    This game is a very great game with excellent story with fun gameplay and plenty of intense moments.     Creative bosses, genuine 60s spy plot, and ingenious gameplay. The importance of the environment and your interaction with it (camouflage, caught/killed animals and plants as food, noise and sight detection by enemies, etc), along with an update to gameplay (via CQC and camera movement) and one of the best bosses in video game history, not only makes this game one of the best on PS2, butCreative bosses, genuine 60s spy plot, and ingenious gameplay.     This game is fantastic. There's just no stopping it. Easily one of my favourite games of all time. Before Ocarina of Time fans come yelling at me, yes, I have played it. I've beaten the 3DS remaster. This game trumps OoT.

    First off, let me just say how awestruck I was when I played this game to find these visuals on my PS2. It was incredible; lush foliage, beautiful character models and really nice post processing effects that really enhanced the lighting and other effects.

    For gameplay, I've always been a fan of stealth games but Splinter Cell aside, I hadn't really played any. Subsistence was my first dive into the Metal Gear series, and I don't regret it. The controls are clunky at first and a bit unorthodox, yes, but you get used to them fairly quickly, although I will admit the button sensitive interrogations/CQC gets annoying at times.

    Again, a fantastic game. The characters are engaging and the story is gripping, and I was blown away at how well written the game was. At the final scene (no spoilers here), I waited ages until I finally "finished it off" (people who finished the game will know what I mean). I'm playing this game in 2016 and I think it looks great; that is a true testament to how well this has aged. My only complaint with the game is that it felt like it was all over too quickly, and that's more of a compliment than anything. Phenomenal experience, would recommend any day.    … Expand

    The controls are horrible. However the plot did strike a chord with me. The voice actors are also unwisely picked, not matching the characters too well. There weren't any cross hairs for aiming your guns. There's not too much replay value either except for secrets or harder difficulties. In the end it's definitely worth a rent at the very least.

    Metal Gear Solid 3 became one of my favorite video games of all time as soon as I played it. This game is a truly unique experience that needs to be enjoyed by everyone. The graphics are so stellar that they look better than some current generation games. There were a few times I had to remind myself that I was playing a PS2 Game and not a 360 game. The story alone made me want to play through this game to see what would happen next. However, what makes this game truly superb is the gameplay. The gameplay is one of the most polished and well executed experiences I have ever played. The controls feel good, and although there are a lot of options and things you can do, I never felt overwhelmed by the possibilities. The game also lets you decide how to play through it. Want to kill everything? You can do that. Want to sneak around and use stealth (which admittedly is the game's encouraged way)? You can do that too. Metal Gear Solid 3 leaves you with so many ways to get through obstacles. You can use others as human shields, scare them to give you helpful information, and hide their bodies if need be. Or you can go non lethal, opting instead for tranquilizers and distractions rather than lethal tactics. Overall, this is one of the best and most well made video games I have ever played. I simply cannot give this game anything less than a perfect score, due to the extremely smooth gameplay and the great story. Anyone who has not experienced this game, please do yourselves a favor and play this game. It is worth every minute.… Expand

The story is superb and the gameplay, while archaic in some ways (having to open the menu constantly got a little tedious), is deep and fun.     Having never played Metal Gear Solid properly(only tried MGS1 as a kid), I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. And since this is chronologically the 1st game in the story, I started with this.

You start the game with only a knife and tranquilizer gun for attacking, and have to spend a pretty a long time like that, it seems. Having so much health, even on HARD difficulty, is also pretty weird. I think you have to repeatedly get hit for well over a minute to die. If this is HARD, I wonder what the lower difficulties are like...

