    MGS2 provides the best stealth-action gameplay to date. Many creative tools littered throughout a dense sandbox of enemies. Some of the more challenging bosses in the series, each with a unique spin. Every little detail in this game brings the environment and characters to life, without compromising on the fun.     Amazing acting and unapologetically 'gamey' writing. Being aware of playing this game heightens the immersion. This allows for interesting ideas and themes, including humanity's interaction with information, and the self-insertion of the audience into a piece of fiction.

    A first playthrough may suffer a little from the dual-introduction and some wordy explanations. However, the gameplay and presentation is polished and shows no sign of wear 20 years later. This game reminds me that video games are fun.

    One of, if not, the best (story-based) game in the franchise. Metal Gear Solid 2 is phenomenal at game play and story telling. In my honest opinion, it stands up to games we have today in every aspect. The game has so many twists and can be so enjoyable even if its a cutscene or a codec call. Though I will slightly spoil the game, you do not play as Solid Snake through a lot of this game.One of, if not, the best (story-based) game in the franchise. Metal Gear Solid 2 is phenomenal at game play and story telling. In my honest opinion, it stands up to games we have today in every aspect.     Graphics are great for a game released in 2001, the story is incredibly deep and complex yet has aged like a fine wine, the controls are a bit weird but work really well once you have the hang of them and the gameplay itself is stealth at its arguable finest.     Although I like the first game more, this game is just as good. First of all, the graphics are very good. The atmosphere on board is very good. The characters are still good. Although the level design is a bit repetitive as in the first game, the game progresses in various ways. Jack reminded me of Stave in resident evil code veronica. Lots of dialogue and cut scane. I think it's a nice combination. You feel like the game is playing with you, not as if you are playing a game. A good sequel. I recommend.… Expand

Но геймплей, если его так можно назвать, его нет почти совсем. За исключением битвы с Вампом, и пожалуй все. Плюс ощущение что игра короткая. Да в 2001, для игр это прорыв по части смыслов и киношности, но геймплей при этом пострадал. Но в целом все равно круто. 9 из 10.

    One the best games on the ps2. Everything about it it’s just perfect. The story might be a bit confusing for a newcomer but still I think it’s great. Highly recommend.

Если без шуток, то Кодзима несомненно гений, эта игра на самом деле изменила мою жизнь (не из-за женственности Райдена, клянусь) Повествование истории на высшем уровне, кому-то может показаться что в конце сюжетный поворот с ликвидом оцелотом был немного странным и смешным, но мне это просто взорвало мозг. И так, перейдем к самому главному "минусу" по мнению фанатов - Сам Райден. Если честно, я не совсем понимаю всей этой ненависти в его сторону, отлично прописанный персонаж, который запал мне в душу, как раз таки из-за Джеко-Райдена я познакомился с данной чудесной и прекрасной франшизой.     Never understood the Kojima fandom. The first Metal Gear Solid was good. But somewhere during the making, or between MGS and this one, he must have fallen and slipped, or eaten tons of shrooms.
    His games has since then been goofy as heck. Weird story plots, over the top and comical, downright hilarious villains. (This one has a vampire special soldier.. LOL right?)     This game though is just a slog to play trough. Controls are the same, gameplay likewise.

MGS 2, unlike its predecessor, doesn't waste its time on re-introducing its world to the new generation... Instead, it blows us right through it. This is a game that needs all your attention and believes in you respecting its different exercises. Throughout MGS2 all i was thinking about was what business raiden has to do with this mechanical world, a character filled with life, emotions and questions is thrown into a computer stimulation of an otherworldly phenomenon. MGS 2 broadens our understanding of the Metal Gear world and with an all memorable richly composed epic soundtrack, it ends a saga or chapter in this universe. MGS2 feels like an end but one that is deserved and respected because it didn't waste its resources. Truly a masterpiece that deserved all the attention it gets:, 10/10… Expand

The story is really good and you can see the character development of Raiden, becoming more unsure about himself and doubting everything he took for granted. Beautiful gameplay and the bossfights are god-tier, like the one with Solidus. I discovered this game only recently, and i'm glad i did.… Expand

    A perfect video game in every way. Top tier writing, gameplay is an improvement on the original in every way and feels silky smooth, incredible stealth mechanics that are revolutionary to this day, and beautiful graphics for 2001 standards (and still look good to this day.)

