    This game is great everyone whose played it at my house love it a great game although the vehicles are quite strong but rockets can destroy them overall it's a great game buy it

    Best Star Wars game ever, and one of the best on the PS2. It's dirt cheap now so buy it. DICE is making a new Battlefront, so yeah, it's going be be awesome (just pray to God that EA won't screw it up).

    This is the game that all video gamer Star Wars fans have been waiting for. We have been given the opportunity to take part in the epic battles we saw in the movies as well as having the change to drive the great vehicles as well.

    The game's graphics are decent overall. There are shining points in the game's visuals, enviornments are varied, explosions look good and all, but it just looks overall average.     The maps in battlefront are very well designed and no match fell into a particular pattern. The controls are great and easy to get used to. Even the vehicles are easily controlled. The mechanics such as vehicle driving, shooting, and using strategy is great. The AI is decent, but have their stupid moments. In terms of content, there's only conquest, but there is such diversity with gameplay like character classes that it doesn't matter. You can turn the Jedi on giving a battle commander feel to it. And, some maps have secondary things to assault such as the tecno union ships, shield bunker, and the shield generator. You can play with 16 players online, and with bots added in to command and lead a squad you can have 32 soldiers on one map. So if 16 players isn't enough, just add some bots. There are sixteen maps and the classes are well balanced. The maps are so large that each map is equal to two or three medium sized maps found in other shooters. Galatic conquest provides more strategy than instant action, and the historical campaign will unlock new movies to watch on your gamesystem. There's tons of vehicles to drive and plenty of weapons to use.
    The verdict-8 Battlefront is a real surprise. What it does it does well. The game's graphics and AI may be average, but don't let that stop you from buying this great game.    … Expand

    This is my favorite Star Wars game. I loved that for the first time, you could be put right into the action in the Star Wars universe. I have the PC version, which has tons of mods available, which gives this game even more replay value.

    All Star Wars fans should play this game if they haven't already.

    This is such a great game i dont know were to start; great graphics, good control, excellent war simulacion and atmosphere, You feel part of a larger battle and the A.I is competent covering each other with good support, If you are reading the end of this get of your ass and go buy one. NOW!!

    Agreed with several other comments, I don't understand why anybody would like this soul-less game. That's exactly the point though, it isn't a game, it's a simulator... the game isn't fun so much as it is simply there. I wanted to love this so much that I actually owned (temporarily) all three platforms... and in each it is the same...     I dont get what all the fuss is about - Its very difficult to get in to this game - you just feel like a spare part running around trying to figure out what is going on. i dont understand how all the reviews have negative things to say but give such high scores - its obvoius the game was rused to come out with the DVD release.

    ok game......sadly my friend is not the brightest in video game system taste....he insults the wii a lot...i dont see why he says that when hes the person that owns a ps2 no pffense to all the ps2 owners out there.....the ps2 was a legend once upon a time like the gamecube the n64......either ways the game itself has decent graphics for a ps2.....also the multi player is fun....however theok game......sadly my friend is not the brightest in video game system taste....he insults the wii a lot...i dont see why he says that when hes the person that owns a ps2 no pffense to all the ps2 owners out there.....the ps2 was a legend once upon a time like the gamecube the n64......either ways the game itself has decent graphics for a ps2.....also the multi player is fun....however the machines and tanks could be better especilly the turrets.......and it feals horrible when your battling a tank on fot and you dont have any weapons that could do real effective damage except a rocket luncher....well obviously you bring down the tank....while your doing that your opponent steps out of the tank and mowes you down with a rifle while you only habe one shot to kill your opponent.....and your opponent could easly dodge the rocket...howevrr i like the games rocket launcher lock on ability......it also is lame how you cant kill jedis in story mode....overall the ame is ok.......… Expand

    One of my favourite games of all time, but I want to review number 2 now so i'll quickly tell you why. You aren't a jedi, killing a jedi however makes you feel like the worlds biggest badass. It has spaceships on ground which number 2 didn't have as it made it too easy to just bomb everywhere. You control an army on the best places in the universe. Its just perfect ok?