    Snake's voice acting is also a bit overdone. Can't tell if his sarcastic or something every time he talks.    … Expand

    While this game has the BEST story and game play I've played in years, the fact that it also has the WORST control system prevents me give it a score more than 4. I find it most annoying and frustrating when switching constantly between the first person and third person view. And some times the camera views get "auto-switched" when I don't even intent to. Yes, you can switch to the first person view, but then you can't move in this view, only to look around.     Man these game would be great if only for one thing --- the controls, which are absolutely horrible. The 3rd person perspective may be ok for 1st player but it is absolutely frustrating for online play (which is the reason I got the game). Another thing is you have to adjust the camera angle everytime you climb something, go around a corner, ect. Omg and did i forget...theres no crosshairs, these is especially fucked pup when you want to throw a grenade but don't know where your throwing it, or when you see someone while in 3rd person view and want to shoot them but you can't tell if your aiming at him so you have to go into 1st person and hope he dosen't turn away or just run away while your concentrating on holding down the l1 and r1 button and pressing the square button lightly and adjust it with the analog stick....omg god give me good controls. It would have helped tremendously if you could just have crosshairs and be able to choose between 3rd, 1st, or 2nd person view mode.… Expand

    I couldn't stand the setting, the characters, the FPS lag, or the storyline--which didn't have quite the flair of MGS2. It's better off as a rent. You'll beat it once and never go back again (I didn't).

    Controls are crap, Visuals look like a ps2 launch title, and the story is a cut-rate spy movie knock-off. I lent this game to three different people who all agree that this is the worst game ever. I have played sudoku on gba and it's still better this game.

Story is just cliché Stealth TPS with boring conversations adding nothing to the main plot. Combat is mostly unbalanced. Enemies are either too easy or suicide level challenging. It's painfully obvious how the developers made soldiers almost impossible to kill to force people into fighting monsters, so reviews wouldn't say "It's like Goldeneye 007."
    Mission payouts are close to 0. What you're gonna do with 50 Coins? Might as well loot everything and sell that for better profit. Perhaps you earn more later. I might figure that out some day.

    There's alot potential here. The design of the world is impressively detailed (especially rural locations), but that's pretty much the only impressive aspect.

    Back to my question. Who's everyone rating this game like it's a masterpiece?
    I know who. It's kids who aren't old enough to know the true masterpieces of gaming, and those who love it just because of the genre of setting and/or gameplay.
    To me it's nowhere close masterpieces such as My fav cuz im smart.

    The best re-release of a Metal Gear Solid game. The new camera angle is a blessing although some boss battles do good without it. The Online Mode is great port of the Metal Gear Solid gameplay along with the hilarious extras i.e.: cardboard box and porno books! The original MSX games are great and are fun play for those who want to see the origin of Solid Snake's adventures. The The best re-release of a Metal Gear Solid game. The Online Mode is great port of the Metal Gear Solid gameplay along with the hilarious extras i.e.: cardboard box and porno books! The original MSX games are great and are fun play for those who want to see the origin of Solid Snake's adventures. The Secret Theater is just drop-dead funny, especially: Metal Gear Raiden: Snake Eraser, Metal Gear S... and He's Still Got It. Duel Mode and the Snake vs. Monkey don't offer Europeans anything new except a new camera angle and the Demo Theater fails by giving you all the cutscenes of the game simply by making a save file. The Existence Disc is all right but many things could've been changed and the narration is just useless, but if you haven't been able to finish the game then it's good opportunity to see the full story. There are some control and lag issues online but since it's test version of the real MGO which is supposed to be on MGS4 fans should easily look past it and enjoy the sillyness. It's my favorite game of the series(way better than Snake Eater as whole).… Expand

    even if you don't play many games or you aren't that big a metal gear fan, there's simply no reason not to own this. awesome game to begin with, endless bonus features, online mode, and at $30? please. if you don't buy this, then sell your ps2.

    I strongly disagree with Zippy. This game has almost unlimited replay value due to the online. The PS2 online system is stable (no trouble online with this game), what I think you want is a unififed system (XBox).

