There are some other beefs, too, such as odd-looking animations that make the players look like they're skating on the court.
-
Da GameboyzThe game succeeds in generating some excitement (especially in multi-player mode) and executes well on most levels. Still, if given a choice I'd lean more to "NBA Live 2001," which for the moment, at least, retains its title as the number 1 basketball title to buy.
-
With no horrible complaints or exciting highs it is just another basketball game for the PS2.
-
An enjoyable multiplayer basketball game, but hoops purists might find the lack of strategic play a bit disappointing.
-
"NBA Live 2001" and "ESPN NBA 2Night" both should be picked up before you consider getting this title.
-
Forget about your outside game--it's next to impossible to sink a trey. And the acid-trip free throw meter will have you wondering what the 989 gang was huffing when they thought it up.
-
If I had to choose I'd say "ESPN NBA 2Night" is better than "NBA Live 2001", which in turn is marginally better than both "ShootOut 2001" and "Final Four."
-
Daily RadarThere are too many nagging problems, from the stuttering animation to the strange, stooped-over look of most of the players, as if they couldn't stand up straight.
-
My suggestion from here on out is that every time you see a 989 sports title sitting on the shelf, whether it's at Best Buy, EB, or even Blockbuster just pretend it's not there.
-
Weak gameplay, graphics, sound and options make NBA ShootOut 2001 an easy pass. Don't bite on this ball fake.
-
The entire game will most likely leave most gamers (not just basketball fans) feeling disgusted.
-
989 should just stop with these crummy sports games already. They can't currently compete with the folks at Visual Concepts and EA Sports. If this is next-gen basketball, then I'll stick with the good old days.
