If his mission fails, control of the world's Atomic technology will fall into the hands of Stalin and the Soviet Army, throwing the world's political climate into chaos. In the undercover mission, players utilize their sniper training to gain access to key positions by taking out machine guns, armored vehicles, guard posts and sentries through stealth and pinpoint accuracy. Like a true sniper, players must follow their wits and instincts and utilize both first and third-person perspectives to negotiate through 28 open-ended levels in war-torn Berlin. In taking aim at enemy soldiers, players need to consider gravity, wind speed, heart rate, breathing and posture to successfully hit their target in one of the most authentic sniping mechanics ever devised. Players can even take up the fight or go head-to-head with a friend in the cooperative or competitive offline play modes, or even engage in a game of worldwide cat-and-mouse with up to eight players online. With four skill levels, awesome co-op multiplay, online play, and a ton of game-modifying options, Sniper Elite belongs on your hit list. [Nov 2005, p.80]

It's SOCOM meets Hitman and it makes lying in the rubble of a blown-out rathaus a tense, exciting and deeply satisfying pastime.
  3. There is a little bit of “Medal of Honor” here and some “SOCOM” as well, but really this game has an identity all its own with a unique mood and feel. It isn’t the most challenging war title I’ve ever played but it is one of the grittiest.

Though Sniper Elite doesn't do anything revolutionary, it's a fun game greatly aided by its expanded gameplay options.
  5. The realism may turn off some run and gun gamers, but even those fans will have a hard time not appreciating what Sniper Elite brings to the table in terms of great and entertaining game play.
  6. Wins points for originality, and the gameplay works well, but it lacks a compelling narrative (the disjointed mission objectives don't cut it), and it rarely made me feel as tense as I thought it should. [Nov 2005, p.117]
  7. So while Sniper Elite is tense and fairly riveting, it's never exciting or completely satisfying. The game feels like a chore to play through and the concept is just too limited to be truly enjoyable. [PSW]

This game is not for those with ADD. However if like something with a little more tactics and strategy rather than a typical run and gun FPS This game is not for those with ADD. However if like something with a little more tactics and strategy rather than a typical run and gun FPS then this is for you. There are enough FPS out there for those who want action, but there should be more games like this one that require steath, tactics and skill. It rocks! Expand

Definately going to prove different for the better on FPS Sniper games. Expand

I did not play this game all the way through, as I didn't find it enjoyable enough to warrant spending the time required to do so. I did not play this game all the way through, as I didn't find it enjoyable enough to warrant spending the time required to do so. Player movement feels strange, and weapons other than the sniper rifle seem badly implemented. Given that the camoflage system is unclear at best, the lack of useable automatic weapons is a problem. The graphics are nothing special, often look very bland, and bear very little resemblance to Berlin, with the exception of a few set piece levels based on landmarks such as the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. I certainly doubt that a resident of pre-war Berlin would be able to find his or her way around this recreation, as the developers claimed in several interviews. If you have a PC, then you are much better off with something like Hidden and Dengerous 2. Expand
