  1. A fast-paced game with loads of action. The game looks good and plays well.

Though I liked Reign a lot, its horrible collision detection and frustrating later levels must be noted. [Dec 2002, p.164]
  3. A very decent action game which packs a pretty good punch.

Not bad, but not good either. [Dec 2002, p.123]

It's gritty and grey, a joy to control, and above all, it's unique in its presentation, allowing the player to play as human or dragon. [Dec 2002, p.88]

The action in this game is somewhat undercut by loose control. [Holiday 2002, p.54]

A very, very average game, with a few little gems that just barely lift it from the norm.

There are fleeting moments of fun in Reign of Fire, but they're quickly smothered beneath lame level design, wretched controls, and a surprising lack of intensity, considering all the dragons and missiles and fire and whatnot.
  9. Ambitious in construction and theory, but lacking in overall gameplay and entertainment value, Reign of Fire limps half-heartedly to the finish line.

The game, much like the movie gets passed off as uninspired, and a reason to have some explosions. If you're cool with that, you'll be cool with this.
  11. It’s not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but Reign of Fire certainly captures the adventurous spirit and atmosphere of its motion picture counterpart.

Makes a great first impression, but behind the flash, there's little to keep you truckin' for the long haul. [Dec 2002, p.212]
  13. Excitement quickly fades, leaving you with a game with unresponsive controls and lackluster action.

The game's biggest problem is the annoyingly sluggish controls used to navigate your jeep about the various landscapes. [15 Nov 2002, p.144]

The overall speed of the game slows down substantially when there's too much activity on screen.

You may begin to find yourself suffering from the Too-Much-Sameness disorder. Symptoms include boredom and the unwillingness to complete the game.

The film and this game, now completely forgotten, were part of my childhood. None of them were good, but I cant stop liking them a bit.

Reign of fire is a game where you play both human and dragon missions. It is a game which contains 16 missions and they get tough fast. TheReign of fire is a game where you play both human and dragon missions. It is a game which contains 16 missions and they get tough fast. The controls for the most part are decent however there is no sensitivity controls and I found the aim control too "spazzy" for my likings which detracted from my enjoyment quite a bit. I was stuck with adjusting auto aim sensitivity which isn't really what I wanted but one I decided was going to be the compromise I had to go forward with. The gameplay itself was better than I expected. This game had low reviews and is movie based so I wasn't expecting much but to my surprise the gameplay gets hard and hectic and a lot happens in real time to keep you active and entertained. My gripe with the game is that there are not well spaced checkpoints and if you fail a mission you go back to the start and my God that can be painful. Thankfully the gameplay is decent but I do feel this will be the area of design which makes people rank the game on the lower side cuz the game itself has some good stuff going on. Hopefully you game with a helmet on because you will want to bang your head into something in frustration at some point in the game. Full Review »

I can't understand some of the reviews above that complain about the controls - this for me is the best vehicle combat game I've I can't understand some of the reviews above that complain about the controls - this for me is the best vehicle combat game I've ever played. Games like twisted metal have no skill. This game lets you aim without driving straight at the target - great! Full Review »