    This game is a masterpiece to the first game that was also a masterpiece. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty features more stealth moves like hanging off railings, first person view mode which is useful for aiming your weapons and hiding in lockers, it also has some of the best cut scenes ever, they're just like watching a film and the music score is the best and is like a movie music score. The main theme music in MGS 2 is my favourite score.

    The Tanker level lets you play as Snake and is the Prolouge to the main mission that features a new hero named Raiden that you will play as in the Big Shell mission, this doesn't mean Snake isn't in it after the Tanker because he is using a false code name called Plisken (Homage to Snake Plissken in Escape from New York) but later he reveals to Raiden he is Solid Snake. The Big Shell mission is set two years after the Tanker incident where Metal Gear Ray was being made, the oil has spilt into the sea and a huge clean up facility called Big Shell has been created around it.

    Raiden (At first using the codename Snake) enters the facility when he gets a call off Colonel Campbell saying his codename has been changed to Raiden, his objectives are to infiltrate the Big Shell and rescue the President, Raiden then discovers that his girlfriend Rose is on this mission as the Data annalist. Once in the elevator Raiden is told that the group that has took over Big Shell are called the Sons of Liberty and the leader of it all is the legendary soldier Solid Snake but it can't be THE Solid Snake because he was killed in the Tanker two years ago. This is the reason why Raiden's codename was changed from Snake to Raiden.

    Of course neither is true because Snake is disguised as a navy seal with the name Plisken so the leader is someone using Snake's codename, it also seems a group called Dead Cell (Similar to Special Forces FOXHOUND) are in Big Shell, they all have their own skills, Vamp has the skills to dodge bullets and run on water with quick speed while also drinking blood like a Vampire, Fortune has the power to reflect any projectile fired at her and Fatman has the the skill to create bombs. Also their is another Cyborg Ninja that is in Big Shell and is using the codename of Mr. X.

    Ocelot is also in Big Shell working with the leader of the Sons of Liberty, the leader is Solidus Snake one of the clones from Big Boss and is Solid Snake's brother.

    Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a great game with a superb plot that is full of twists. This is a game that should be played. 10/10    … Expand

It wouldn’t be until 7 years later that Metal Gear Solid 4 fixed the mess this game created. Only good parts were the Tanker chapter and Arsenal Gear. Everything else is nonsensical garbage. Ypu would be better off playing the first Metal Gear Solid or Snake Eater and Gujs Of TheTerrible sequel to Metal Gear Solid. It didn’t really contribute much to the series and plays like ass. It wouldn’t be until 7 years later that Metal Gear Solid 4 fixed the mess this game created. Only good parts were the Tanker chapter and Arsenal Gear. Everything else is nonsensical garbage.     Kojima se nos rie en la cara, no todo es lo que parece. No solo pule las mecánicas del juego anterior sino que profundiza en la jugabilidad y las posibilidades que tiene el jugador. Posiblemente el Metal Gear Solid mas deconstructor y profético de todos.

    Awesome game! There are simply no words to describe the admiration for this game. The game allows you to empathize with the heroes and hate some at the same time. The breaks of the fourth wall are generally a head dump. I wish every person to play and enjoy this masterpiece from Hideo Kojima!

    Ahead of it’s time as usuall when it’s Metal gear, the graphics, soundtrack and cinamatics but most importantly the small details + revoultionary moments and dialog in this nearly masterpiece, only nearly cuz of the protaginist Raiden, you can’t replace Solid Snake especially with a femboy + the antagonists a huge downgrade to those in MGS 1

Level design sets the quality bar for years to come — sandbox-type closed stealth arenas with vigilant guards and lots of kinds of interaction with environment. A huge step forward from more arcade MGS 1 . Graphics is top notch for those times, all the small visual details such as realtime melting ice cubes, steam from the mouth, flies revolving around light sources and etc., appear not so often in videogames even nowadays.

    Besides, all OSTs are extremely beautiful and atmospheric . Even that standing out jazzy RnB song in the end credits was something.

