Official U.S. Playstation MagazineI'll be happy to say that this is the best hockey game on the PS2. [Nov 2002, p.188]
-
Its accessible, its fun, the graphics and sound are well done, has the crowd is the best out there, and has enough options and stats to mollify even the most rabid fan of real hockey.
-
A solid realistic arcade experience that has surpassed any of the other sports titles Midway touches.
-
Youll have a constant smile on your face as well as enjoying an addictive and satisfying game of hockey. Excellent.
-
Game InformerIt may not be an accurate portrayal of NHL, but it blows away EA's game with little effort. [Nov 2002, p.127]
-
The irreverent nature of the game really lends itself to multi-player action.
-
It presents a nice challenge, and has a solid options package.
-
Everything about the game is extremely impressive. Whether it is the visuals, or gameplay, you will enjoy everything about this game. Dont forget about that depth either.
-
netjakIf you have lots of different people to play with NHL Hitz 2003 might make for a worthwhile purchase, since the length and skill level are just right for a quick pick-up game with friends.
-
The models and textures, and the backgrounds and special effects are better than many hockey games out there. This is one pretty game.
-
A game that is a lot of fun, and has considerable depth. However, being an arcade game at heart, it may be frowned upon by the sim player.
-
This game's pick up and play appeal will have casual gamers hooked to this game, but its RPG style elements and surprising franchise mode depth also could appeal to sports game junkies as well.
-
Theres more fluency to the [Hitz] gameplay, and the on fire element is handier than EAs aptly named gamebreaker.
-
If youre looking for rowdy, raucous action backed by unusual staying power and that familiar Midway gameplay, youll savor the smell of what Hitz is cooking.
-
PSM MagazineThis year's iteration of Hitz brings interesteing features and likeable additions that truly make it a better overall game than last year's. [Nov 2002, p.38]
-
Play MagazineMidway has taken an already proven formula for hard-hitting action and added cool new gameplay elements that give this Hitz incredible replay value. [Nov 2002, p.88]
-
While hockey purists will obviously be turned off by the rough-and-tumble nature of NHL Hitz, it's a great game of hockey that anyone can pick up and play.
-
While NHL Hitz is definitely an easy game to pick up and play, the simplicity also makes for a game with a limited interest factor. After a few hours of checking and one-timers, it starts to get a bit dull.
-
A title that seems to be suffering from a bit of an identity crisis this year. Unlike last years version, which was fully dedicated to being smash-mouth hockey fun, the tone in Hitz 20-03 is more serious and less consistent in its approach.
