    Brilliant Game!! I am no pro at video games...this is the first game I have ever been able to complete. If you love to play video games...but you're not a pro....this is the game for you!! The game is not all easy.....but the free roaming let me venture so that I never got STUCK! The only downfall to this game.....is now I am spoiled, and cannot find another platform game that lives Brilliant Game!!     How could anybody not love this game it is sooo cool. It makes me laugh a lot. So much better than the crash games it is not even funny.

    I think that this game is AWESOME!!! And by awesome I mean leaving me in awe and wonder. The challenges never cease! I like the graphics, i like the plot, I like the characters, I like everything! Although I am only on the Boggy Swamp level, I have read all ablout the future levels. I am so excited that they are going to have a Jak and Daxter 2. I am really pumped. And to the people that I think that this game is AWESOME!!! And by awesome I mean leaving me in awe and wonder.     Best game ever! 100% all the way! It is challenging yet easy and fun to play. Great grapics, characters, and story line. I hope Sony PS2 (not another system) will continue to make Jak games forever! BEST GAME!!!!

    The first time I reviewed this I was a bit harsh. An 8 on the beginning game that started one of my favourite video game franchises of all time. Granted the storyline is a bit cliché but everything else about this game is AMAZING. The characters, the missions (while a bit infuriating at times though mostly brilliant), the areas (Precursor Basin anyone? While Jak 3 is definitely my favourite of the trilogy, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy just comes in at second!… Expand

    Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy did what Banjo-Kazooie did on the N64: introduced everyone to whole new world and a grand, whacky adventure. Pros: Beautiful graphics; excellent controls, camera, and sound; fantastic level design; no loading screens; funny characters; generic, but plain old fun 3-D platforming. Cons: Too short, too easy; average soundtrack; you can't play as Daxter.

    This is the best video game ever made. The visuals are stunning, the story is entertaining, the gameplay is excellent, the characters are lovable and funny, the music/soundtrack is beautiful. Everything about this game is perfect. I love this game!!

    This is one of my favourite platformer games. The game is completely open world with no loading times and has a great story. The difficulty scales up just perfectly, and the bosses are well balanced. Over all it's a unique experience I'd recommend to try out.

    One of the best games I've ever played. I got the game years ago when it came out, and I've beaten it around ten times now. It truly is one of the best platformers of all time.

    A well made game to say the least. Fun and I love the miniquest system. Very innovative and original. I applaud Naughty Dog for this game. A fun game to get a series going.

    So many colors! i love how many colors they put in this game, and how beautiful it is watching it turn from day to noon to evening to night, killin' enemies,platforming and collecting stuff. than collect stuff and sell it to get more stuff, killing enemies to unlock stuff that unlocks more stuff to get more stuff. beautiful...just...beautiful.

    I love the PS2 plat formers and this is one is soaked in charm, a beautiful, slick controls and awesome plat forming. Most of the game revolves around collecting power cells in order to get to the next area so you can return Daxter back to his human form. This game looks beautiful and has aged very well mostly due to it's art style and the many interesting areas with no load screens in between that all have its own distinct fell and atmosphere. This game does have a few minor issues the biggest being the length of the story could finish this game easily in a week and the game's difficulty although it has a very good ramp is still won't be challenging enough for some gamers. Sometimes you might get a little lost in an area and a map would be great for each area, If you have a PS2 this is a must own along with it's squeals. Do not dismiss this as a kids game you will end up having some of your greatest gaming memories with Jak and Daxter.… Expand

    Back in 2001, this was the best game created and one of the most creative games I've played. It still holds a special place in my heart and its how I got into the Jak and Daxter series. Its also one of my first PS2 games I bought. An amazing game indeed!!

    The art style is amazing! The graphics are insanely detailed. But the character models do seem to be very simple although this could be because the game is so huge.     My personal favorite of the Jak series to be honest. I loved the route they took with this game and it was a lot of fun to playthrough as a little kid. I still play it every once in a while, it's a lot of fun!

    This game is amazing, one of the best platformers of all time. The characters are really fun, especially Daxter. The gameplay is great, the story is decent (Daxter gets transformed into a combination of an otter and a weasel and so Jak and Daxter go to find a cure), the environments are really well done and the adventure is probably one the best you'll ever have. And no loading screens!

