Half of High Heat 2003's thrills come from its intuitive, playable controls. Fielding and baserunning are a snap (though manual slides would have rocked), and the pitching/batting setup is one of the best ever.
-
This game may have a Bulldog face that only its mother may love, but once you get past the mediocre graphics you will love it too. Its magnificent gameplay on the field and customizable options off it, make it the console baseball game to beat.

Official U.S. Playstation MagazineThe best baseball game on the market. [Apr 2002, p.102]
-
High Heat, like Michelle [from "American Pie 2"], isn't the most glamorous choice, but once you get over the visual technicality what remains is a sports gaming masterpiece.
-
HHB 2003 has it all. Good looks, great presentation, solid AI, fun unique game modes and plenty of style.
-
Believe me, if you play baseball or enjoy watching it, youll love this gameit has that certain something that makes you play just one more time and time again.
-
While lacking top-tier graphics and a flashy presentation, High Heat 2003 proves to be an enormously good baseball game.
-
High Heat 2003 may not be the best looking or sounding baseball game, but its realistic gameplay laps the competition.
-
If you're anything like this reviewer, and your lookin' to have a good time (no, make that great time!) with a baseball game that emphasizes accurate game play with believable results once again, this year's version is the game to beat.
-
Sadly, there wasnt much effort put into the graphics--which would have made this the leading baseball title available--but there is always next years High Heat to look forward too.
-
Does High Heat still stand as the best playing baseball game around? A resounding, YES, would be my answer!
-
While not the graphical grand-slam 3DO promised, High Heat 2003 is a fresh game, a better game than its predecessors and a worthy contribution to any digital slugger's collection.
-
If you can look past the graphics, the gameplay alone makes this game worth owning.
-
There's also a smoothness to the throws and fielding that looks great, and the pitching animation is as realistic as you could hope for. There are even different animations for when a fielder loses one in the sun.
-
Engaging, visually stunning, and a whole lot of fun to play.
-
The animations are still clunky and jerk the players about spasmodically when transitioning between routines. That aside, the gameplay has maintained its solid core while expanding on the available options.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThis is the only next-generation game title that realistically re-creates every facet of the game...The graphics, animation and sound are much improved. [Mar 2002, p.135]
-
PSM MagazineFortunately, 3DO listened to complaints from last year's game and greatly improved the presentation with much graphics and animation, and amazingly accurate commentary. [Mar 2002, p.26]
-
The fluidity of the player movements and how fast and distinctive the game plays out is very realistic and far surpasses anything currently available. This truly is the best simulation baseball game on the PS2.
-
Runs circles around the competition thanks to its depth, wealth of options and intuitive controls.
-
Game InformerThis is about as close as you're going to get to a purely arcade-style baseball title. The gameplay is lightning quick. [Apr 2002, p.76]
-
The game still needs work in the visual department, but few titles come close to achieving the same balance of fun and realism as offered by HH 2003.
-
The lack of ability to control the pitch in the air is incredibly frustrating.
