    Resident Evil 4 on the Playstation 2 is how I grew up with this game, and this was my childhood favorite and is still my favorite game of all time. This game is amazing: it has extremely wonderful gameplay mechanics that are satisfying and fun to play through all the time, with varied enemies and weapons seriously offering dozens of playthroughs worth for replayability. The story is cheesyResident Evil 4 on the Playstation 2 is how I grew up with this game, and this was my childhood favorite and is still my favorite game of all time. This game is amazing: it has extremely wonderful gameplay mechanics that are satisfying and fun to play through all the time, with varied enemies and weapons seriously offering dozens of playthroughs worth for replayability. The story is cheesy but doesn't feel cheesier than a good action movie, and the graphics at the time were stylish and really helped create a blend of horror and action. The sections are rememberable and you can tell this game was perfectly crafted. Unfortunately, this port is really just not the most amazing version of the game with long loads, poorer graphics than the Gamecube version, and slowdown on the framerates but of course, I didn't notice this stuff until I actually grew up. If you are looking to play this game and get that retro feel I would recommend the Gamecube version, but this is still an amazing game. The PS2 version though is definitely the worst version with again, horrendous graphics and visual quality, really long loads for simply the inventory, and choppy framerates that hinder the gameplay quite a bit on this version.… Expand

    RE4 has changed the gaming landscape forever. It was a such a blast to go through. I finished this game so many times than I can count. I love the change it brought to the series even tho it's a departure from the much beloved RE formula. But it was a revolution that was bigger than the RE franchise itself and I appreciate it for it. The additions to this version were great

    I seriously question why it took me this long to finally finish playing Resident Evil 4. I have certainly known about the game pretty much since its initial run and I have attempted to play it multiple times, but for whatever reason I just now decided to hunker down and finish it. Better late than never, and I'm glad I did. It can be easy to go into a game like this thinking, "Oh, it can'tI seriously question why it took me this long to finally finish playing Resident Evil 4. I have certainly known about the game pretty much since its initial run and I have attempted to play it multiple times, but for whatever reason I just now decided to hunker down and finish it. Better late than never, and I'm glad I did. It can be easy to go into a game like this thinking, "Oh, it can't be THAT good", because like, say, Ocarina of Time, everybody and their distant uncle has sung this game's praises over the moon for over 15 years, but no. RE4 really is an amazing achievement in modern gaming, and one whose influence is still clearly felt to this very day.

    Rookie cop turned government agent Leon S. Kennedy has been tasked with traveling to a remote European village in search of the President's missing daughter Ashley Graham. Immediately upon arrival, however, he is greeted by a hoard of blood-thirsty villagers, infected by a parasite known as Las Plagas. Now, in addition to rescuing Ashley, he'll need to put a stop to this virus and the people responsible for releasing it. If you thought that Resident Evil stories were campy and over-the-top before, RE4 full-out embraces its cheese. It is an incredibly dumb plot with lots of illogical, death-defying moments and cartoonish villains that, really, you can't help but enjoy. Even as schlock, there was a lot of love that went into making this work as evident by the solid, campy voice acting. The creators are fully aware of this, and thus you can appreciate this game for what it is. If you were ever worried about walking into this game without any prior RE experience, continuity isn't too big of an issue here and instead works well as a stand-alone horror action game.

    Speaking of action, this was one of the biggest changes made to RE's formula. The series had been leaning into this direction as early as RE2, but RE4 is the game that went full ham on the concept. While not the first game to utilize an over-the-shoulder 3rd Person perspective, this was the game that made it the standard. Structurally, it still is classic RE at its core. You still have tank controls, you explore the environment for items and ammo, solve the occasional puzzle and defeat a boss every so often. However, whereas you were encouraged to avoid enemies when necessary (and you are still encouraged to conserve ammo), RE4 wants you to obliterate everything and everyone. Most enemies you defeat drop valuable loot, like gold coins to purchase new weapons from the local merchant, ammo and other item pick-ups, and RE4's combat is immensely satisfying because of it. That, and it's always fun to stun your enemies, run up to them and give them a good old roundhouse kick to the face, and then follow up with slashes from your knife. You'll be squaring off against a good variety of enemies, from simple farmers, to machine gun-toting infected soldiers to whatever parasitic monstrosity you come across. While the bosses have a lot of spectacle, most are very simple to take down (and that's without using a rocket launcher on them). You'll be offered a wide variety of potent weapons that you can upgrade and just go to town with, and half of the fun was just seeing what new weapons will be available for you to try out. Once you are done with the main campaign there is still plenty more to do, like a couple of extra campaign modes and the Mercenaries mini-game. It would be an outright lie to say RE4 lacks value and content.