    Jak and Daxter is the game that do what nintendon't do with The Legend of Zelda. Just incridible, a game made with love and time, and is one of the most innovative of the generation. Congratulations to Sony.

    How could somebody give this game a negative! This game is packed with amazing aesthetics and wild and vast landscapes. The amount of effort put into this 2001 classic is amazing! Here I am sitting with my PS3 playing all these amazing games with outstanding graphics and I still enjoy challenging myself with this first Jak and Daxter game! If you gave this game a negative go #%&$ yourself!

    Naughty Dog’s new IP, Jak and Daxter is one of the very best platformers I have ever played. It’s hard to believe that this game used all of the PS2’s architecture to ensure that there are no loading screens or texture pop ins during the game’s development.

    Open world, not a mission to mission linear style of gameplay/storytelling. Amazing platforming experience, gradual difficulty curve and variable areas/challenges available. The players is free to explore and wander. Gorgeous visuals that will stay with me for a long time.

Every bone in my body tells me that the answers rest on the shoulders, a young boy, oblivious to his destiny, uninterested in the search for truth and regeneralting of my guidence! And why would he wanted to listen to old Samos the Sage anyway? I'm only the master of green echo, one of the wisest men on the planet! So it seems the answer begins not with careful research or sensible thinking. Hey, as with many of fate's mistery's, it begins with porter smallight of disobidence.
    I just gotta say that I love Jak and Daxter because it's really nostalgic and really easy. My friend Jacob played on it as well and the main characters Jak and Daxter, my name is Jack as well. I completed it years ago and the only thing I was thinking about unlocking the cutscenes but my brother Daniel says to me ''I don't think it doesn't do that'' but oh well, at least I know the scenes. When I was kid I fxxking loving it. I love the graphics, the gameplay, the characters and the music! It's just awsome! It's just so atmospheric. If I'm not playing Mario 64, Sonic Generations, or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, then it's this game.     This game is a masterpiece of graphic art and challenging gameplay, I was raised on PS2 and this is the first game I played

    Pros: no load times, beautiful graphics, addictive, simple, easy to play, hard to master,

    Cons: (enter hater here)

    If you like this game try Ratchet and Clank, uncharted, and the rest of the Jak and Daxter franchise (including Jak X combat racing)

    I'm sorry, but move over Mario! Because for me, this is the best platformer ever made and one of my favourite games of all time. All in this game is just perfect for me: The gameplay, the carachters, the humor, the graphics... All in this piece of art of gaming makes me feel as a kid every time I play it. I cannot recommend it more, just play it if you haven't! You won't regret it.

It is sad that there are no games today with replay value as high as any of the Jak games. Everything from the art to the level design is astonishing for 2001, like it has no loading screens...

    The only real negative I can find with this game is a little slow down here and there. It's so awesome that there is no loading ever during gameplay. It's such a massive world. It's closely resembles Mario 64, although not quite as much of a classic.

    A little bit difficult sometimes but....Focus on the game, give it a half hour, and you'll end up playin' this game all nite until 6 am, like i did.
    A master´piece, and in contrast to the PS2'S CRASH BANDICOOT LOADING TIMES, WORTHY OF THE XV CENTURY INQUISITION'S TORTURE TECHNIQUES, JAK AND DAXTER DON'T HAVE A SINGLE LOADING TIME IN THE WHOLE GAME. SUPERB.

    This game is amazing- the levels are giant, the acting is actually good, and it is challenging. This game reminds me of the Spyro the Dragon series- you help someone, and in return you get want you are searching for (Like helping them so they will give you a dragon egg).

    I finished the game with 101 power cells so I didn't get the secret ending, which I would have got with 100 or less. This disappointed me when I played all the game and only had 99% at the end. What a bummer! I suppose I'll just have 2 play it again. p.s My boyfriend think's Daxter is amazingly hilarious! lol

    I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!! It is so amazing. The animation is gorgeuos, and the game is so unbeiliveibly imaginative. It's a little too long and challenging, but it is a beautiful game. It is so fun. If you don't have it, get it.

