Graphically, this is a very solid and good looking PS2 title.
-
Make no mistake, Red Card 20-03 is NOT a soccer sim, though it does a good job of recreating a surface representation of the game. It IS an incredibly fun, addictive and enjoyable experience.
-
It may not be as deep as it could or should be, but Red Card can really kick it, and you can't help but love that.
-
A very fun and solid arcade soccer game which bends the rules and allows for more action rather than simulation and slow down due to fouls being thrown around left and right.
-
Nothing jazzes up a sport better than flagrant infractions.
-
RedCard doesnt concern itself with realism and whilst that may offend die-hard Pro Evo fans, the more casual player will have a great time.
-
It's very easy to pick up and play, although the control scheme is occasionally daunting.
-
Game InformerI love how Midway has made a pretty realistic title that just happens to throw a very vicious elbow. [May 2002, p.83]
-
I enjoyed playing the game but the re-playability with only one player is limited, unless you really like the challenge of unlocking teams and stadiums.
-
It goes into slightly more realistic territory without sacrificing the fun, easy-to-learn gameplay that most of Midway's sports games possess.
-
While this is definitely not a game to for serious fans, for those who want a half decent footie title with lots of fun extras - then Red Card makes a great alternative.
-
PlayboyThe game's too footloose for FIFA fans, not outrageous enough for Blitz devotees.
-
Slide kicks, slide tackles, flaming hot-foot bombs to the face, and all other manner of nastiness is a great way to relieve stress and an even better way to win. Rules are for sissies.
-
Offers a solid soccer game but misses on the extreme feel achieved from successes like "NFL Blitz" and "NHL Hitz."
-
A unique title with controls too complex for an arcade title and action too ridiculous for a simulation.
-
The end result is mired in too many gameplay inconsistencies for me to give the game my full blessing as a reviewer.
-
PSM MagazineIf RedCard Soccer 20-03 leaned a little more to the "extreme" side, we probably would have enjoyed it more. [June 2002, p.40]
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineWhile "Blitz" and "Hitz" both fit perfectly into the vision of Midway's crazy, over-the-top, pain-first, scoring-second identity, Red Card doesn't. [June 2002, p.99]
-
Without the intense craziness of true Midway arcade charm, though, even the multiplayer wore thin, leaving me wanting to go back to games like FIFA.

-
SalC.Jun 24, 2002Soccer is a great game. But as "real life" sports on video, this game has the extra pizzazz that is needed.