Now I realize that the writer/creator Hideo    When I played this as a teenager, I actually thought it was the best game i'd ever played. Now 20 years later, as an adult its flat out ludicrous.
    The plot of the game seemed really thick and intriguing, but now it comes off as a bad conspiracy theory meant only to rope you in to the next video (think Alex Jones) or in this case the next game. Now I realize that the writer/creator Hideo Kojima put this plot twists just to play with you.
    Speaking of the plot, it mostly deals with dated Cold War politics and deals out generic corporate/ military jargon, and it all adds up to a giant agile robot that supposedly shoots nuclear missiles. But can be destroyed by a single guy with a rocket launcher. This aspect has especially aged poorly since a nuclear launch may very well be launched from smartphone tech. To be fair the giant robot thing is steeped in Japanese culture, especially in old films, but putting it in a spy game just doesn't seem to work well.

    The controls are terrible and I can partly attribute that to the terrible broken X-Box controller with its dead spot analog sticks. You'll end up hitting the wrong button and fall to your death, and have to do a section of the game totally over.

    The game introduces poor characters, then has no problem disposing of them quickly. Its supposed to be emotional, but after playing MGS1, MGS2 and MGS4 you realize that its a way to do the same thing over and over again.

    The gameplay takes a backseat to endless exposition and codec dialog that feels like it never ends (hence endless). Believe me it goes on and on and on.

    Then there is the midsection of the game where you hold E.E by the hand and escort her while trying to be stealthy

    Introducing the "stealth" mechanics part of this game: After playing for a while, you start to realize that the enemies wander in a ridiculously simple repetitive pattern making getting around them very easy you just have to wait for the right moment. BUT WAIT DERS MORE. Actually its easier to just tranque them and cheese it, by leaving the section and returning. If you don't, there are points in the game where you'll by instantly spotted by enemies because its so unclear where thy are. Yes a lot of places are well done but some are so poor its worth mentioning.

    I know i complained a lot here, but there is some fun to be had so its not all a lost cause.    … Expand

    I will never forget my first playthrough, words cannot convey why this game is a masterpiece. MGS 2 can be considered an improved version of MGS 1, this masterpiece made MGS 1 faster and more comfortable (let's be honest, in many PS1 games the control sucks).

    This is the game that blew my mind back in the day, and i was so much in the story. You play as Raiden(mostly) and not Snake in the game, but that does not play the game any worse.

    I enjoyed all of it, and the style of movie that Kojima makes in this game, left me speechless.

    I loved this game, 10/10 without a doubt.

    One of the best games ever made in my book

    Right now it is a really old game and The control is really bad and clumbsy but if you want to enjoy a good story game with som nice sneaking action, I would highly recomend this. At the time (2001), there wasn't any game out there that could challange the graphics. The humor is also fun, if you are a person who don't get offended easy.

    I recomend Play MGS3, MG, MG2, MGS1 before this one, to me this is the best of the whole saga, raiden is a good protagonist, not better than Snake or Big Boss, but he get's the job done

    This game has stood the test of time like no other in my opinion. It had beautiful graphics, great characters and story. I can still play MGS2 and enjoy it as much as anything that comes out today. The biggest hate people have with it was having to play as Raiden the majority of the game. I just thought playing as Raiden added to the strength of Snakes character, later in the game when you play with Snake at your side, he is stronger, faster, has more health and a better aim than Raiden so is a great moment. But then you are tasked with taking down multiple Metal Gears, which makes Raiden a bit of a badass himself. If you research the amount of small details that went into this game as well as how many new game mechanics this game introduced, you'd be hard pressed to find a better game.    … Expand

    The gameplay is more or less an updated version of MGS 1 with an even vaster attention to detail. I generally prefer the original from a gameplay standpoint (for whatever reason) but I can acknowledge that this is definitely an improvement from an objective standpoint. Story wise, this game constantly challenged my mind, asking questions from "Did I just slip in bird **** to "What the hell am I gonna do with my life?" Anyway, good game. Thanks for the existential crisis, Kojima.

Kojima made some very risky decisions when it came to this game but when looking back at the series as a whole, its apparent that these decisions gave us some of his best work to date. The only issue I faced was the controls, the original MGS' controls worked perfectly (In my opinion) due to the fact that they fit with the gameplay, whereas MGS2s' controls and gameplay don't seem to fit as well as I would have hoped. This games controls are very similar to the original MGS' controls while adding a few new features such as the first person aiming system. This new aiming system combined with the original tank controls adds what I would call an awkward layer of difficulty that can turn away a few new players to this incredible game.… Expand

    The story for this game is very underrated. It is too complex and convoluted for sure. But the themes and insight explored are just ahead of its time as video game. And the gameplay was fun. The bosses were inventive. Amazing characters and story. Definitely one of the best MGS entries imo.