    Jak and Daxter: The Percursor Legacy is a good game. First off, the game is lovely to look at and the 3D design of the levels was definitely revolutionary at the time. The game is huge (considering it is an early PlayStation 2 game) with multiple areas to explore. You need to collect a certain amount of Power Cells which can be obtained by doing tasks (like doing jobs for the locals) orJak and Daxter: The Percursor Legacy is a good game. First off, the game is lovely to look at and the 3D design of the levels was definitely revolutionary at the time. The game is huge (considering it is an early PlayStation 2 game) with multiple areas to explore. You need to collect a certain amount of Power Cells which can be obtained by doing tasks (like doing jobs for the locals) or finding them dotted around the area which then can be used to advance to the next area. The 2 main characters, Jak and Daxter are likable although Daxter can get on my nerves sometimes (although his voice actor is awesome) and Jak doesn't talk. This game is a nice, traditional platformer with obstacles like Dark Eco crates, nicely designed enemies and pitfalls. Jak (the main character you play as) has a variety of moves to help him fight like a punch, dive and spin attack (Like Crash Bandicoot, another game made by Naughty Dog) to help him fight his enemies. He also can charge himself with a variety of powers vented from Eco Vents like Red Eco will make Jak stronger, Orange Eco can make him shoot fireballs and Blue Eco can make him operate special platforms. The bosses are simple but cool to fight. You can also ride in a zoomer which serves as some vehicle sections over lava pits which are interesting. The script can also pop out some comedy moments especially from Daxter and the voice acting for each character is spot on. The end boss is also epic. The game does become difficult due to the fact that checkpoints are spaced out and quite rare but Jak and Daxter is an enjoyable game that fans of platformers can't miss!… Expand

The story is pretty deep, the characters were good, and the dialog is humorous, if you're below the age of 8. If you've got a kid looking for a first game, this is just the best way to go.     This game is graphically beautiful, and the environments reach perfection. Daxter is a very funny sidekick, and the game gave me some good laughs. Daxter will try to do CPR or something on you when you die, and he yells like you're leaving forever. Jak is interesting, with his athletic techniques. Unfortunately, I couldn't give this game a 10 because it's fairly short and leaves you wanting more.

    One of my favorite 3D platformers as a kid, and one of my favorite ps2 games, this is a classic platformer you shouldnt miss out on. Great gameplay, funny dialog and jokes, good story, awesome graphics, good music, and an overall experience that keeps you playing start to finish, and keeps you sucked in the whoel time. I really enjoy this game, and i reccommend it to any ps2 owner out there.

To progress through the game you need to collect power cells, similar to Super Mario's stars, which may be a turn off to some. The games biggest achievement however has to be its large, detailed world, full of places to explore, people to meet, things to collect and secrets to uncover, all without any load times. The game falls short however in some areas, mainly its length and replay value. It may take between 8 - 10 hours, depending on how avid a collector you are, and when you finish there is little else to do game play wise, except...collect...Though you can always pass the time running around taking in your surroundings, narrated by Daxter, your likeable, if somewhat annoying sidekick. At the end of the day, this game lives up the the hype built up around its release, and makes the most out of the PS2's engine, despite its lack of any real originality.… Expand

The game doesn't really do much to let the player know how close they are to completing the game until you kinda of just stumble into the antagonist's lair and stop them, but considering that earlier games didn't do much to tell a story; this is still a big step foward. Overall, Jak and Daxter is a great game, and anyone who ownes a PS2 or PS3 should definatly try it (maybe not on the PSVita though).… Expand

