Official U.S. Playstation MagazineA grueling 81 stages of the World Rally Championship await you, all modeled using satellite topography and some of the finest graphics you'll have seen on the PS2 yet. [June 2002, p.101]
-
This one should raise eyebrows worldwide as one of the real sleepers this year.
-
Eye-numbing visuals, easy to pick up driving, excellent stage design, and more modes and secrets than you can shake a stick at, Evolution Studios have created a monster.
-
In additional to being visually stunning, WRC nicely captures the excitement and the general feel of rally racing and will surely appeal to diehard rally fans and newcomers alike.
-
[An] exceptional rally game--one that has no equal on the PlayStation 2.
-
Theres no doubt that World Rally Championship is the best rally game on the PS2 to date, but it will also disappoint as many people as it impresses.
-
"Rallisport Challenge" may have the game beat in terms of multiplayer and graphics, but WRC PS2 gives a better representation of rally racing in the real world.
-
Games RadarA balls-out, seat-of-your-pants ride that shows the lesser known motor sport of rallying in all its rugged glory. At the very least, the most brutal racer on PS2 yet. [PSM2 Magazine]
-
This one though is probably the most realistic driving experiences you can get, short of painting ads for Castrol GTX on your Escort and driving round Box Hill at speed.
-
Simply the best rally game for the PS2, and directly in competition with Rallisport for the hearts and minds of rally racing.
-
It's got great track variety, quality graphics, and a bevy of options.
-
Navigating through the twists and turns in such diverse environments is exhilarating.
-
A slightly bizarre mixture of realism and fantasy. All of the attention paid to replicating the courses and cars doesnt seem to have been applied to the actual game and its mechanics, racing takes on more of an arcade like feel, whilst there isnt that much depth to the actual goings on behind the scenes.
-
PSM MagazineThe graphics are pretty outstanding. [May 2002, p.32]
-
Game InformerI had a hard time putting it down, although I'd probably pick up Xbox's "RalliSport" first if it came down to the two of them. [June 2002, p.79]
-
Racing along bumpy gravel or icy roads at breakneck speeds is a great thrill, despite some unrealistic collision mechanics.
-
Whilst the game might handle like a superlative arcade racer from each dynamic moment to the next, it neither looks nor behaves like one in any real, wider sense...it's far too concerned with vainly struggling to be a simulation.
-
Boring...plain as an old Rich Tea biscuit, and just as dry.
-
It's a few visual tweaks, collision-detection issues and A.I. adjustments away from being outstanding.
-
With all of this attention to detail, the actual gameplay is too simple.
-
I would not recommend this to anyone new to the genre. Play "GT3: A-Spec" instead - it costs the same amount and is a much, much better experience.
