A pretty good game, just is not as good as the last. I agree with Ryan that it is very similar to the last one, though that's necessarily a bad thing. Really the only reasons I gave two points off is that the story is not as good or cohesive as the first. Instead of having motivation built through story line and character development, the levels this time around seem very contrived. You'll be going somewhere and get sidetracked by some artificial plot device way too often. Second, it is very unclear what you are supposed to do too often. For instance, you have to break this pillar to create a bridge, but how do you know you can do that when all the other pillars are indestructible? A good game, just not legendary like the first installment. Expand

GOW2 deserves a 10: -Graphics: it's better looking than any game on the PS2, and even looks better than a few games on the PS3. In terms of lighting, framerate, character models and movements, it's, for lack of a better word: brilliant. Just look at the scene where he's riding the Pegasus to the Island of the Fates and when he kills those gryphons. -Music: is thrilling, a GOW2 deserves a 10: -Graphics: it's better looking than any game on the PS2, and even looks better than a few games on the PS3. In terms of lighting, framerate, character models and movements, it's, for lack of a better word: brilliant. Just look at the scene where he's riding the Pegasus to the Island of the Fates and when he kills those gryphons. -Music: is thrilling, a sweeping epic score that puts most movies to shame. -Voice Acting: is great and doesn't sound forced (as in, the script writers aren't trying to be overly clever or archaic, which would make the voice acting sound silly). -Story: starts off with a bang and ends with a louder bang. This isn't like the first GOW where we have a long, drawn out story of Kratos' past. Rather, it's all about his present anger and thirst for vengence. Also, the use of Greek myth (for those who like this stuff like me) is a bonus, because you'll meet a lot of familiar characters, monsters and get to see a lot of familiar places. -Pacing/Puzzles: never gets bogged down and there's a fair bit of puzzle play thrown in to balance things out. -Gameplay Mechanics: GOW2 has the single best battle system of any game ever created. It's lightning fast and there's so many different moves and weapons which allow for great variety. If you think it's an easy game, that's because you haven't tried it on the more difficult modes. -The Golden Fleece power-up enhances the experience by giving you awesome counter-attacks, which also boosts the frenzied pace of the gameplay because you need to keep countering on the higher difficulty levels (I started the game on hard difficulty, and when fighting bosses I had to keep counter-attacking to survive). -Bosses: the scope of the boss battles is HUGE! I couldn't wait to encounter each new boss because they made it just that fun, from Theseus to the Barbarian King to the end bosses. And the way Kratos kills them all brings a tear of insanity to my eyes. -Trust me fellow gamers who haven't yet made this purchase: forget what everyone's saying (including me) and just go out and buy this game. You can rent it first, but that'll be a waste of money since you'll soon buy it anyway. -One of the top console games of all time. Expand

This is an excellent game, one of the best I've ever played. Even the graphics surprised me, because I played it on my PS3 and I thought it was a PS3 game. The puzzles got kind of annoying, I had to use a guide online for some of them. The ending was somewhat good and somewhat bad. I really wanted to kill Zeus, but the ending just made me want to reserve the GOW3 next year.

God of War II improved on the original in every way possible the characters, weapons, powers, moveset, enemies, bosses, and locations are all bigger and badder then the last. The only flaws with the game in my eyes was that the storyline didn't feel as epic as the first and it's realy just more of the same but that's being nitpicky.

There's no real "in-depth" explanation that can be associated with reviewing this game.

All I can really analyze is what, besides the amazing use of Greek-lore and brutal combat system, makes the game's story its strong point. God of War II does what games today can not often comes close to. It makes the player WANT what Kratos wants. It gives the player Kratos' need for revenge.