    The Metal Gear series just keeps getting better and better. Even the cheats and extras you don't bother with are far and above anything else out there. I can't get enouth Metal Gear.

    I'm a Metal Gear fan that has remained loyal to the series for several years. I will say that Subsistence overall is an improvement over Snake Eater. However, I will not jump on the band-wagon that acclaims the game to be "fricken amazing." The game is mainly amazing because of the previously released SE story and because of Metal Gear Online. There are several things with I'm a Metal Gear fan that has remained loyal to the series for several years. I will say that Subsistence overall is an improvement over Snake Eater. However, I will not jump on the band-wagon that acclaims the game to be "fricken amazing." The game is mainly amazing because of the previously released SE story and because of Metal Gear Online. There are several things with Subsistence that I'm not satisfied with. The manual that comes with the game is skimpy (about 13 pages long). While playing Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, important information is said to be in this skimpy manual - which is a lie. Several secret theaters on Disc 2: Persistence are poorly done (the graphics look crappy when being compared to the gameplay of SE). The same thing can go for the much anticipated Disc 3: Existence. I have the Limited Edition of this game and will say I am extremely dissapointed with Disc 3 - so much so that I barely touch it and will say that it was a waste of $10. The box to the LE (in the US) is opened through the top - as opposed to the open-sided box that the Japanese people received. I'll leave you with the pros of this game. The SE story is much more enjoyable (that is if you didn't play your eyeballs out with the SE version) with the 3D camera. The SE story is also improved a little bit through the now available bonus camos and face paints. The MG and MG2: Solid Snake games are also really cool. MGO, although I haven't tried it yet, appears to be one of the more successful parts of this game (most definitely a major reason as to why people are buying this game in America). If you want this game... expect a balanced amount of pros and cons. If you would rather hang onto your SE copy, then you're not losing out on too much. At about this point in the video gaming industry, I think almost everyone is starting to become annoyed with Metal Gear remakes. I leave you to decide for yourselves.… Expand

    Very good game. I enjoyed the story and characters a lot... and it was a lot more comprehensible than Metal Gear Solid 2. I loved the whole 1960's twist on the game... and the games cutscene were fairly entertaining. Good game.

    I gave this one a nine because this is by far the best metal gear game ever. i even played portable ops and that is a game that requires alot of getting used to and when i say a lot i mean a lot. but anyways back to mgs3subsistence; yes you must get the hang of playing with the new camera angle in subsistance but it is well worth it. The multiplayer, though it take a bit to get used to, is one of the quickest, coolest, most chaotic games in a long time.     Really one of my favorites, i am and will always be a big fan of the Metal Gear series, Sons of Liberty for me was'nt as great as this one. This one kind of takes you back to those glorious days of the 1st one. I can't believe someone gave it a 6... You must have no taste whatsover... They should ban that guy from playing games, and give him a barbie!

    Subsistence adds more content to an already classic game, the addition of the first two MG games is fantastic. The online ( since, i never played) need to be similar to MGS4 but at all cost is incredible. MGS gets better than ever.

