Yes, there are other things to be unlocked in the harder modes but I still think the easy mode could have been a bit more challenging, or at least, given away LESS of the ending. However, I love this game, and I really hope a sequel is made. The story is what kept my going, so a sequel will need just as strong a story at this one. Expand

I have been playing games a long time and God of War was a blast. Most of the puzzles were a little too easy but now and then one or two take you for a ride. The battle, weapons, graphics and game play were stylish, responsive and a joy to use.. The interface and weapons were easy to use and master. It was a little short but cut over to God mode and get pounded. Great storyline, I have been playing games a long time and God of War was a blast. Honestly, one of the best games I've ever played. Graphics are some of the best, great animation, AMAZING score, and just fun as hell to play. My only complaints, the game felt too short and seemed to a might bit too easy (on normal mode anyway - this has been subsequently remedied on GOD mode). In either case, buy or rent this game. It is awesome.

This is the most gripping (I never use that word) game I have ever played, as it transcends what one believes to be a simple videogame and becomes an experience. It isn't the amazing graphics, story or gameplay that bring God of War to the forefront; it is, for me, the games sprawling environments. Even though you are confined to one linear path, you don't feel as if you are. This game convinces the player that they are part of a greater conflict, a war. When I entered Athens and saw armies raging below, I was moved... but i was moved even more when i climbed Pandora's temple and was able to see Kronos, carrying the massive buliding on his back, crawling below me; his head bobbing up and down in in agony. Yes, this game does not expand the genre very much, but it makes up for that fact by refining action adventure mechanics and implementing SUPERB presentation. God of War simply must be played to appreciated. While Resident Evil 4 is still my current favorite game of 2005, GoW is a very close second. Expand

The mark of a great game is its ability to appeal to players who normally don't care for the genre. The mark of a great gaming experience is its ability to make its players forget that they ever disliked the genre. God of War is that once-in-a-lifetime experience, and should be required playing for all gamers - players and developers alike.

BAD: You can cheat your way around far too many encounters. While boss battles and cage matches are great, standard encounters suffer from too many "dead points" where you can hide your character and attack without fear of reprisal. For example, if you are stuck in a hallway with a bunch of enemies, simply turn around and walk away. In most battles, there will be a limit beyond which they will not follow you. All you need to do is stand just outside of that range and blast away. OVERALL: Great game, but not perfect. If you like hack & slash or Greek Mythology, you'll love this game. Expand

Who here thinks Tely S. is on some serious drugs? Is he kidding or what? Does he honestly believe that people are not simply laughing at his asinine review right now when not one review has graded this game below a 90? Simply put, God of War is the best action adventure game yet to come out on Playstation 2. You are armed with the Blade of Chaos, a weapon that I would loosely compare to Who here thinks Tely S. is on some serious drugs? Is he kidding or what? Does he honestly believe that people are not simply laughing at his asinine review right now when not one review has graded this game below a 90? Simply put, God of War is the best action adventure game yet to come out on Playstation 2. You are armed with the Blade of Chaos, a weapon that I would loosely compare to Jean Reno's whip in Onimusha 3 but oh, so much better! You wield this thing so flawlessly and devastate your enemy with such precision that is isn't rare to rack up 200-hit combos in the process of destroying a pack of undead skeletons or Gorgons or Minotaurs or any of a wealth of mythological enemies. You can also gain magic throughout the game, granted to you by different Gods such as Aphrodite and Poseidon and when used in combination with your Blades of Chaos, you are a force to be reckoned with! Let me just say that I absolutely adored this game as much as everyone else who's reviewed it here (with the exception of Tely S. who is obviously a prepubescent malcontent who is desperately in need of a nap) and you would be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful and entertaining action/adventure game on the Playstation 2. From the gorgeous scenery and set designs to the intricate detailing of the numerous mythological creatures you encounter to the haunting score that adds an ominous yet engaging atmosphere to each new environment, this game was put together so well that after you finally complete it you will shed a tear for you will not want it to be open. But, wait! There's more, even after you beat the game, you unlock a slew of bonus features that puts the replay value of this game through the roof. Whether it be a series of challenging side-quests, new costumes for your hero to adorn, or interviews with the games designers, there is plenty here for you to enjoy and experience once the end credits roll for the main game. Please, do yourself a favor and immediately do what ever it takes to add this game to your collection. You will not be sorry. Expand

10!! Most emphatically 10. Great story, combined with beautiful art, a fantistically full and complex hero, brutal combos, and gruesome finishing moves, God of War takes all other games in this genre and banishes them to Hades. Phenomenal production values aside, the game is nothing more than boring button tapping combos against recycled LOTR monster rejects mixed with annoying platform elements with camera issues. Price of Persia, anyone? Nothing new or innovative, unless you count the Clash of the Titans inspired nude scenes.
