PSM MagazineEnemy AI is practically non-existent, but combined with the mostly straightforward level designs, it all plays reasonably well and slips by painlessly. [Sept 2004, p.26]
-
Malice is, from top to bottom, about as standard and, unfortunately, boring a platformer as you can find. None of it is bad, but sadly, nothing about Malice is fun, interesting, exciting, new, or worth your thirty bucks.
-
Malices shunning of virtually anything complicated leaves a game that will allow easy access for non-gamers looking for something thats easy going, artistically charming and amusing in a smutty, simplistic way and at half the price of a regular release, is probably as low risk as it gets.
-
It provides absolutely nothing that hasn't been seen and done countless times before and done better at that. Unless you're absolutely rapt with morbid curiosity about how Malice ultimately turned out, your time and money are definitely best spent elsewhere.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineA mediocre game, not a bad one. However, when you consider how far short it fell of its original promise, it comes across as less than average. [Sept 2004, p.97]
-
Sounds completely average and inconsequential, plus it lacks the Xbox versions Dolby 5.1 support.
-
Cheat Code CentralTo be honest it's not even as good a game as "Super Mario 3," which is a big disappointment since the game has been in production for more than four years...Overall the game is much too simple. The average gamer could blast through this in a day.
-
TotalGames.netThis is an average platformer. Everything from the double jump and the by-the-book boss fights to the pickups and the 'special moves' feel...well...overused.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThe gameplay is the equivalent of chewing a piece of gum all afternoon - inoffensive, but you just want to spit it out after a while. [Sept 2004, p.99]
-
Malice is so generic and mediocre that its release only serves to spoil what little status it had as the punchline of a joke.
-
AceGamezLastly, for some reason, the rumble feature with the controller is done way too much. The controller shakes during this game more than any other PS2 game I've ever played and all I did was jump.