The forest and desert like environments are a great addition, this allows the player to find many more places to hide and avoid enemies and use different stealth tactics unlike the predecessors where you had to come up with a stealth plan in narrow and indoor areas. The indoors areas are still in this game, however they are a lot easier to go through by using the scientist costume speaking of costumes this game gives you the camo and face paint system where you can dress yourself according to the environment to reduce chances of enemy detection. The enemiesx are also more intelligent and will detect you if you run behind them to take them down, thats why this game allows you to slowly walk behind the enemies and take them out. On top of that there are alot of different ways to take down enemies, shooting them with your Mk22 gun which will put them to sleep, taking them down from the CQC, slitting their throat or the old fashioned way shooting them all with a big and powerful gun. It is not essential that you use the stealth stratedy to go through this game you can just go out there and kill everyone in sight as there are a lot of powerful weapons in the game that will help you take down large number of enemies, however using this stratedy can also be alot more difficult than stealth. The game's boss fights are also epic and each fight is unique in its own way, on top of that you can use different strategies to take down bosses you can take them down by either depleting their health and depleting their stamina however the way you kill the bosses would not change the actual story or any of the cutscenes, the bosses will just drop you their camoufloges with their own special abilities if you stamina kill them. The game's controls however can be tedious and complicated at time since they are pressure sensitive but you will get used to them. The game's graphics are fantastic for the ps2 this is quite possibly one of the best looking ps2 games ever, the environments are beautiful and the character models and animations look fantastic, however sometimes In have seen the grass and trees become somewhat invisible and there is lip syching but that kind of makes sense as the characters are speaking a different language but the game is translating it for you. Voice acting is also fantastic and realistic. The voice actors are deep into their characters and this adds alot of emotion and drama to the entire story of the game. The music and songs are all excellent and suit the nature and environment of the game and certain situations. On top of that the opening and ending songs are quite possibly the best I have heard in any video game. The game is also really long around 15 hours and has alot of replay value. Subsistence unlike Snake Eater has alot of extras, first of for starters it has 2 discs, the first disc has the exact same game from snake eater but with a third person 3D camera angle and the cutscenes from the entire game and ti can take up to 4 hours to view them all, and the cutscenes are still so epic that it will be like you are watching an amazing movie. The second disc has all the extras, Snake vs Monkey returns from Snake Eater, along with that the game has the original Metal Gear games Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 with somewhat improved graphics and pace from their original version they are a great addition and allows the people who have never played the original Metal Gears to play them and enjoy them. Despite their age the games are still very fun. The second disc also has a mode which allows you to play the game's epic boss battles, and play them as many times as you can to get as much of a perfect score as possible. Than there is the online mode which is sadly not working anymore as the networks are just down that may be because the ps2 era is just near its end but no online doesn't bother me that much as the game still has enough content to keep me exited and entertained. Overall this game is a masterpiece anybody who is a fan of Metal Gear Solid or anyone who likes storytelling in games, likes stealth and tactical espionage games should get this game.     I'm a hardcore gamer, i've played HUNDREDS and hundreds of games, and metal gear solid 3 is on the top of my list. Everything about this game is amazing, from the characters, to the story, to the gameplay, which is nothing new for the series. If you think of yourself as a real, or more hardcore gamer, you definitely need to play this game, as its honestly one of the best i've ever played.

    Subsistence, unlike the original release of Snake Eater, has a independently controlled camera fixed behind Snake as opposed to the usual MGS fixed camera. This was absolutely vital to MGS3 as the game suffered without it, creating a frustrating experience rather than a challenging stealth game.
    You must kill wildlife to survive, use camo to hide against advanced enemy A.I and conserve ammunition as supplies are limited. It's as much of a survival game as it is a stealth action game.
    For many it's the highlight of the franchise, but for me it's too unlike the previous games with a story that despite being well written just doesn't break new ground like the previous two titles did. An amazing stealth game and a must play for gaming aficionado's.    … Expand

I have now played the game at least 15 times through, half of those without skipping cut-scenes (a MAJOR achievement). I got the HD collection, the original and the hd collection for vita.     Story: The story of Metal Gear Solid follows the CIA agent, Naked Snake, during the 1960’s when the Cold War was ensuing, whom was on a mission to save a Soviet scientist say they may halt the creation of mass weapon of destruction. However it seems as though Naked Snake’s mentor Big Boss has defected and is helping the GRU organization who is attempting to overthrow the current Soviet government. They had managed to capture the Scientist themselves, capture the weapon, and destroy a Soviet research facility, the destruction of the facility led the Soviet government to believe that the U.S was the one who destroyed the facility and has given the U.S a week to prove their innocence by saving the scientist, destroying the weapon, and killing the defected traitor, The Boss. All of which is up to Naked Snake as he must traverse the jungle so he may complete the mission.