God of War II does what games today can not often comes close to. It makes the player WANT what Kratos wants. It gives the player Kratos' need for revenge. This was the driving force behind myself playing this game. God of War II does an EXCELLENT job in making sure the gamer won't just play the story like it's a chore; they make the gamer WANT revenge. The most surprising thing about this is that they don't convey that need through an immense exchange and emphasis of Kratos' "inner feelings". They build up the desire through making the player hate every enemy, and their destruction through one of the most metal combat systems of the game's time. Of course, the main flaw in the game is it's repetitiveness during it's middle, but I'd easily recommend this game to anyone who prefers beat'em'ups.
I'd rate this game an 8.5 if I could, but rounding up is the next best thing.

You get to go through more levels this time as there is less backtracking than there normally is in a game like this. So the game stays fresh throughout. Then you get to see other characters from Greek mythology and you normally get to see Kratos rip them apart in very unpleasant ways. There are a couple of good boss fights in this one, most you have to figure some trick to defeat them. At one point when I was fighting the Kraken I just could not figure out why it was not dying, then I figured out the trick necessary to kill him. The fighting is pretty much the same as the first game, but then if it is not broke do not fix it. Though as with the first game they give you extra weapons, but the default blades are still the best. All the other weapons just tend to lag while with the default ones, combat is so much smoother. Though there are a couple of really nice spells in this one as the earthquake spell really did some damage. The game is not perfect though, there are one to many timing puzzles that drove me crazy, and the game is once again on the short side. Still, it is nice to play a game that is not tailored to the online crowd and I am hoping that God of War III is also just a very grand single player adventure. Expand

God of War II, just like many other sequels, improves and polishes everything that worked in the first game, while also making the worst aspects of the original much, much better.

STORY: The story begins where the first one left off. Kratos, now being the new God of war, is just sitting in his God throne, when suddenly he decides to destroy the city of Sparta, Athena tries to stop Kratos, since every time he destroys another city, the Gods become more and more angry. Kratos refuses Athena's warning and when he starts to rekt **** up, an eagle comes from the sky and reduces Kratos's size and gives life to a giant statue.

Eventually Kratos, after damaging the colossus multiple times, Zeus gives him the Blade of Olympus in order to destroy the colossus, but to that Kratos had to put all of his Godly powers into the Blade, making him mortal again. After defeating the colossus Kratos gets injured from the giant hand that fell on him and the eagle appears which turns out to be Zeus. Who after having a brief talk with Kratos, proceeds to kill him, but then Kratos escapes from hell ,with the advice of the Titan Gaia, and goes after The Sisters of Faith to go back in time and kill Zeus.

PRESENTATION: God of War II looks amazing even by today's standards. Every model, every animation, every detail, everything looks great and with the HD makeover of the PS3 (which was the way i played it), it looks even better.

The cutscenes also look great, while the "in game visual cutscenes" look pixelated, the pre-render ones still look gorgeous.

And don't even get me on the music, most of the soundtrack is just to enhance the ambience, the rest are memorable, great songs that will prepare you to face Zeus 101.

Since i played this on the PS3, not only the game is in HD, but the frame rate was also improved with a much more consistent 60fps than in the PS2 version.

The presentation is solid and aside from some nitpicks, i really don't have anything to complain about, it's a definitive improvement from the original in every single way.

GAMEPLAY: However a great story and presentation don't make a great game (in the majority of cases), that core will always be the gameplay, so let's see what God of War II has to offer.

Just like its predecessor, God of War II is a hack and slash were you beat the **** out of every single thing that comes in your way (and it makes you feel like a badass). Combat remains pretty much the exact same, you still do combos to wipe out enemies, you have a light attack, a heavy attack, a block button, a grab button, a jumping button, a magic button, the rolling and the weapons and abilities that you get thought the way like:

Athena's Blades: This is your main weapon and the one that you will have throughout the entire game and it can be upgraded a total of 5 times.

Spear of destiny: This is one of your sub-weapons, it's a little bit more fast, but with less range, meh, i don't really use it that much.

Barbarian Hammer: This is another sub-weapons, it's slow, but powerful...and it's not very useful.

Head of Euryale: Converts enemies into rocks, something i did a grand total of 2 times in the entire game.

