkham City's somewhat messy story holds it down, but the story's truly impactful moments help it to be memorable and incredible regardless. Paired with an incredible evolution of Arkham Asylum's combat, a more open world to explore, and incredible side content that will keep you preoccupied for dozens of hours, Arkham City stands as a shining example of what open world games should be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Man I love this every since I was 9 years old getting this game not knowing what to expect it was such a beauty. First the stealth, stealth is one of the of the best qualities of this game the different ways you can takedown your enemies is so unique as well as the combos. It never stops amazing be how different fighting styles batman has learned. The best thing about this game was the story so compelling not knowing what to expect and it continues off Arkham asylum very well. The voice for every character did a fantastic job especially both Batman and Joker, The boss fights are good enough to keep me on my toes. And by far the best boss fight Mr freeze, finding new ways I've never tried taking down a person was so amazing and mr freeze learning of the same tricks makes you adapt to new ideas. Although I do like this game not a fan of the world it seems bland yet its a batman game so its somewhat expected. The introduction to other characters like Robin and catwoman was well executed. The plot twist of the joker dying was such a twist leaving me shocked of what batman ultimately did. 9/10 definitely would recommend this game Expand

The catwoman DLC is something i want to briefly touch on. Although it's not a bad addition to the game by any means, it isn't that great either. It gives more combat options and ways to traverse around the city which i find pretty neat. And the levels themselves aren't too bad, i don't think it's anything really special. It's a pretty good addition breaking the pacing between the main game just to take a break i guess. But i feel they could've done a lot more with this. What we got was fine, not taking away any points from this or anything. Just feel it could've been a bit better.

I don't wanna make this too long. So i'll slim this down by saying, some levels are pretty uninspiring and some plain boring. Some boss battles are really underwhelming. Riddler trophies are a damn pain. But altogether, amazing game and a classic.

The new gliding mechanics are amazing, with dive-bombing and grapnel boosts. Lots of upgrades to get with your skill points, and you can even play as Catwoman. My only problems with the game are that batman will randomly punch the air sometimes, guns do a crazy amount of damage, and there is a big portion of the map you can only enter via an underground passage, and so while gliding you have to go around it, which can be a hassle. It retains the core elements that made Arkham Asylum such a revelation, while expanding the series' ambition exponentially. The open world works excellently in Arkham City. Better yet, the way the limitations of it are actually written into the story is a stroke of genius. The world feels real and integral to the plot, rather than just a sandbox to swing around in. Likewise, the story's flow works brilliantly, with each villain having their own reasons to exist within the plot. Nothing feels shoehorned in and everything just seems natural. Just like Arkham Asylum, it really feels like a genuine Batman adventure. The pacing also deserves a mention; the game peaks at all the right moments and the end is, well, very climatic. Technically, the game looks beautiful and is one of the best looking titles on PS3. The controls and design are tight, rarely offering up problems (no mean feat in an open world game). Arkham City is such a perfect sequel that it's hard to see how the series can maintain it's momentum. How do you make a Batman game that moves the goalposts so spectacularly again? How do you make a Batman game where the open world makes so much sense again? It's going to take a magician to pull that one off, I think. So... Batman: Arkham City is a true, authentic Batman adventure and also a masterclass on how to do a videogame sequel right. But most of all, it's just really fun to play. Expand

I feel Arkham Asylum had better story telling because of the games linear progression, this element is lost in the open-world that Arkham City has created, however, it is an acceptable trade-off in my opinion because the open-world setting allows for much more content to be thrown in the mix with plenty of engaging side-missions to accompany the games main story. In addition to the side missions the city allows for a lot more hiding places for Riddler trophies if you're into collect-a-thons. If you have never played either game, I would recommend Arkham City over Arkham Asylum just because of the greater amount of content on offer. If you've played Arkham Asylum before, you may feel a little underwhelmed by this title, because as stated previously, its more or less the same. Expand

I am always dubious of scores of 10 - that would suggest the game is damn near perfect - it's not. For the most part, Arkham City is an enjoyable experience. Combat is somewhat repetitive, but the feeling of destroying countless foes as Batman definitely eases the repetition. The main story for me took about 5 hours, so it feels like a short game on the normal difficulty. It was a fun journey with some familiar faces from the batman series. I have not gotten around to side quests and collectibles just yet, but the story alone made this a truly unique game and a sure one to pick up

But everywhere in the game it's overkill, too many new combat moves, too many new gadgets (seriously the Justice League union reps better get on this because the Bats is taking away other super hero jobs!!!!), too many Riddler trophy challenges which just clutter up the landscape. This also shows itself in the main story line, trying to get too many of Batmans foes into the plot just left it disjointed, at times I felt lost. If you thought with all these guys getting into the plot it would be long, wrong, story is shorter then AA, but, with side missions and stuff the overall game is longer. Arkham Aslylums story is much better, Arkham Citys story isn't crap, it's just not as good. Arkham City (the map) is very nicely done and nice to look at, it's almost two worlds in one, with the upper rooftops feeling completely different then at street level. Aside from going overboard on combat moves, some of the new moves are great like 'the beatdown'. One real nice thing about AC is that it pretty much picks up right where AA left off, so you can play through AA and then roll right into AC without missing a beat. The Challenge mode has more types and more maps then AA did, and looks like it will be even harder to master. Overall I would say if you liked Arkham Asylum, then this is a must play. Expand

That game definitely worth to buy. Fun factor is awesome. Only game that IMO are better then this one so far this year are UC3 and Infamous 2.
Control are great once your used to them, which does not take long. Graphics are very nice. The story is fun and the combat is awesome.

Verdict: that game is really a must have

This game is a solid 8. It's got more depth than the first one, a better story, and Catwoman is playable! If you enjoyed the first one, this is a must have. The only real drawback to the game is the same as the first, it's FAR too short to charge $60 for. The game can be beat in 10-12 hours, that's with side quests. The option to start the story over after beating it with all of your upgrades is cool, but it's much more of a chore to play through the story again once you have seen it. I would suggest catching it on sale at Best Buy, or just waiting for the price to drop. Expand

Overall great game. It was just a little two short for my liking. But the story was top notch and the voice acting is just so good. Nolan North giving a great performance as The Penguin, and honestly what more can be said about Mark Hamills Joker other than legendary. I cant wait to see how the story continues.

Visually this game is stunning and swinging from roof top to roof top is as fun as leaping around the roofs on Assassins Creed. An excellent sequel to Arkham Asylum. All the fun from the first game is still here, with more objectives and a longer campaign. The inclusion of Catwoman was a nice touch, and adding Robin and Nightwing as DLC was great. The free roaming environment was nice, but a lot of travelling between objectives. Overall, a great game worth the money.

Firstly I believe it's an excellent game. There is a joy in diving off a building then firing your grappling gun and hooking to another building's roof at the last minute, to swoop up and start the process all over again, rendering walking and running redundant. The combat is well judged, not relying on button-bashing like Tekken or Street Fighter. The radar and way-point markers are good, I love the mist-ridden bat symbols that guide you to a way-point or an objective. The chance to play an additional character, as I enjoyed doing in L.A. Noire, again proves to be fun, especially when she is in the sexy figure of Catwoman, and with Nightwing to come... Expand

Arkham City is the best reflection of the Batman-comic books ever. Not because of the sheer amount of famous enemies that challenge our hero, but thanks to the amazing atmosphere that oozes from every pore of this remarkable action game. [Nov 2011, p.70]

All in all, outside of a few minor issues, I couldn't ask for a better Batman experience. If Arkham City was a graphic novel, it would be considered a classic.