    The story of MGS3 is actually very good but has some severe inconsistencies with it’s tone, luckily you don’t need to play any of the other games in the series considering this is a prequel so this is a perfect starting point for players wanting to play the series. The game is of course, historical fiction, taking place during the Cold War so you may expect to see actual realism taking place. However don’t expect such a thing, the historical context of the plot quickly diminishes and becomes it’s own individual story with it’s own fictional characters and plot, even taking some liberties in terms of things that don’t exist like supernatural characters and events that is taken as normal by the characters. Including many moments that make little sense if you were to apply real world logic. Not to say it’s a bad thing by any stretch, just something to keep in mind for those expecting an accurate historical fiction plot. But what plot there is, is in fact excellent. The large cast of characters both hero or villain were memorable and entertaining, the tension of the situation at hand was great including many fun action set pieces, and the relationship between Naked Snake and Boss, which may be considered the story’s strong point, felt real, which only added to the feelings felt during their final confrontation. While the story is great, a severe issue stops it from being better, it’s inconsistent tone. Though one may think the situation at hand during the story would infact be very serious consistently throughout the entire story, but no. There are far too many bizarre and goofy moments that leave you perplexed on how it’s even there leading the entire story experience to become over the top. One moment you’re given a serious exposition on the destruction of the potential world, and the next moment someone is touching another man’s testicles. Or some ridiculously bad puns made by the villains, or how stupid and pubescent enemy soldiers sound and act like. There are far too many moments like that for the game to be taken 100% seriously which can single handedly ruin the story for some people. Though if you were to ignore it and treat it as it is, as I myself have done, you can get a fantastic story filled with many memorable moments and a solid ending. It just takes ignorance of the previously mentioned out of tune moments of the story.

    Gameplay: The gameplay may be considered one of the games weakest point, not to say it’s bad, just outdated by today’s standards. But the gameplay has some of the best mechanic and ways of playing I ever seen, and that is where the game truly shines. MGS3 is an action adventure third person stealth game, which allows you to play any way you choose, play silently without killing a single person, or play guns-a-blazing murdering everyone you see. The doesn’t punish you for choosing one or the other as some would expect, allowing an easy leniency for new players not into the stealth genre. Though there is an incredibly prevalent problem for someone that is new to the series, it’s controls deviate from traditional games. The controls are vastly different from what you would expect from a game of this nature, the manner of shooting involves pressing the Left analog stick, holding down the R1 or RB button, and pressing X or Square to shoot. Considering that is what you’ll be doing for the entire game, it does seem problematic for those who think that this is far too complicated and tedious. Including the fact that this is only one mechanic in which players must understand. It also doesn’t help that the game feels stiff and awkward, lacking the polish to make it great. Shooting itself is stiff, hand to hand combat is stiff, and sneaking around also feels stiff. Though, if you can deal with such processes, the game becomes a decent experience that unfortunately lacks polish. However there are several mechanics, specifically two, that provides the game with a fresh and innovative manner of player. The Stamina bar and Camouflage are ingenious ideas that make the game’s stealth much more fun and enjoyable. The Stamina is a necessary meter which essentially determines your overall efficiency in combat. To have a high stamina meter, you must capture food while in the jungle or steal it off of enemies and of course eat the food you’ve received. In doing so, you retain a high Stamina meter which determines many factors including aiming, health regeneration, and speed. If you were to retain a low stamina meter these stats will become insubstantial hindering your efficiency in combat. This makes it so that you are properly prepared for each encounter in order to succeed, forcing you to be on your edge at all times. Yet another absolutely ingenious feature is the usage of the camouflage and it’s effect on the game’s stealth. While playing, you have an index which reveals your likelihood of being spotted. Depending on the terrain, you wear the proper camo that can increase your index. To give an example if it is a forest like area, wearing green attire is the smart thing to do. This feature provides what the survival meter does as well, it puts the player on edge and prepares them for each encounter. These two features may be the saving grace of the gameplay, providing unique and innovative mechanics to the stealth genre. As for the difficulty, the same can’t be said. The default difficulty is far too easy, giving the player far too much health, really bad A.I, and makes it so that you don’t even feel threatened so you don’t even bother trying to sneak around since it is more time consuming. You also hoard ridiculous amounts of supplies which you can use frivolously making the game easy as well. I highly recommend that if you were to play the game, set to a higher difficulty that way all the problems with the difficulty are gone making the experience fun and enjoyable. But the shining pinnacle of the entire game are the boss battles which are enough to make up for the game’s faults. There are several boss battles, all of which provide an amazing and fun experience. I really can’t say anything else, just play the game and see for yourself since these are some of the best boss battles I’ve faced in a while. All in all, the gameplay is decent, there are some great features, it’s the lack of polish that keeps it from being great.

