With a comprehensive (and more importantly, rather good) multiplayer game complementing the rather hard campaign mode, Ghost Recon 2 is at least heading in the right direction now - and for the moment that's good enough for us.

Rejects all the good Ghost Recon trademarks, like free-form missions and a decent save system. This does not affect the robust multiplayer game, though. [Jan. 05]
  3. Military obsessives will love it and, providing those who play it are prepared to put in the time required to learn its quirks and foibles, they should be rewarded with a fairly satisfying experience.
  4. It’s obvious that the graphics-heavy Clancy games are tailored toward the beefier Xbox console, and the PS2 versions ported strictly for sales dollars. On the Xbox, Ghost Recon 2 rocks – on the PS2 however, it just doesn’t measure up.

The linear missions and worthless squad AI were my biggest issues with this game. [Feb 2005, p.116]
  6. A flawed experience from start to finish, Ghost Recon 2 on the PS2 has its share of really good action-packed moments, but its glitches are just too hard to ignore.

A brave sequel that tries a little too hard... Its lack of accessibility will annoy "Rainbow Six 3" die-hards, while the new direction will leave fans of the original feeling rather cold. [Christmas 2004, p.102]

Longtime fans of the series will hate this game. Action buffs will dismiss it in favor of a multitude of other titles, and online fanatics will snicker at its lacking competitive and cooperative modes.
  9. 60
The game feels a bit rushed, as if it could have used a few months more in developments, particularly when it comes to balancing some of the combat.
  10. Instead of making improvements, the development team made a game to appeal to a different crowd than their original audience, and I honestly don’t think the decision was a good one.

Lobotomized teammates, restrictive environments, and enemies with X-ray vision make it necessary to memorize entire levels. [Feb 2005, p.90]
  12. Unlike the other Tom Clancy titles for PlayStation 2, which were absolute gems, Ghost Recon 2 is an almost abysmal effort. It's hard to believe Ubisoft published this game, let alone green-lighted it for final production in the shape it's in.
  13. PSM Magazine

Enemy AI that changes with the wind and level design that's inspired by tunnel vision drops this game into the lower echelon of military shooters. [Feb 2005, p.83]
  14. Just not that interesting of a game.
  15. Fails to live up to the lofty expectations of its own brand thanks to simplistic gameplay, lackluster presentation, a lack of co-op play, and an overall dearth of polish.
  16. An inferior product. This is a linear, action-oriented shooter that has precious little in common with the original game's realistic and tactical squad-based combat.
  17. Two years after its predecessor conclusively proved it Ghost Recon 2 reaffirms it: the PS2 doesn't have the RAM to do justice to Red Storm's intense A.I. routines and team-based gameplay justice.
  18. I'm really surprised how poorly Ghost Recon 2 for the PlayStation 2 turned out. Uninspiring level design, terrible squad AI and minimal multiplayer support all contribute to a frustrating and ultimately dull gaming experience.
  19. It's a tactical, team-based online shooter that isn't very tactical, is only technically team-based, and has broken netcode. What do you think?
  20. Electronic Gaming Monthly
    37
An extremely frustrating, poorly programmed mess. [Feb 2005, p.106]
  21. So many things in this game are either unpolished or retarded that it’s hard to care about the subject matter.