    After naughty dog was bored with the Crash Bandicoot games from the PS1, the PS2 came out and they went with a new IP. That IP was Jak and Daxter. Jak is a silent protagonist (not really a fan of those) with anime hair and elf ears and daxter is his comic relief sidekick. They live on some made up unnamed alien world full of other elf people. They go this island with evil tribes/cultistsAfter naughty dog was bored with the Crash Bandicoot games from the PS1, the PS2 came out and they went with a new IP. That IP was Jak and Daxter. Jak is a silent protagonist (not really a fan of those) with anime hair and elf ears and daxter is his comic relief sidekick. They live on some made up unnamed alien world full of other elf people. They go this island with evil tribes/cultists named Gol and Maya who plan to do generic bad guy stuff (take over the world) bad stuff happens and daxter falls into a pool of this "evil element" called dark Eco and turns into a otter weasel hybrid called an ottsel. So Jak and Daxter adventure across the world to stop Gol and Maya from consuming the world with dark Eco and turn daxter back into a little elf guy like everyone else. They get help from Samos the green sage and his daughter Keira. The story is better than most other platformers, but still nothing amazing. That isn't a criticism as nobody plays platformers for the story anyway. The gameplay is just like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, you run and jump around open environments, completing challenges, solving puzzles, whacking silly enemies, getting power ups, occasional vehicle levels, all for the purpose of collecting some valued item (in this case power cells) and you have to unlock a certain amount to open new areas. Nothing new, but this game does it extremely well. After all a game doesn't to be innovative to be a masterpiece. The controls are perfectly solid, but the game was surprisingly easy. There where a few tricky power cells to get, but compared to Jak II this game is a cakewalk. The challenge more often lies in figuring where the power cells are rather than actually getting them. The levels are extremely diverse and each one has it's own unique challenges to complete. The enemies are okay, there very small and only takes one or two smacks to kill. There are 3 bosses, the first 2 are good enough, but the final boss is epic, I won't spoil it. The graphics are absolutely mind blowing for a game made in 2001. It looks way better than other 2001 games like gta 3 and halo combat evolved. The environments are extremely colorful and vibrant and all the textures look very detailed. For such a big colorful and seamless open world, there's surprising lack of glitches, loading screens, texture pop in etc. So a lot of time was put into polishing the game so it works the way it should. If you like platformers than this is an easy buy, especially if you like collectathon style ones like mario 64 and banjo kazooie. It's nothing terribly original, but it does refine everything the other games do so seamlessly. I'm still waiting for Jak and Daxter 4 naughty dog. Come one your making an uncharted 4, make a Jak and Daxter 4!!!… Expand

    This game is pure nostalgia for me, being a little kid when this came out, and playing through it all once more 10 or so years from when I first did is still an amazing experience, to anyone with a Ps2 this is a must buy platformer that still holds up very nicely in terms of graphics and smooth seamless game play, with almost no loading times between areas.     Fun platformer from Naughty Dog the creators of the Crash Bandicoot and Uncharted series. The open world environments with no loading times was impressive as well as the visual achievements/ polygon counts. It's probably one of the better platformers for the PS2.

    The plot of the game is fairly simple, your companion gets into trouble and you are sent on an adventure to find a way to return him to normal, of course this doesn't quite go to plan and the person capable of helping your friend, instead decides to rule the world, it is, admittedly a simple set up, and most of the characters are 1-Dimensional, but it serves its purpose well and gives the player a good enough reason to set off on their adventure. And what an adventure it is. You will cross through fiery canyons, snowy mountains, jungles, underground temples and swamplands. Each of these areas are brilliantly designed with different challenges ranging from punching a pelican to navigating a snowy fort. The game has very smooth controls with each move easily flowing into another, and allowing a more experienced player to navigate the levels more efficiently, which is a nice reward for those willing to understand the games mechanics. The game adds some variety in the form of a hoverbike and a bird that Jak can ride on to navigate areas differently and completely missions which would otherwise be impossible. While these are integrated nicely into the game and control just fine, it would have been nice if they were used in more levels, for more tasks as opposed to being in restricted areas. Along with this are some absolutely beautiful visuals, while not quite as polished as the sequels, the visual variety, excellent texture work, and fantastic lighting system make each level distinguished from each other, whilst still looking natural. The soundtrack of the game is generally understated and not the most memorable unfortunately, it works well to create an ambience within the levels, but none of the music is too catchy, which is a shame. Overall this is an excellent game that is a must play for fans of the platforming genre.    … Expand