    Graphics: For the graphics, being a ten year old game, it’s safe the graphics are substandard by today’s releases, which is to be expected of course. The quality of the HD port is actually a huge improvement over the original released for the Playstation 2. The cutscenes look fine enough, with some awkward movements by the characters that do look outdated by today’s standards and the same applies to the gameplay. The setting of the game is set typically in the jungle and the atmosphere and quality of it feels surreal, this also follows applies to many of the game’s varying areas which provides a constant variety to the game leading to many memorable segments of the game. However when it comes to the character designs of the enemy soldiers, they all literary look exactly the same which breaks any sense of immersion when there are 15 enemy clone soldiers running at you, it does feel really unrealistic. While for the actual characters themselves look variant enough and distinct and the classic visual effect f the game does make it seem like it is Cold War Soviet Union. With that aside the game unfortunately suffers from frequent framerate drops putting the game to a severely slow, mostly if not entirely when there is absolute chaos. This is especially harmful for those who want to play as sadistically as possible, which causes the game to stop at a grindingly slow frame rate for most of the time. Though this is normally not a problem if you were to play the game stealthily, framerates are hardly an issue so don’t have any worries if you were to play like that. The graphics of HD Snake Eater essentially is a more slicker and cleaner look to a ten year old game.

    Sound: The soundtrack for MGS3 is very excellent and well done, though during the gameplay you more often than not ignore the quality of the music leading most of the soundtrack good but forgettable. But for segments of the game without any gameplay, they have some solid original soundtracks having some of the best cutscene music I have ever heard like Way to Fall, Life’s End, and Snake Eater are all fantastic with their according cutscene. The voice acting is just as great, most of the characters are assigned with some very excellent voices somewhat easing the absurdity of the previously aforementioned moments of the game. While the voices for enemy soldiers are quite the contrary, there little to no variety in voice acting and there voices are just awfully bad. I stated that the enemy soldiers sound like pubescent teenagers and with good reason, their voices do not match with their roles and they are on if the things that ruin the tone of the story. But none of this is a hindrance on the game, a great soundtrack and a overall great and well done voice acting are enough to redeem the awful voice acting of soldiers.

    Verdict: The game overall is great, with each individual category having something noteworthy. With the brilliant stealth mechanics, well written story, and fantastic soundtrack. Though the lace of polish in the gameplay and the inconsistent tone keep the game from becoming even better. But all of that doesn’t matter since this game has motivated me to play more in the series. That’s why I give the the game an 8/10    … Expand

    My favorite game of all time. It has solid (no pun intended) gameplay, that few other games come close to today. The camouflage system still works well today. The eating system offers a nice twist. The boss battles are fantastic, the standouts being The End, The Sorrow, and The Boss. The story is among the best, with an extremely emotional ending. This game has to be played by everybody.

    Incredible how kojima did this, this is the game that wanted an open world jungle with survival aspects, The plot is so deep, typical of Kojima, It has a free camera, face camo, the survival viewer, but the bosses while incredible they just happen you don't have a backstory, it has so many easter eggs, it is in a jungle, Snake eater the song, buy it.

