If players can get past the clumsy menu system and uninspired graphics, theyll find themselves a great game.
-
The Legend of Alon D'ar goes for the big story (which is lame in its own way) and the big RPG feeling - but falls short on both counts.
-
Game InformerIf there's a legend here, it's that this title fails to raise your heartbeat in almost any way. [Mar 2002, p.79]
-
The faces of the characters, including your lead, Jarik, seem disfigured and unattractive - definitely not even close to seeming geared towards a PS2 system.
-
Even though I found myself wanting to get from story point to story point, the quest between proved to be just too boring and much too tedious to overlook.
-
Diluted, saucy graphics, aggravating camera angles, a crappy combat system and questionable controls make LoAD not a whole lot more than its acronym suggests.
-
While a good story can sometimes save even the most mediocre of RPGs, and The Legend of Alon D'ar does provide a compelling beginning and plot, the pacing is so slow that only the most patient will make it through to the end.
-
Next Generation MagazineFew things are more tedious than a "sprawling RPG" without any real wit, style, or engaging characters. [Dec 2001, p.108]
-
Of course misery loves company. So call up someone you hate, and invite them over for hours of terminal and ponderous gaming. Whee!
-
Although it features reasonably unique character designs, interesting concepts, and a huge explorable world, Legend of Alon D'ar fails in execution with substandard quality in nearly every respect.
-
Whatever you do, don't buy Alon D'ar.
-
The title moves along at a swift 60 fps to make for a very fluid travel experience. The frame rate does come at an expense. To put it bluntly, the characters look like well textured Legos. When the character zooms in for in-game cinemas the characters true blocky form is revealed.
-
If you like punishment or enjoy suffering through hours of boring quests and downright horrible fighting, then by all means go out and purchase this stinker at once. Theres so much wrong with this game its hard to pinpoint exactly what makes it awful as it is.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineThe real-time battle system is such a mess that youll get either incredibly bored or overwhelmed in no time. [Mar 2002, p.108]
