It's been developed so that the more you play it, the more you enjoy it. And there's enough depth and unlockables--not to mention a two-player mode--that this one is far less likely to collect dust than any other racers you may have in your collection.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyIt's "SSX Tricky" on water. [Jan 2003, p.176]
-
Performing stunts is easy -- almost too easy, if you ask me.
-
GMR MagazineMore extreme sports fun, but this time it's all wet. Finishing is only half the battle: performing tricks factors into the final standings. [Feb 2003, p.92]
-
Doesnt offer anything new to players who have played "Wave Race" and "Jet Moto."
-
Game InformerAn uneventful, but not altogether unenjoyable racing game that fails to distinguish itself from the pack. [Dec 2002, p.120]
-
If youre looking for a technically gorgeous title that truly shows off the depth of its environments to the limits of the system hardware, X2O does a beautiful job of giving the player amazing water effects.
-
Features some great tracks and can be fun to play at times, but it does not have the challenge or features to give it real staying power.
-
A good middle-of-the-road trick-based racer that should please fans of the genre, and it's an accessible entry point for newcomers as well.
-
The lack of creative ideas and thinking made this a pretty bland watercraft game.
-
A knockoff game but one well enough done in the abscence of a new version of the game it's imitating to warrant your time.
-
Would have appeared more innovative and garnered a higher Fun Factor rating if not for its blatant similarities in presentation, features, competition modes, FMVs, and even screen layouts with "SSX Tricky."
-
Doesn't really try to do anything new at all, and so it comes off as just another basically average and forgettable game.
-
I thought this game was fun... for 10 minutes. Every time I fired the game up I really wanted to see that "SSX Tricky" splash screen instead. "SSX" is just a lot more fun and satisfying.
-
Id liken Jet X20 to playing a not as much fun or polished version of "SSX."
-
A solid, fun addition to the extreme water sports genre. Borrowing liberally from "SSX's" winning bag of tricks, the game proves entertaining, if not innovative.
-
Thoroughly under-produced, lacking balance and sophistication. Problems with accessibility and core gameplay combine with a confusing, illogical level design and an uninspiring back-story to create a game that I wouldn't recommend.
-
PSM MagazineThe characters are designed to attempt coolness; instead, they just say unfunny one-liners to each other - that's inexcusable. [Holiday 2002, p.54]
-
Unfortunately, frustrating AI, boring course variety, and uninspired tricks give this game a slightly above average, generic feel.
-
Jet is not a wolf in sheep's clothing, it's a sheep in sheep's clothing. It's just what you would expect and nothing more.
-
Decent graphics and gameplay aside, it just isn't terribly fun, and we've already seen a lot of these gameplay ideas in better games like the "SSX" series.
-
Any sense of coolness quickly evaporates as soon as you pick up a controller as Jet X2O suffers from a control scheme that is twitchier than a two year old on speed.
-
Where Jet X20 falls short is in providing a single, consistent experience. The way racing and tricking are implemented, it is impossible to concentrate on both at the same time.
-
Lack of online play, so-so visuals, and familiar gameplay doesnt really bode well in the end.
-
A solid attempt at watercraft racing that will satisfy less demanding players, but it's a hard game to recommend when earlier games in the genre have done just about everything better.
-
Official U.S. Playstation Magazine"SSX" looked better two years ago, and the water comes nowhere near equaling that in last year's "Splashdown." [Dec 2002, p.160]
