Easily one of the best PC-style role-playing games to ever grace a console.
-
In the world of flashier, harder hitting and more Hollywood style presentation of role-playing games, Wizardry may get lost in the labyrinth.
-
An obsessive-compulsive's dream.
-
If you are from the era when Falco was considered cool and "Return of the Jedi" had just been released, then I heartily recommend this game to you.
-
Unlike current RPGs that seem to be basking in the straight forwardness and over doing the story elements, Wizardry instead gives you one of the longest and biggest dungeons you will ever face.
-
If you'd like a meaty dungeon-crawl experience, though, this is a surprisingly good one, and a pleasant nostalgia trip for those of us who haven't played a game like this in a dog's age.
-
Wizardry is still fun in its own way, but you should be prepared for a very slow-paced affair with a sparse story and few bells and whistles.
-
Game InformerAs horrendous as this game may appear to be, I actually found my self somewhat engrossed. [Feb 2002, p.85]
-
PSM MagazineSuffers from two major problems: its gameplay can get tedious, and the story progresses very slowly. [Feb 2002, p.44]
-
A few fresh ideas, but unfortunately theyre buried under a lot of old, archaic pieces of gameplay that really should have been fazed out a long time ago all crammed into a slow plodding package.
-
netjakEvery character has a good, neutral, or evil status. However, these statuses are jokingly trivial, as they have no bearing on the story and change simply by choosing to attack friendly creatures or not. Seriously, it is hard to see why this is even included in the game.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineIf you can get past the basic setup, a great, pure role-playing adventure awaits. [Feb 2002, p.114]
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyAll Wizardry really has to offer is a lengthy maze. You're going to be trudging through the labyrinth 'till your hair turns gray. [Feb 2002, p.158]
-
A PlayStation generation brought up on a steady diet of "Final Fantasy" RPG's might not be ready for a trip back to the days when an RPG dared its players NOT to get lost within the labyrinth of its dungeons.