La ausencia de pantallas de carga en un juego de mundo abierto conectado, con los gráficos increíbles (que han envejecido bien por cierto) y elJak And Daxter 1 es un grandioso videojuego de plataformas, que no tiene nada que envidiarle a la trilogía de Crash Bandicoot y se nota que se ha hecho para conmemorarlo por haber perdido los derechos del personaje (que triste historia por cierto). La ausencia de pantallas de carga en un juego de mundo abierto conectado, con los gráficos increíbles (que han envejecido bien por cierto) y el ciclo día y noche en pleno 2001 hacen de este uno de los juegos mas hermosos que jamas he visto. La música combina muy bien con los escenarios y te recordara a Crash Bandicoot, de hecho, casi todo te recordara a Crash Bandicoot, los movimientos del personaje, las habilidades, etc. Los de Naughty Dog si supieron adaptar la jugabilidad clásica del marsupial y mezclarlo con conceptos jugables como los de Banjo Kazooie u otros plataformeros 3d de la epoca, mejorando su base. La historia va muy de la mano con la ambientacion "antigua/futurista" que tanto me gusta ver en un juego y esto se expanderia todavía mas en futuras secuelas. Por cierto, la relación entre ambos protagonistas es increíble, Daxter es un personaje muy original que te cae bien. Tengo que criticar el no poder mover la cámara arriba o abajo, la corta duración, y la falta de rejugabilidad al terminar el juego. Es un juego BASTANTE corto, lo pude terminar en 2 días... Ademas de ciertas misiones algo aburridas y tediosas... Por estos errores, creo que sigue sin superar a la tetralogia de Crash Bandicoot, aunque esta es mi opinión. Uno de mis videojuegos favoritos y lo puedo recomendar a todo fan de los plataformas. Jak And Daxter 1 es el verdadero Crash Bandicoot a mundo abierto, y define como tendría que ser una futura entrega del marsupial.… Expand

    This is an absolutely beautiful game for its time, it has decent controls, [even if there's no option to flip the camera & a slightly faulty double jump] and a nice storyline. The Only flaw is that it's a bit easier than I'd like, but atleast there's no cheap deaths. [Or load time!] Overall, this game is beautiful and well made with few flaws.

And now let's start with the review: Gameplay - The game Jak and Daxter has survived the test of time well and is still fun to play and it feels very accurate with my pressures. But the camera is a bit frustrating sometimes, sometimes it happens that I press the jump button and Jak does not jump and then I fall off a platform or hit me at the jump speed. And despite these two flaws the gameplay is just a smooth and clean flow that you can not stop enjoying just walking around the big stages and jumping. Final score - 9/10 Plot - The main plot of the game is almost non-existent, but it is fun and entertaining. The characters are funny and fun to listen to in-game dialogues, maybe they are pretty silly and not fascinating in any way but in my opinion a fascinating plot in a platform game is something that is nice but not as important as gameplay and stage design. Final score - 7/10 Stage design - The stage design in a simple game is amazing, there is variety from one stage to another, for example at one stage you will be on a beautiful beach with lots of green surroundings and at another stage you will be on a snowy mountain. The details in each stage, the various obstacles, enemies and gimmicks add a lot to each stage and there were times I wondered what would await me in the next stage. Final score 10/10 Graphics - The graphics in the game are simply beautiful (even today) and it stands the test of time. All the details and colors in all stages, the characters that look great even today, and in general it's amazing how a game from the PlayStation 2 looks beautiful graphically even 3 generations later, it's true it can not cope with today's graphics but it looks amazing both for its time and today. Final score - 10/10 In conclusion - the first game Jak and Daxter is an amazing and fun game even today, it is a must play for platform lovers and is recommended for people who are looking for a fun platform game. Just a little tip for those who play: it is recommended to play the game with a lit YouTube video because the game does not explain how to get the things to look for.     The only Jak and Daxter game I like. The colourful and friendly world captivated me as a teen. I remember i rented the game and beat it in just one weekend. Good old times.

    From the way the game renders an entire world that you can explore from one end to the next without a single loading screen, to animation that literally trounces anything ever seen in any videogame, to game design that keeps things interesting despite being what some would call “just a fetch quest,” this is a perfect example of the next generation in videogames.
