  1. The game does stumble in a couple of areas, but the program pulls together a wide range of elements for a challenging and enjoyable day of gridiron action.

It doesn’t deserve starter status because its competition has a bigger head start with their titles, but it’s definitely a big step in the right direction.
  3. Some graphical flaws, musical issues, and lightly overbalanced play cast a shadow on the game. However, if you can overlook these issues, you’ll find a good title to sustain you throughout this season.
  4. The things they did well, were recreating a football atmosphere with a hard-hitting, fast paced game. I don’t think they are far off; they need to come up with a challenging level of play, more animations and a completely revamped recruiting system.
  5. This game is best for those who want to play a blowout game and not think about defense… ever. This is a good-looking game, and is fun to play, but purists should look elsewhere.
  6. This thing is too easy to run against. I usually get a average of 7 yards on my running plays in this game.
  7. The lack of any real college atmosphere leaves you wondering whether or not you are even playing a college football game. The unbalanced controls and strategies do a lot of harm as well.

It pales in comparison with "NCAA Football 2003." [Oct 2002, p.40]

Marred by a poor representation of the scrambling and running game and just no[t] as personable as EA's collegiate masterpiece.
  10. A bit too much like its NFL brother, this game does little to simulate the college experience.
  11. The gameplay is incredibly unbalanced, the graphics are dated, and, most importantly, the game fails to capture the essence of the college football experience.
  12. Too bad the flawed AI of the CPU opposition, choppy graphics and lack of customization keep it far below the excellence of EA's and Sega's PS2 college games.
  13. While I thought NFL GameDay made some strides against the NFL competition, I don't think GameBreaker holds a candle to "NCAA."

Just pick up "NCAA 2003" and forget this one even exists. [Oct 2002, p.149]
  15. While playing offense is very easy, playing defense will have you mashing your cleats into the turf out of frustration.
  16. There's a nice added tweak in the Head Coach mode...but other than that there are zero improvements on the already deeply flawed GameDay 2003.

Just a notch below "GameDay" as one of the year's most disappointing football titles. [Sept 2002, p.52]
  18. It plays and looks like a game that could have been worth your time a few years ago, when most games had mediocre graphics and at least a few gameplay flaws.

Play either of the other PS2 NCAA games and look smarter for it. [Oct 2002, p.184]

I also agree that EA sports is dominating over the field of football games.
