There is plenty of customisation and character development, and a large variety of mini-games to master. There's never been a better time to enjoy the lighter side of golf.
  2. The gameplay is easily as deep and challenging as "Links" and "Tiger Woods." Those games are traditional, while Outlaw Golf is irreverent and usually bawdy enough that it's best avoided by the faint of heart.
  3. This outing is more rounded than the original and has more choice - such as eight courses to play compared with only three in the original - and at £17.99 it is good value.
  4. A decent depiction of golf, the chance to whack cows with exploding balls and online play. For a meagre twenty notes it's a great alternative to "Tiger Woods." [PSM2]

The humor is certainly there, but Hypnotix really needs to get the polish onto this simulation before people will revere its hilarity. [Oct 2004, p.125]
  6. So even if bawdy caricatures of rednecks and dominatrices don't sound immediately appealing to you, Outlaw Golf 2 offers a tight, challenging game of golf with some unique gameplay ideas, and it comes at a price that makes it a terrific value.

If the humor was more a part of the game than just something that's laughed at once or twice and hurried past, then this would have been an improved installment. As it is, there are still many pacing problems such as the 20-40 second waits for times to just play the game.

There's a fairly deep golf sim here, too, and if you like its style, it's funny. [Holiday 2004, p.73]

The actual gameplay itself is pretty good and does reward skill unlike EA Sport's recent golfing output.
  10. A surprisingly engaging golf game that’s great value for money and is perfect to appease those post-pub blues.

Considering the game’s budget price tag of $20 is less than the green fees for most public golf courses, the repetitive nature of the sound and animations is hardly an issue if you don’t mind some spanking, slapping, grinding, stroking, and gyrating in your golf.

Outlaw Golf 2 is actually a great game, but wading through the cut-scenes and commentary is hard work unless your sense of humour stopped developing when you were 15. [Jan 2005, p.115]

The lasting appeal is great, the graphics aren't half bad, the sound is pretty good, yet the gameplay falls far below par to my golfing expectations.
  14. For a $20 budget title, the game does feature a robust amount of gameplay options, characters, and even online play; but its repetitive presentation, sloppy controls, and slow pace of play remind you of why the game will only sent you back twenty bones.
  15. For something a little different, Outlaw Golf 2 is certainly worth considering, and the retail price certainly won’t break the budget.

It's harmless fun that loses its luster all too soon. Do I even have to mention "rental?"
  17. To be brutally honest, the flaws in the putting system kill the game almost completely dead.
  18. Did I mention the shooting interface itself? Picture the annoying timing of the triple-tap Hot Shots model combined with the occasional imprecision of the analog Tiger model, and you'll have some idea of what we're talking about here: It's the worst of all possible worlds!

For golf fans, Outlaw Golf 2 doesn’t offer anything besides frustration due to lacklustre controls. If you are into such a thing other games, like "Rumble Roses" and "DOA"-series, offer more in the breast- and crass-departments. [May 2005, p.80]
  20. Here’s a one word review – crap.

Most elements are quite right and a lot of nice and funny ideas are packed into the game, so you want to play it again and again: the RPG-like leveliing system, the humorous style of the characters and the commentators, the bridges and trees a obstacles in the courses, the cart-driving and beating mini-games. I really do like how they implemented these things in the game. But there are two rather small design choices, that make playing the game a very frustrating thing to me:
    A. it is very hard, and I hardly ever hit the bar on the right spot - and when I do once, it is likely I didn't hit it straight. Even the "Mr.Chicken"-cheat, which is supposed to make the tour mode easier buy turning the skills of the AI golfer down, doesn't really help, because your AI-partner (which you are obliged to have in the tour mode, in the only way to play the game regular with the chance level up your character and unlock the courses) becomes much worse in golfing that your AI-opponents.
    B. Second the game forces you to watch your opponents and partner how they prepare for the hit. When they hit the ball you can cancel the flight, but you have to watch them how they adjust their club and that takes a lot of time between your hits. So you have to stay a lot of time in front of the game between your own play to watch the opponents, beeing frustrated you didn't hit the ball like you wanted and wanting to do it better. Why do gaming companies do that? Don't they know that a game can be hard but not frustrating, if you don't have to wait for the next chance to try it again when you screwed up? To play one hole, even if yourself just play 2 minutes, you have to watch the others for 4 minutes every hole, meaning the whole tour endures 18x6 minutes without the possibility to save the game in between.
I really would like to play again, but I protect myself from that frustration by not playing. Maybe, if you have better reflexes than I have, you might like it, because all together, it is not a bad game.
