I've been playing it for a few weeks now and can definitely report that it's the most accurate golf sim on the market to date.

Very different [from] "Tiger Woods," but this is far from a bad thing. A viable alternative to the franchise. [Issue 144, p.97]
  3. What ProStroke delivers is the most in-depth control system I can imagine working on a standard console controller, but the game that's built around it simply isn't exciting enough to sway Tiger fans over to a new series.

A game for golfers, thanks to the innovative control scheme and camera angle. But the controls aren't enough to separate it from the rest of the passable golf games on the market, and the mediocre visuals and presentation don't help ProStroke's cause very much.
  5. It takes golf seriously, and it makes a nice difference. Just don't expect to be teeing off on the moon or anything.

It's ultra-realistic, and terribly serious. But so long as you know what you're letting yourself in for, and can invest the effort required, it should keep you glued for some time.

Tiger Woods remains the most accessible golf game, but ProStroke is easily the title for those who find a lack of challenge in its competitors. [Oct 2006, p.124]
  8. There's incredible depth to how you strike the ball, which makes the overall game very satisfying. There's little in terms of game modes, and no online mode is a bitter pill, but as a pure golf simulation it's very slick indeed.
  9. Many will lap up the opportunity to get to business tweaking and customising every shot, while players who might more often reach for the likes of Mario Golf or the Monkey Golf mini-games will be repelled.

Golf games need soul to appeal - and ProStroke really hasn't got any. [Oct 2006, p.87]

A decent attempt to snaffle the crown away from King Woods, ProStroke Golf is let down by its lack of rewards and features. [Sept 2006, p.90]
  12. There is nothing to get particularly excited about, not even the innovative dual-stick control system that supposedly helps you to groove your swing as a professional would.

ProStroke Golf aimed to create realistic golf, and real drama, but while it has great physics, it also has PS one graphics, and a crappy interface that does all the work for you, besides swing, which takes a lot of the fun out of it. [Nov. 2006, p.81]
  14. If you like golf, I think you should buy this, but keep in mind, it might not have all the features you’re looking for.
  15. A deeply flawed game that fails to bring anything new to the world of golf games.
  16. But its solid play mechanics aren't enough to overcome the near-complete lack of licensed courses and golfers, or the various other oversights and issues that plague it.
  17. When you first put it in, you are immediately assaulted by offensively-bad graphics and a career mode that lacks substance. Top it off with a control scheme that’s too complicated to be anywhere near fun and you have the worst golf title of the year.
  18. I give ProStroke Golf – World Tour 2007 points for innovation. You know me; I’m a sucker for trying new things in sports gaming. But, the new controls do not come close to making up for what is essentially a poorly-made game.

This is by far the worst golf game I have ever played and I have played and beaten many golf games before. This game just flat out sucks. TheThis is by far the worst golf game I have ever played and I have played and beaten many golf games before. This game just flat out sucks. The graphics looks like they are from Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 and this game came out in 2007. The controls are weird. The characters are forgettable. This game is basically the dollar store version of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour game franchise without Tiger. It also has barely any fun factor to it. Stay away from this outdated piece of trash game. If you want a better golf game from Gusto Games, play John Daly's Prostroke Golf. It is one hundred times better than this game. I think it's sad that eight professional golfers attached themselves to this game including Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Colin Montgomerie, etc. the game also has commentary from the 1991 British Open Champion Ian Baker-Finch. I feel bad for Ian. This game is best for the wolves. Full Review »