    I can't say something very important which is both wrong about this, but I don't know why there is not the possibility of playing with Jedi. It should be an important feature, but, thankfully, that's in the second game. Good gameplay for that time, nice graphics and levels that connect one to each other.

    Thrilling environments but the vehicles are way too hard and the weapons make u feel as though they are majorly underpowered. multiplayer is a crack, worth a look.

    The only bad thing about the game is u cant use a lightsaber, though the programmers prob would have stuffed it up so maybe its a good thing.

    This game is great. You have to give the game a couple of hours to truly feel what the creators are trying to present to you. I'd give it a 10 but the flying vehicles need help. All else is excellent!

    Graphics are really great at least on PC version (for those who disagree go spend more than 200$ on a video card) I'd give it 9 for graphics. Game plays really smooth, controls are relatively good (PC version!) Gameplay is repetitive but IT WAS MADE SO, If you didn't read a review before you got it it's your problem.     Yes this game has many problems....but it also has the battles from the two trilogys and emerses you into that world. If you are looking for a pioneering online shooter, look elsewhere. If you want to have fun and play a good game then get this game....but i would say onliy if you have broadband.

    A great game. The battle scenes are great and you really get the feeling that you actually taking part in all the Star Wars movies. This is the one we've all been waiting for. Excellent

    This is a truly great game. Even the casual gamer can pick it up and play for hours without getting bored. The graphics are great, the control is tight, the vehicles are amazing...This is one of the best games I have ever played.

    Some games just get everything right! Incredible action and gameplay. Thing BF:1942 in the star wars universe. The Only negative is most maps are too small for aerial combat.

    I really did enjoy this game. It was fun multiplayer is fun it's all fun with lots of factions and everything it's just a simple fun little game. Yet that doesn't stop it from getting repetitive after a few weeks or maybe months it gets old but every so often it kicks back and starts being great again but it's really a great game best part is the multiplayer. I loved the idea of being a soldier in a Star Wars battle and it was a very creative idea. I thought the game was like a combination of Risk and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness; both good games. It was good times while it lasted, but that wasn't very long at all. Galactic Conquest was pretty interesting and mixed up the gameplay with planetary bonuses. There were a few things I thought could be better, though. The vehicles made you look like you are hammered and they blew up too easily. Also, it was too short and didn't have enough maps. Some of the maps, like Kashyyyk: Docks, gave the enemy massive vehicles (that took way to many hits to destroy, mind you), while you had nothing of the sort. Furthermore, I cannot believe nobody noticed the droidekas! They are the win of the battle for the Trade Federation Army most every time. They have a impenetrable shield that can be put up for like 30 seconds and put down for like 7. They are pretty much invincible turrets on wheels! Overall, a great strategic game (except when your team doesn't catch on to your strategy) and I can't wait to play Star Wars: Battlefront II because I definitely craved more from this title!… Expand

    A Very fun game, very fun multiplayer - on split screen and online - the campaign is nothing special though. The vechicles are very cool to ride in as well. The locations are neat as they are classic star wars planets such as hoth, naboo, bespin and kasheke.

    Very good SW game, has quite a few things the sequel is unfortunately missing, and as a result stands out as its own game that can be played without the sequel completely replacing it.

    I am surprised at the critic scores and user scores I expected 9 from users and +90 from critics, great game! Loved everything about it much better then the second in my opinion, so many great memories of trying to beat the game and all the levels Loved Naboo soo fun to play, If you want a game to play with your friends this is defenitely the one