The rage from not playing as Snake is gone, and I’ve grown to like Raiden and the plot of this game. The then-controversial “This is actually Raiden under a mask that resembles Snake” is now iconic. The story is marvelous it may be hard to understand at first, but it is so clever how it is done with many twists and turns and I don't think I have ever said "what the **** so many times in my life while playing this game. And the story is actually a believable story in the real world and makes you think so ****ing hard it's honestly incredible. It also has a brilliant message. The characters are brilliant too with the exception of maybe 1 or 2. At first, Raiden (the main protagonist) isn't that great and you want to be playing as Snake and not him. But by the end you understand why he's put in this game. Raiden is you, the player. He reacts how you does and the game would be different if you played as Snake. He is also a well developed character in my opinion. I can't praise this game enough, anyone who says this is the worst in the series is wrong.     Boss fights are a letdown, too few and far between.
    Just becomes a movie by the end but this is something the game has "trained" you to accept at this point.

In Metal Gear Solid 2, it is the story itself that is good. TheMetal Gear Solid 2 is hard to judge. On the one hand, it has bad camera and controls, in addition to overall poor gameplay. On the other hand, it offers -by video game standards- an awesome story (that you can now relate to much more after so many years of release), cool cutscenes and graphics that still hold up today. In Metal Gear Solid 2, it is the story itself that is good. The storytelling, however, is hard to follow and disrupts gameplay. You will have 10 minutes of game followed by a cutscene sometimes as long as 20+ minutes, or at the very least a “phone call” where you have to listen to a long dialogue. The game was heavily criticized for having to play with Raiden throughout most of the game, as opposed to Snake, but that did not actually bother me much. For the particular narrative, I think it was the right call.

    In short, I think Metal Gear Solid 2 is very strong in some areas. The problem is you have to tolerate its shortcomings. I would definitely suggest to play it on easy difficulty. In the case of MGS 2, gameplay is often a disruption to otherwise a very good experience.

    A truly brilliant game. This game is crazy. The story keeps changing. Just when you think you have it sussed they throw you back into the deep end.

    Raiden is a very good character for me and with a very deep story,the bosses are not as good as the first one but still very interesting and the story is very deep and good.

    I'm not sure how people can claim this is the "best game on the ps2", but different strokes for different folks. I think the game is average at best. The controls are horrid and never 100% responsive, the stealth options are extremely limited, and for a video game, you don't spend much time actually playing the game. It's an okay package overall, and the story has it's interesting moments, but as it goes on, it goes more and more into territory where you will love it or hate it, and by the end, the core premise and the reasons for everything have changed so many times, that it just loses itself in it's attempts at complexity. It would have made for a much better book due to it's game play being maybe 2-3 hours out of the 15 hour experience.… Expand

    my gaming has made me soo happy compaired to the boring current games.. ~~I'm not saying my PS4 & Xbox1 & Steam suck,,im saying that I was bored..     The words & edges we're all blurry and bleeding like textures..
    I got the monster super thick component cable on ebay for $6. and 5 shipping..
    11 DOLLARS TO MAKE MY PS2 HIGH DEPH! it please me so much 6that is why im sharing the story in this corny level of detail...
    ~~So today I bought MGS2.. And not only is it the original case but the booklet is supe thick too..
    like 80 pages and I think it has a comic boo inside it too..
    **but the deal sweetner was a postcard hologram insert from Hideo Kajima..
    I couldn't believe this was still inside the case...
    This type of cool happenings is why im enjoying buying these odler games now..
    **I played MGS V about 2-3 years ago & put in about 1800 hours between FOB + campaign whatevs..
    And I'd say MGS2 with it's campy 'area-setup' is amazing..
    I haven't played a older MGS game since Patriots and im super stoked to jump back in..

    ****I would say ive offered a blueprint into how a PS2 game can be playable in 2019...

    * I DID PLAY THIS BACK IN 2002'ish.. that was almost 18 years ago!!!
    I remember it being a longer game then the typical at the time..i woulda retaed it a 10 back then.

    The environments are amazing, when on the deck of the tank the rain effects are extremely lifelike, along with rain drops hitting the ship and characters.
