  1. I understand that designing a game that accurately portrays Spidey's gracefulness is a difficult task, but in previous games the right “feel” wasn't represented. This is the area where Spider-Man: The Movie makes the biggest jump.

As much as I enjoyed the aerial combat, its overuse makes the innovative gameplay element a little less exhilarating toward the end. [June 2002, p.96]
  3. One could nitpick the title for what it doesn’t deliver, but what it does deliver is pretty amazing; a highly playable movie-licensed superhero game! Who woulda thunk it?
  4. Addicting and there are tons of unlockable items for gamers to come back to.

    [It] offers giddily satisfying gameplay.
  6. For once, gamers can play as Spiderman and use all of his awesome techniques while experiencing few problems along the way.

While a number of the same issues pop up with regard to cameras, control and whatnot, Spider-Man is an excellent action game that's easy to pick up and play again and again.

The game doesn't last that long, but you'll be constantly entertained. [June 2002, p.60]
  9. The inside levels feel confined and just lack the excitement of the excellently implemented exterior sections. That said the internal sections are not all that bad, it’s just a case of wishing for something slightly different.
  10. While Spider-Man for the PS2 has its fair share of faults, it simply does so many things right, that you can't help but be sucked in by the experience.

A decent if flawed game that despite the great licence can’t help but wallow in its own mundane, self-inflicted faults. What we are left with is an altogether average game.

Just another middling third-person action game that falls prey to the fatal flaw that fells so many of its ilk: a bad camera system. [June 2002, p.79]

Surprisingly, the game features actual voice actors from the film. Rarely does a game get one, let alone an entire cast of Hollywood personalities supplying voice content for it.
  14. Questionable camera controls, choppy graphics and sometimes frustrating gameplay are all but forgiven in the context of the rest of the game’s charms.
  15. The outdoor levels are much more fun and enjoyable than the indoor levels--so much that the game could have been considerably better had there simply been more of the former and less of the latter.

If you can live with the load times, and don't mind avoiding Kraven, give this game a try; it's a spideriffic and mostly commendable effort.
  17. What this boils down to is fun aerial levels being broken up all to often by boring ground levels.

Aside from the obvious graphics enhancements and some minor new gameplay additions, it doesn't accomplish much more than its PSone predecessors did. In fact, in some minor ways, it's worse. [July 2002, p.38]
  19. The camera issues will frustrate more than a few players. The variety of missions is a plus, but the casualty is a lack of cohesiveness.
  20. The combat, mission objectives, controls and camera are often working in tandem against you, which is obviously frustrating to the point where it’s eventually not worth playing to get the heaps of extras you can unlock after beating the game.
  21. Electronic Gaming Monthly

The repetition and generally dated gameplay kept me from ever getting overly excited about playing it. [July 2002, p.118]

Given that you can walk on walls, swing rapidly in different directions, and crawl through tight spaces, programming a good camera system can be quite difficult. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work well indoors.
  23. This PS2 version is the least likely to be asked to the Prom. Compared to the others, Spidey's PS2 world is grainy with jagged edges. There is a lot of noticeable slowdown from numerous onscreen NPCs.
  24. If you can get past the stealth sections of Spider-Man, there is plenty to enjoy.
  25. Voiceovers by Bruce Campbell and some excellent unlockable features just aren’t enough to make this game worthwhile. Watch the movies or read the comic instead.

Yeah the movie was incredible , the game is awful by some big flaws. Too start with , the camera is annoying and frustrating, very crazy. TheYeah the movie was incredible , the game is awful by some big flaws. Too start with , the camera is annoying and frustrating, very crazy. The objectives feel uninspired and simple, too plain, flat. The story is great adding the more content with the villains that we know from Mr spidey. is perfect kids, for adults, maybe. Full Review »

I also laughed a lot at Spidey and other's comical quips. Full Review »

Definitely the best way to play Spiderman (2002) on the playstation 2.
Following the main plot of the film with added villains and side plots, this game set the benchmark for movie-tie in games. Playing as Spiderman is the most fun it's been since Spiderman 2:enter electro, the combat is refined from Spiderman ps1 outings yet more expansive too. On the harder difficulties waves of enemies are a real threat and every boss fight is a memorable joy forcing you to understand how best to control everyone's favourite Web slinger.
Also you can play as the green goblin which is just the coolest f***ing thing ever.