    While RE4 was certainly the most linear game in the series up to this point, exploration is still a key component. You'll be scavenging for not only ammo and healing items, but also for rare treasures to sell. Plus, it's just worth exploring just for the game's atmosphere. While not as handsome as the GameCube version, the PS2 version visually is no slouch. Puzzle solving, on the other hand, takes a massive backseat in favor of its action. If there are any real criticisms I have against this game, it would be the lax use of puzzles and the rather dated QTEs, but these are really minor marks against the game.

    The only other thing I can say about this game is that it really is as great as everyone says, and its no wonder this has been ported to darn near everything you can think of. This is an easy recommendation to anybody wanting to get into the series, and just for horror buffs and action junkies in general.    … Expand

    My favorite game in the Resident Evil franchise it's non stop action kept me on my toes the entire time and I loved the story. If it had real horror moments it would've been a 10 out of 10 game but I still give it a 9 for everything else.

    This was my first Resident Evil. I never bought those before because I found them ugly but this was revolutionary at the time. A completely new control system, fantastic graphics and above all an engaging and quite long-lived story. Needless to say, I've been playing for a long time and squeezed my poor PS2.

It was my first game of the franchise and I absolutely loved it and got blown away. I played through it four times in a row, no break. Two times on normal, two times on pro. The game has so many little things that make it satisfying. Bosses are great, enemy hordes make you sweat, opening the menu and inventory makes you catch breath and think about your next move, treasures are satisfying due to the combination possibility, every weapon feels useful in its own way and the game overall is a masterpiece in my opinion, hence the score of 9/10. Recommended for everyone, beginne rin the franchise or fan, when not minding its differences to the original series.… Expand

    Some consider this game the GOAT for the franchise , and yes I agree that it is one hell of a game I dont think its the goat , not even leons best story , but this game gave us iconic characters , a great story and I think this was the first game to have the way better over the shoulder camera. Great game

    As a person who used to play this game back in the PS2 days i can confirm this was one of the best PS2 games i have ever played, even though it’s getting a bit out dated now but it’s still supreme in its level design, story telling, villains and game mechanics till this day

    Tiene limitaciones de movimiento, pero eso en lugar de ser malo, sirve para tomarse con más cautela ciertas situaciones y exigirá que usemos    Juegazo de acción indispensable.     A complete masterpiece. Gameplay is so addictive. So addictive you don’t even care about the mediocre story. The crappy dark lore makes up for it. So much content. So worth buying it for its price.

This game's got a simple story. we have to rescue the president's daughter ashley graham while she gets kidnapped over 4 or 5 times and there is nothing special about it B U T the gameplay ... boy oh boy the gameplay is just FANTASTIC. I don't know what kind of magic the gameplay of this game has but it is just f*cking FAN_TASTIC that it made me beat the game 2 freacking times in a row nonstoply.… Expand

    In contrast with the classic ones, this one has brought us some more action, instead of being threatened, you are now the threat. Graphics and ambiance are near perfect, and the dark feeling caused by the scenarios are also the essential part. Both fun and desperate to experience. Definitely a must play.

    I was 8 when RE4 first came out, too young to play, but old enough to watch my granddad play it, the story, the designs , the gameplay. All phenomenal. I miss you granddad and cherish the many games and times we spent gaming together, I miss you every day.

    Resident evil 4 is my childhood game when i was kid, i used to be scared of that chainsaw guy but when i came back some time later i have finished the game so many times i lost count. Unlocked all special weapons including the hand cannon and more. I am 18 now and i am glad this game was there for me when i was a kid and it is one of the best live action shooter game i ever played.

    Resident Evil serisiyle ilk 7.seride tanıştım. Sonra bir gün indirim günü aldım ve dedimki ben bunca zaman neler kaçırmışım. R.e 4 ü bir oynadım birkaç ay boyunca etkisinden çıkamadım yani mükemmel. Kontrollere alışırsınız ilk oynandığında garip gelsede alışıyorsun zamanla. R.E serisi çok özel benim için.

    1st, i thought this game was boring at all. When i play this game, i feel very impressive. No wonder this game was 1st award. i doubt this (ps2) Resident Evil 4 is best then Resident Evil 4(Gamecube) was created in 2004. Anyway i very grateful about this game. Good work, Capcom.

    If you were not interested with previous RE games, RE4 will manipulate your brain and force you to love it, while you'll be enjoying every microsecond of it.

    This game i would say is the best in the franchise they got rid of the clunky controls the laser sight had its few flaws like if there was more than one person on the screen it sometimes was hard to get a good shoot. the story was ok i could deal with it. and i liked the bonus content on this game. overall its a good game with some flaws. but i would sugest getting it for the gamecube its better.

