AdamW.Jan 20, 2008The controls are horrible. However the plot did strike a chord with me. The voice actors are also unwisely picked, not matching the characters too well. There weren't any cross hairs for aiming your guns. There's not too much replay value either except for secrets or harder difficulties. In the end it's definitely worth a rent at the very least.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence est le meilleur épisode de la saga Metal Gear. Il est le jeu parfait de par ses graphismes, sa musique ou encore de par son style ! -

ZippyMar 15, 2006Good game, finished it quickly. No replay value at all. P2 needs a stable online system, then it could have scored a 10.

DylanT.Apr 23, 2006I thought the game was a rip off the other metal gear solid games.

-
JesusC.Oct 9, 2007I couldn't stand the setting, the characters, the FPS lag, or the storyline--which didn't have quite the flair of MGS2. It's better off as a rent. You'll beat it once and never go back again (I didn't).

NicholasR.Oct 8, 2008Controls are crap, Visuals look like a ps2 launch title, and the story is a cut-rate spy movie knock-off. I lent this game to three different people who all agree that this is the worst game ever. I have played sudoku on gba and it's still better this game.

RobertoL.Mar 10, 2006MGS is the ultimate videogame that everyone can enjoy. With varying difficulties, gorgeous graphics and one of the best videogame stories ever, this game is a must have for everyone with a pulse.

KromsSomethingMar 5, 2008One of the best games ever made; the story melds perfectly with the gameplay. Metal Gear Solid 3 is one game you'll enter as one person and leave as another. All the satisfaction you'll ever need.

AndyG.Mar 21, 2006even if you don't play many games or you aren't that big a metal gear fan, there's simply no reason not to own this. awesome game to begin with, endless bonus features, online mode, and at $30? please. if you don't buy this, then sell your ps2.

-
MartinM.Mar 23, 2006I strongly disagree with Zippy. This game has almost unlimited replay value due to the online. The PS2 online system is stable (no trouble online with this game), what I think you want is a unififed system (XBox).

-
StickymanM.Mar 27, 2006The Metal Gear series just keeps getting better and better. Even the cheats and extras you don't bother with are far and above anything else out there. I can't get enouth Metal Gear.

MattA.May 15, 2006Very good game. I enjoyed the story and characters a lot... and it was a lot more comprehensible than Metal Gear Solid 2. I loved the whole 1960's twist on the game... and the games cutscene were fairly entertaining. Good game.

MithyusMar 25, 2007It boils down to the fact that MGS3 is like nothing else in gaming world, mixing great gameplay, graphic and sound elements to a majestic way of storytelling. Absolutely, ultimately brilliant.

MichaelN.Mar 14, 2006Fantastic game that deserves maximum scores, honestly. The addition of the online mode is perhaps, one of the greatest additions to the Metal Gear franchise ever since it hit the Playstation.
-
-
DanW.Mar 14, 2006Not a big enough change to warrant buying if you already have MGS3 - and the graphics are decidedly not near "next-gen."

WestonDec 22, 2006Best MGS game in the series, and that says a lot. With the excellent Snake Eater as its premise, and tons of extras, this is one of the best PS2 games ever.

JanneauDec 23, 2007Really one of my favorites, i am and will always be a big fan of the Metal Gear series, Sons of Liberty for me was'nt as great as this one. This one kind of takes you back to those glorious days of the 1st one. I can't believe someone gave it a 6... You must have no taste whatsover... They should ban that guy from playing games, and give him a barbie!

Jul 24, 2011Subsistence adds more content to an already classic game, the addition of the first two MG games is fantastic. The online ( since, i never played) need to be similar to MGS4 but at all cost is incredible. MGS gets better than ever.
-
Jun 13, 2011An excellent enhancement of an already fantastic game that's worth every penny, even to date. Pros: Improved camera system; additional online play; excellent graphics and audio; involving storyline; classic Metal Gear games; lots of bonus material and replay value. Cons: The controls are still quirky; online play takes time to adjust to.

Nov 21, 2011I'm a hardcore gamer, i've played HUNDREDS and hundreds of games, and metal gear solid 3 is on the top of my list. Everything about this game is amazing, from the characters, to the story, to the gameplay, which is nothing new for the series. If you think of yourself as a real, or more hardcore gamer, you definitely need to play this game, as its honestly one of the best i've ever played.

