When you get into the game you're gonna experience a major case of "been there, done that" if you're an experienced Tony Hawk player...Other than that, Mat 2 is a killer game. [Sept 2002, p.148]
  2. The updated engine and trick system make for plenty of fun, but the irritating level setup will make all but the burliest riders drop their controllers in annoyance. However, this game is on the right track.
  3. A sound choice that will not disappoint.

Offers no major surprises but plenty of refinements to a proven formula. It’s a major improvement over the first game.
  5. More beautiful than the game’s musical bliss however, is the controls.
  6. A solid game, but I just wish it brought more to the genre as far as originality.
  7. Slick, professional and realistic, but punctured by familiarity and frustrating controls. [PSM2]
  8. There's no question that it brings a lot more to the table (in every department) than the previous (PSX) version, but it still isn't perfect.
  9. Only pick this up if your are crazy for the O2 series of video games or are new to the genre.

This would have been more fun, and no less replayable, if Rainbow had dialed down the difficulty a little bit.
  11. The visuals and sound are very well done, as the only drawback to the game is that it is very difficult to pull off tricks at times.

Hoffman's sequel is so advanced - not just graphically - that it makes the first game feel like a bike with no chain. [Sept 2002, p.113]

Its improvements to the series are substantial. [Sept 2002, p.30]
  14. It’s also a pretty damn good piece of extreme sports interactive heaven, with sweet graphics and tight control at the service of one heck of a well-coded engine.
  15. Apart from having cool flatland tricks and an interesting road-trip theme, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 is rather stale.
  16. A massive improvement over the previous Mat Hoffman title on the PSone. It’s nothing too original and it does have its flaws.