The online mode requires skill, patience, and most of all, not to run around like an idiot spraying bullets all across the map, because if you do that, you'll be killed pretty quickly. Subsistence also comes with the original Metal Gears. Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which are prequels to MGS1. They play pretty well on the PS2, and they add more playtime to Subsistence. If you already have Snakeater, only buy this if you're totally desperate to play MG1 and MG2:SS.     My best game in the series. it does everything right like MGS1 did but with better graphics and more gameplay options. some may moan about this games controls but the first games were clumsy as well. but this version includes a 3D camera which makes the experience better. This game also had more gameplay then the others in the series too.

    The gameplay is fluid and the graphics are some of the best the Playstation 2 has to offer. The plot doesn't break any new ground the way MGS1 and MGS2 did, but it is still an excellent narrative in it's own right. This game is wonderful.

    I first bought MGS3: Snake eater after renting it about forty times because I loved it so much. Than for my birthday last year I bought Subsistance and fell even more in love. The only thing that ever bothered me about Snake Eater was the camera but I got used to it. Then Subsistance made it the best ever. The game designers clearly worked hard to study how the guns work because there only a few errors in total. Nothing beats the feeling of taking out 8 guards with your Colt M1911A1 and get eight head shots without alerting anyone. This game is so amazing, that I can't imagine how good MGS4 will be.     Best game ever made. This is the only "old" game I can still go back to and enjoy it.
    Every aspect is masterfully crafted. Gameplay is fun and story is entertaining and meaningful.
    Its only flaw is that they closed down the servers for MGO1.

    My favorite game to date. Such an absolutely amazing story, and the characters are memorable. The controls may have been confusing to say the least, but you get used to it. The boss battles are so creative! The Pain is a guy who controls bees and attacks you with them! The Fear is a guy who crawls around trees and goes invisible. The Sorrow is literally a nightmare.     Las historias a veces son mejores al hacerlas cortas pero entendibles. Esta entrega toca bastante sin hacer demasiado en poco tiempo pero lo logra al pasar el tiempo. La simpleza es un arte que no se ve muy seguido.

    From my viewpoint this is the best Metal Gear Solid game in the series, The gameplay and graphics from the PS2 is just amazing the boss fights are some of the best in the series, and a boss fight against the End is one of my favorites, I finished it 2 times In 2 days I got all the clothes the first time and I got the Peace Walker trophy the second time, I cannot recommend this game enough

    -But can be a dork sometimes
    -Environments are lush and full of life
    -Boss fights are challenging and will test skills in so many ways.

    Sure, some of these apply to other entries, MGS3 does it PERFECTLY and will have you hooked.

    If you are new to the series, you can start with MGS1 or THIS, aren't any direct references or spoilers to the first entry in the Metal Gear Solid series, as this is a PREQUEL.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Subsistence allows free control of the camera, over Snake Eater, allowing the gameplay to feel a lot more fluid. Due to this, MGS 3 feels more 'fun' to play than its predecessors, as the environments feel a lot bigger, with more ways of getting past enemies. The bosses are more interesting than MGS 1 and 2, but the battles themselves are not as memorable, and aren't as unique as previous boss battles, bar The End and The Sorrow. The story is best when the characters don't take themselves seriously (Ocelot); and these scenes are genuinely fantastic, but when it does, it feels very predictable, which for me made the impact of the ending less emotional than it could've been. Overall though, its a very fun game, and undoubtedly improves on its predecessors in terms of gameplay.… Expand

    Just finished this masterpiece, everything in this game is great. There are only 2 problems: you can't pause the game during cutscene and story sometimes too complicated, but who cares? it's entertaining and interesting to follow so maybe that's not that big problem to worry about.

    Kodjima is indeed a "genius", this game is still big even for 2020.

