The faces are the truest recreation of NBA stars I've seen, though the big heads do look a little out of place on the equally outlandish bods.
-
As a single player game it can become pretty infuriating having to put up with the computer AI.
-
A fun game, but is it the best 3D update to the classic NBA Jam? No -- and it's not as good as many of the 2D incarnations either.
-
The game's greatest shortcoming, however, is that this style of over-the-top gameplay hasn't evolved much from Midway's own "NBA Jam" or "NBA Showtime" titles.
-
"NBA Showtime" fans may enjoy Hoopz, but the game would have benefited from an honest-to-goodness arcade mode and a speed setting, if not faster overall gameplay.
-
It had a proven track record of great arcade basketball gaming behind it, and although it is entertaining, this years offering fails to live up to that legacy.
-
Having fun is great, but the rest of the package isn't as alluring as a sparkling new PS2 title should be.
-
A multi-player friendly exercise in acrobatic lunacy and dunking maneuvers.
-
Daily RadarA tired genre makes its first zombie steps onto the PS2. It's time for a rethink.
-
Only if you're desperate, really, really desperate. But if you were looking forward to a new kind of game, a fun, arcade-style hoops game that will really open your eyes, wait for "NBA Street."