Feb 9, 2014My favorite game of all time. It has solid (no pun intended) gameplay, that few other games come close to today. The camouflage system still works well today. The eating system offers a nice twist. The boss battles are fantastic, the standouts being The End, The Sorrow, and The Boss. The story is among the best, with an extremely emotional ending. This game has to be played by everybody.
-
Mar 30, 2014Incredible how kojima did this, this is the game that wanted an open world jungle with survival aspects, The plot is so deep, typical of Kojima, It has a free camera, face camo, the survival viewer, but the bosses while incredible they just happen you don't have a backstory, it has so many easter eggs, it is in a jungle, Snake eater the song, buy it.
-
Mar 31, 2014This is a no doubter, the best damn Metal Gear game ever! everything the did wrong completely fixed it and made this masterpiece. There is NOTHING wrong with this game! amazing storyline, awesome graphics for the old gen consoles, and the best gameplay for the ps2 times. trust me, if you ever come up with this game, BUY IT! trust me it's worth it.

May 28, 2015My best game in the series. it does everything right like MGS1 did but with better graphics and more gameplay options. some may moan about this games controls but the first games were clumsy as well. but this version includes a 3D camera which makes the experience better. This game also had more gameplay then the others in the series too.
-
Jun 21, 2015The gameplay is fluid and the graphics are some of the best the Playstation 2 has to offer. The plot doesn't break any new ground the way MGS1 and MGS2 did, but it is still an excellent narrative in it's own right. This game is wonderful.

Feb 1, 2020Best game ever made. This is the only "old" game I can still go back to and enjoy it.
Every aspect is masterfully crafted. Gameplay is fun and story is entertaining and meaningful.
Its only flaw is that they closed down the servers for MGO1. -

Dec 16, 2020From my viewpoint this is the best Metal Gear Solid game in the series, The gameplay and graphics from the PS2 is just amazing the boss fights are some of the best in the series, and a boss fight against the End is one of my favorites, I finished it 2 times In 2 days I got all the clothes the first time and I got the Peace Walker trophy the second time, I cannot recommend this game enough

Mar 17, 2017Arguably the best Metal Gear Solid game. I can remember each time I beat it. Maybe I'll play it again soon! Go find some Calorie Mates! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Jul 26, 2017Perfect, just absolutely **** PERFECT, the rest of this review's just so i can get 150 characters in and it's working pretty well. Anyway, play MGS3 any way you can, it's amazing.
-
Aug 28, 2017Perfect in every way from it's gripping and emotional story, to it's humor, to it's stealth/action. One of the hardest games ever to forget and that ending, oh that ending.
10/10 pretty much perfect -
Jan 21, 2020Just finished this masterpiece, everything in this game is great. There are only 2 problems: you can't pause the game during cutscene and story sometimes too complicated, but who cares? it's entertaining and interesting to follow so maybe that's not that big problem to worry about.
Kodjima is indeed a "genius", this game is still big even for 2020. -

Jan 12, 2020Literally the best game on the PS2. Great graphics for the time, excellent plot, smooth controls and innovative mechanics. If you haven´t played this game yet do it right now, it barely aged as crazy as that may sound. Hideo Kojima is a mastermind.
-
Jan 1, 2021Still the magnum opus of MGS series with its cinematic ending. The game had both the best shining qualities and the worst flaws of Hideo
-
Mar 15, 2020The definitive experience of what makes a fine piece of art. Not the simple one. The greatest and reflective of the best o f what a expression of art can bring.

PSM MagazineImproving on one of the best games ever couldn't have been an easy job, but Kojima Productions was able to do it. They packed this director's cut of "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater", a thrilling and cinematic military stealth action game, so full of tweaks and extras, we wish our review scale went to 11. [Apr 2006, p.73]
-
Subsistence's awe-inspiring single-player adventure outclasses every other stealth game in existence, including the previous MGS titles. It's the perfect blend of gripping narrative, nuanced gameplay, astonishing (nearly next-gen) graphics, and creative boss battles. [Apr. 2006, p.98]
-
Subsistence goes a long way towards remedying the few problems of ["Snake Eater"] with a brand new camera system that literally rejuvenates the gameplay. The online mode adds a ton of replay value as well, and has dozens of options to keep you returning to blow away friends late into the night.