    Metal Gear Solid 3 is my favorite Metal Gear game. It takes every idea from MGS2 and expands upon them, while adding a plethora of new ideas as well. One of the newest and best mechanics added to MGS3 is the camouflage system, which was utilized in almost every other Metal Gear game after. The camouflage makes the stealth feel incredible, and the best in the Metal Gear series. TheMetal Gear Solid 3 is my favorite Metal Gear game. It takes every idea from MGS2 and expands upon them, while adding a plethora of new ideas as well. One of the newest and best mechanics added to MGS3 is the camouflage system, which was utilized in almost every other Metal Gear game after. The camouflage makes the stealth feel incredible, and the best in the Metal Gear series. The camouflage indicator tells you how much you blend in each environment, like if your in a grassy area, wear the Flecktarn camouflage, and the Woodland face camo, and you will be practically invisible to the guards around you. Take into account that the version i'm reviewing is MGS3 Subsistence, (not the original Snake Eater) because of the top down view in the original. The version i recommend you play is either Subsistence or MGS3 HD edition, where in both games you can toggle between Subsistence camera, and Snake Eater camera. One of my favorite things about MGS3 is the freedom of gameplay. The gameplay isn't as good as MGS5 or even MGS4, but the jungle setting of Snake Eater offers up a huge stealth playground, you can scare guards off with beehives, you can sneak up behind guards and interrogate them to get a lay of the land. Nowadays this doesn't seem impressive because of MGS5's incredible gameplay. But Snake Eater was the first game to do this and acted as gateway for the rest of the series gameplay advances. Snake Eater was also the first MGS game to implement CQC. I love CQC, especially the one were you throw enemies to the ground, and is a great way to get out of a tight spot. The music is also really solid and completely fits the jungle setting , usually though no music plays, and you just listen to the sounds of the wilderness around you. MGS3 also has some of the best boss fights in any metal gear game, and there are so many ways to beat the bosses. The Ocelot fight, you can shoot the beehives in the trees, and leave him open for a few shots, you can wait for him to reload and shoot him then, you could shoot his hat, etc. Some of the best boss fights are Ocelot, The Fear, The End, Volgin, and The Boss. With the Fear you can use the Fake Death Pill, wait for him to turn around, throw a stun grenade, and shoot him down with an AK-47, or you could equip the thermal goggles, and shoot him on the trees. During The Boss' fight you could equip the thermal goggles and shoot her with the sniper rifle, or you could use my preferred method (the stamina kill) and get with some well timed CQC, stun grenade hits, and MK22 shots. My personal favorite boss though, and one of the best in the entire Metal Gear series. You could kill him early on with the SVD in Ponizovje Warehouse: Exterior, you can set your console clock forward 1 week, you can shoot his parrot which will give you an opportunity to shoot (i could be wrong, i've never tried this method), or you can have an actual fight, sneaking up behind him, following his footprints, listening to the parrot, the fight is incredible. And that's what the game is, and artistic and technical masterpiece. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, but the story is incredible and probably my favorite in the whole series, mainly its the most linear and easy to follow. MGS1 and MGS2 have great stories, but most of the time i get lost when they incorporate current events, government conspiracies, it just gets really messy, MGS3 has a story that;'s easy to follow, and easy to enjoy. The characters are great, and respond to each other incredible well. The relationship between Snake and Eva is great and you genuinely feel bad when either of them get hurt. The relationship between Snake and The Boss though is where the game really shines, and the ending of the game is one of the best in video game history. Even if you don't like the Metal gear series there is just always something to enjoy in this game and i can't recommend it enough. I give this game, a 10 out of 10… Expand

    Literally the best game on the PS2. Great graphics for the time, excellent plot, smooth controls and innovative mechanics. If you haven´t played this game yet do it right now, it barely aged as crazy as that may sound. Hideo Kojima is a mastermind.
