Its mared in lackluster gameplay and shoddy technical aspects.
-
In a world where light-gun games need to change or die, Ninja Assault is an evolutionary dead-end for the genre.
-
An average game that may be backed by superior bonus modes and challenges, but which at heart offers nothing new and, taken at face value, fails to deliver a truly thrilling experience.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyAn above-average shooting title that feels a lot like Sega's "The House of the Dead" games. [Sept 2002, p.150]
-
There isn't enough of the good stuff to keep you interested for long.
-
Game InformerGun games are just going to keep getting these crappy scores until they show us something new, and it sure doesn't have anything to do with ninja. [Feb 2003, p.98]
-
Play MagazineTerrific enemy placement, tough bosses and pretty good graphics. [Aug 2002, p.71]
-
GMR MagazineAs fun to run through once as any of them. [May 2004, p.95]
-
If incredibly sore hands and a serious feeling of relief after busting caps in countless Shogun hoodlums constitutes a solid console light-gun shooter, then Ninja Assault screams for your attention.
-
Its precariously short length (half-a-dozen brief stages plus Boss battles) and exorbitant price ($60 packed with a GunCon 2 and $45-50 by itself) couldnt have come at a worst time.
-
The downside to the lock-on feature is -- yep, you guessed it -- it makes the game easier. A LOT easier. Without it, it would have been too hard, and not nearly as fun, but with it, you'll exit the game almost as fast as you came.
-
netjakIt's just an hour or so of hitting the trigger button. It's tiring, while being mildly entertaining...but mostly just tiring. It's the type of game that is very, very easy to put down and walk away from, because you just don't want to hold the gun any longer.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineIt's a run-of-the-mill game that's fun for playing in spurts just to shoot stuff, but that's about it. [Oct 2002, p.150]
-
The voice work in this game is awful and unprofessional.
-
Cheat Code CentralIf you were waiting for an intense and long light-gun title, then this one will not disappoint you.
-
PSM MagazineThere's little depth here even for a gun game. [Oct 2002, p.40]
-
Delivers on the throwback headstrong-ninja motif, but its graphics are lacking, the level of challenge isnt up to snuff, and the whole experience is over way too quickly.