Luckily this is among the many good Star Wars games out there. It's a team based multiplayer shooter that you can choose to play in either first person or third person. There are three different game modes: historical campaign, galactic conquest, and instant action. Campaign is basically the story mode. You choose whether to play through the clone wars era, or the galactic empire era. So if you've seen the movies you know the story. They just explain the context of each battle in a cutscene before it happens. Galactic conquest is where you choose a faction ( rebels droids clones empire) and take over each planet throughout the galaxy through series of battles. Each planet you take over grants an offensive of defensive advantage. Instant action just let's you pick your planets right away and start the battle as it states. But no matter which game mode you play, the battles will always play the same making it lack diversity. It's always the same objective to win each battle. When the battle starts, you pick a side, pick a class, and there are 2 ways to win. Either kill every enemy or capture all command posts which serve as spawn points for whichever team holds them. So it's a mix between death match and objective based game types. There are a lot of awesome vehicles you can use such as spider droids, TIE fighters and republic gunships. Each map is like sandbox where you can go anywhere which really adds a lot of strategy. Also at the end of each battle you get to see some interesting and entertaining statistics about each player. The graphics are rather average for 2004, but all the planets look the way they should and how you would imagine. Sometimes there are weird texture glitches, but it's not that big of a deal. So if you want a game that let's you relive the Star Wars battles your way, than this is a must have. If your not a Star Wars fan but still like competitive multiplayer shooters, than I still think you should buy this game.… Expand

    I wish that you could kill Jedi in this game, they were too overpowered. The only thing you could do to kill one was to run them over with a speeder..

The targeting and radar systems are good enough, but the missile lock-on systems are somewhat hard to use. You can fight as four sides, each with benefits and downsides.

    Rebels: While the Rebellion lacks some of the firepower of the Empire, they have the best starfighters in the entire game. Their special unit, the Wookie Smuggler, can drop time bombs and shoot several enemies at once.

    Empire: One of the best features of the Imperials is the ability to play as walkers- including the AT-AT, which can be used on Hoth and Rhen Var.

    Republic: This group focuses mostly on heavy weapons, with armored tanks, walkers, and gunships at their disposal. They are very similar to the Imperials, but have better starfighters.

    CIS (Trade Federation): Their vehicles are some of the worst in the game, but they make up for it with their droid soldiers. For the first time ever, you can play as the lethal Droideka, also known as the Destroyer Droid, from Episode 1.

    There are only two real downsides to this game. The first is that you can only battle within your side's Era. For example, the Rebellion can not fight the CIS in a battle. Also, every mode of gameplay is almost exactly the same- you must kill enemy soldiers and capture their Command Posts - so the game can get repetitive at times.     So many games fail to achieve the successive stories of the movies they are based upon. The feel for the realism just isn't for gaming. Star Wars: Battlefront does the impossible by supplying the player(s) with the most intensive and a truly lifelike feel towards whichever side you're on as you try and stop the invading team from taking over. It helps that the scenery is dead on; as if it was literally pulled from any movie clip. This game is to Star Wars enthusiasts as oxygen is for survival. It's a no brainer that this game series is still in the works and might be for years to come.… Expand

    this game isn't as good as the sequel but it is still brilliant. when i bought the trilogy box set it had a demo on it for the PC, I prefer to play Playstation 2 games but i tried it anyway, the next day i went straight out to buy it! This is definitely one of the best games on the market. Star wars games tend to be somewhat...Crud, but this broke the mold. The graphics are awesome and the game play is great the only thing that prevents this game from getting a full 10 stars is that you can't play as Jedi or Sith. My favourite planet to play on is kashyyk and i love playing as a wookie. Do your self a favour and get this game or Battlefront II because they are both awesome!    … Expand

    Un juego excelente con el cual en Play 2 podías pasarte horas con un amigo, ya sea trolleando o jugando en serio. Para ser de 2004 tiene muy buenos graficos y jugabilidad, a si como buen sonido y animaciones. Ademas es una saga interesante y entretenida. Muy buen juego .

    Surprisingly, it has better controls and graphics than Battlefront 2. The maps are all perfect, I spent hundreds of hours playing this with my dad. Great memories.

    9.5 - Epic coop shooter. Has very memorable maps specifically Bespin and Kashyyyk which are very detailed and nice-looking. There is simply no shooter like it.

    One of the few games that made me feel like a freaking hero, shooting people and invading places in absolutely epic way.
