Different, rewarding, intelligent, funny, and filled with memorable characters and weird creatures. Its damn fun, too, and will keep you performing the repetitive duties required of a monster raiser for far longer than youd ever imagine.
-
Never has there really been a game that allows you to have so much control over breeding monsters and hatching eggs, it truly is a unique experience. Some RPG goers might not like the shallow storyline.
-
With some innovative visuals, more involved gameplay, and spunky plot - Jade Cocoon 2 places itself a step above the rest.
-
Game InformerThe combination of missions, discovering new eggs, and furthering the story keeps this game from hitting that stale spell that plagues many RPGs. [Feb 2002, p.83]
-
A beautiful game that manages to have the appeal of its predecessor and winds up being both frustrating and addicting at the same time.
-
Fans of the original Jade Cocoon, as well as those enamored by games like Monster Rancher and Pokemon, will surely love this fascinating sequel.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyBursting with an ingenuity cure for jaded RPG gamers, JC2 inspires the sleeping role-play addict to awaken. [Feb 2002, p.148]
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineThe repetitive environments drag it down a bit, but thats far from a fatal blow. [Feb 2002, p.107]
-
PSM MagazineIts an interesting system that places emphasis on strategy rather than brute force, but, in the end, it still feels a little limited. [Feb 2002, p.38]
-
Its a very nuts and bolts sort of RPG with a fair amount of nooks and crannies to check out, but the game lacks the pop that will keep a player glued to their seat until the wee morning hours.
-
TotalGames.netDespite our disdain of the very concept of this game we did find it fairly engrossing.
-
Both the weak storyline and repetitive dungeons become tedium personified before you know it.
-
Visually appealing and highly addictive
-
The beauty of Jade Cocoon 2 is impressive but much like a supermodel, when you site down to actually get to know it, there's not much substance underneath all the pretty packaging.
-
An acquired RPG taste worth sampling with a rental.
-
JC2 shows promise initially, but a quirky sense of humor and an endearing fairy sidekick aren't enough to save it from becoming repetitive.
