Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It was released in 2009, yeah, really late in the PlayStation 2 life. Before 2018 when aside from a DS the PlayStation 2 was my only console it was mindblowing to have a console game from as late as 2009, LOL. Also this game goes for a solid amount of money, like $15 or so at the video game stores in my city. It's definitely worth it, this game is incredible, one of my most favorite games for PlayStation 2 and dare I consider it one of the greatest video games of all time, or maybe I just love Ice Age. I don't know.
The game lets you play as Sid, Manny AND Diego at some point in the game. Thank you, this is significantly better than the Ice Age 2 game where it's just Scrat. (I think a Scrat 3D platformer is a great idea but it should be it's own game, which apparently it is now but that's not what we're here to discuss)
Sid gets a few 3D platformer/exploration levels, Diego gets a racing level and Manny is only played as briefly, sure, but I'm thankful to even have a PlayStation 2 game where I can play as one of my childhood idols, thank you Eurocom! (Eurocom was the developer, who happened to make Atlantis The Lost Empire for PS1 8 years earlier, which I have the same kinds of opinions on as IADotD, the two games even have gameplay similarities, such as collecting crystals to unlock concept art, character models for viewing and cutscenes)
Scrat gets a couple of sidescrolling levels, and I think his female counterpart gets some gameplay spotlight too, if I recall correctly. Been a while since I played it actually.
But the majority of the game is playing as Buck the weasel in action adventure levels and combating dinosaurs with a whip. Combating dinosaurs you say? It sounds like Turok, the Son of Stone, has some competition! But jokes aside the Buck levels are incredible. A 3D action game where you play as Buck and fight dinosaurs is just perfect!
I noticed this game reuses some Ice Age 2 game tracks. I don't hear games reuse tracks often enough, I appreciate when that does happen because it helps connect games to each other more.
This game even has a multiplayer mode, like a party game with minigames that support up to 4 players which is awesome too! I wouldn't mind that being a seperate game if I am being honest because I really wish Ice Age got more video games. I mean, Shrek has like what, 30 video games, and Ice Age only has one game per movie (not counting any of the mobile apps or the unlicensed GBC game).
Also you can buy extras from Fast Tony. Eurocom did a great job on this game! This game is just incredible and I highly recommend to fellow PlayStation 2 game players, it's worth it!… Expand