    Just finish resident evil 5 and figure i pick up 4 never played it ,,wow its awsome and insane,,don't know which one is better,but do yourself a favor and play this game...i think its longer then 5 and has lots of extra, and no coop and i think thats a good thing cause sheeva can be a pain.

    I have played the PS2 version and they are almost even... except for visuals. (Nintendo should be ashamed they under-utilized the GC graphics engine. The GC version looks THAT much better.) But SONY has widescreen and for a game that already plays like a movie, it worked VERY well. I dare you to encounter the chainsaw guy in close quarters with no upgrades to the basic handgun. The immersion is amazing. It has some of the best elements of gaming dating back to atari. If this game had come sooner in the GameCube lifespan, its no doubt it would be a stronger console contender. You can have the best game on the market and the console for Sony and Microsoft's price point. This is the best time to be a gamer with multiple consoles. . RE4 has all of the polish of Kojima's METAL GEAR and the gameplay depth of Microsofts's HALO. If only there was the sense of free roaming akin to Rockstar's GTA series. My only qualms are linear gameplay and only semi interactive environments. But those are minor, eight out of ten easy for the PS2 version, I did like the extra missions even if the story still takes a backseat to the action. CAPCOM is the real winner, if you haven't played this game now that its on two consoles, you are NOT a gamer.… Expand

Fun combat makes you feel really bada$$, and it'll frighten you a bit, too (though it prefers to creep you out).     I remember walking into my local gaming emporium and seeing a copy of this when it was a GameCubr title only and being blown away by the demo running on the tv's. After handing over my cash and returning to my cube i can safely say that this is the best RE game yet.     While the Gamecube version's Graphic's are slightly better than PS2's, I m giving the edge to the PS2 for it's insanely entertaining addition "Seperate Ways".

    I've just read through some reviews on here and can't believe some of the negative comments. What is so wrong with the control system that makes it so difficult? Once you've played this for a little while it becomes second nature like all good games. Graphics and sound are great, but the gameplay, upgrades, bosses, everything about this game are right out of the top drawer.     I loved this game from the look to he controls. Its easily my favorite game for the PS2 and definitely on my top 3 of all time. If you like action you must play this game.

    The Game is hands down the best Resident Evil game out there, with excellent camera angles, upgradable weaponry, and hell an overall fun time, this game should be 10/10 no doubt, only flaw is the graphics are a bit worse, but not by much...this game is a 10. The only few negative remarks I could make about RE4, is that sometimes frequently switching weapons can be annoying (you have to go into the menu to change it), and that the final level feels a little long.     Its a 9. Gamecube is a 10 out of 10 because its looks quite a bit better but over all this is a great port of what is in my mind, not only the best game of the year, but my favorite game of all time!!

    Smashing game. Reading about the complaints about running and gunning, I have to say that it would be pointless, anyway, noone can move and shoot with accuracy unless they move painfully slow. It would also ruin the game imo.

    Som bits were the most exciting, intense and terrifying moments in gameing. Others were fun but let the game down. it had laid the template for a great game. But trust me this game is worth it for the great bits.

I do not know how some people complain about the movements, when i started the game i thought the controls where difficult, but 20 minutes later they where so easy, i shooted them in the head the most of the times. It is not so difficult with the time. And if you don`t like the conversations just skip them. Besides I think the "challenges" (those that you Tis is one of my favorite games.     This game confused me quite a lot. It starts amazingly but it seems like the developers where lost in witch direction to take the game. While as a game it plays very well this resident evil doesnt stay true to its name,it gets too much over the top in many moments during the whole experience. For an action game its really good but for a Horror game its very dissapoining. Silent Hill 3 a much better horror game than this because it stays focus on what it wants to be and that is a Horror adventure not an action adventure.To sum it,great gameplay , great visuals, poor story , frustration instead of terrifying atmosphere.… Expand

    Absolutely beautiful! this game is incredible. The graphics and controls work very well compared to previous resident evil games, and has many different ways to get through the same game, many traps and erie scenes make this game my favorite game of the PS2.

    Believe the hype. As no great fan of Resident Evil or shooters in general, I was still amazed by this game. Great atmosphere and perfectly escalating challenge, by the end you'll feel exhausted, exhilerated, and amazed you were actually able to survive the horrors found in this quaint little village.

    This game has an amazing story line and has exellent game play. The creators should be proud of themselfs for making this game for the PS2. Its a challenge and some peaple dont like that but I take the game as pretty easyon both settings. The creaturs in the game make this the best Resident Evil game yet. I hope to see more games like this one.