Atlas Quake: You do 2 big stomps to the ground and it can be upgraded to throw rocks, not very helpful in my opinion.

Cronos rage: This is the replacement that we get of Poseidon's rage, you can do a chain of thunder attacks, which is very helpful and the best ability in y opinion.

Typhon's Bane: The replacement of Zeus's fury and It's a Bow.

Icarus Wings: This will allow you to glide.

Rage of the titans: This is the replacement of Spartans rage from the original game and it functions pretty much the same, it transforms Kratos into a unstoppable killing machine and it's pretty much God mode (pun totally intended) and it can be replenished by killing enemies and finding the new yellow orbs.

You also get a piece of armor that deflects enemy attacks and an amulet that can slow down time.

Once again you can upgrade the abilities with the red orbs that you get from chests and killing enemies and the blue and green variation is back to replenish your magic and life respectively, you find this ones on chests and you can upgrade your life and magic by finding the gargoyle's eyes and phoenix feathers.

My main complain of GOW 1 where the lazy, bad puzzles, well i'm happy to report that his is no longer the case, the puzzles are a lot better and there's a lot more variety this time around than just dragging a box to a certain place.

Oh and the Bosses are also great, requiring stragetie, patients, skill and clever use of the weapons at your disposal.

In conclusion God of War II is a must own for any PS2 or PS3 owner, the graphics, the music, the bosses, the puzzles, the variety, the story, absolutely everything is great and improved from the original, making it, in my opinion, the BEST God of War game ever made. i'll give it a 10/10

The first game I thought was a fantastic story burdened by clunky mechanics that turned parts of gameplay into outright chores but this game was almost the opposite: a smooth game without as impressive a narrative. I never really felt to beat the game in order to see what became of my playing, but rather to beat the game in order to move onto the next one. Instead of this rags to riches plot that made the first so compelling, this is just a revenge tale that plays pretty much the same. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the game but before I go into my positives, i thought I’d get the negatives out of the way beforehand. So, damn this game was fun. The added scale and spectacle truly made this feel epic mostly in the sequences that allowed you to fly Pegasus, climb up Titans, and just prove that you are the God of War and not just a soldier of death. Being able to fight Zeus and truly feel like you’re able to kick his ass given the work you’ve done to upgrade your attacks and weapons was extremely fulfilling. The puzzles werent nearly as puzzling but being able to sprint through them just sort of added to the power I felt at the controls of our anti-hero. It’s a ton of fun, that much I can’t deny. Flying with the wings of Icarus was also an added bonus which brings me to my favorite and least favorite parts of the game: the lore it swims, and sometimes drowns, in. Look, it’s really great to interact with Greek gods, Titans, and other creatures of lore but sometimes I thought that the game would have benefitted from re-writing some of these elements. Mainly, 10-arm 10-boobed Great Uncle Ugly that you have to beat towards the end. That was more offputting and disgusting than threatening and I wanted to get it over with more than I did want to feel accomplished by beating him. but now I’m going to start Chains of Olympus and see where that story takes us. "God of War II" was arguably the last truly great PS2 game. Released during the twilight days of Sony's second console, it held up amazingly well. GOW II is a big sequel that refined and expanded upon its legendary predecessor. It might borrow a little too much from the first GOW, but it's still amazing. Graphics, sound, cutscenes all push the PS2 to its limits so if I were a game critic, maybe I would have rated this higher.

Core game is still the same and I do not like it. I still hate button mashing; I still hate quick time events and God of War II has a lot of those. It is also as much a puzzle and platforming game as it is an action, so expect plenty of puzzle solving and precise platforming. So yes, it is an epic journey with some good boss fights and a great story, but it’s just not for me.

The second God of War game is far superior to the original for the sole fact that it isn’t as unforgiving as the first game. I

know what you’re thinking oh Brandon is a little girl who needs his hand held through all his games. That’s not it at all because it wasn’t the combat in the original that pissed me off; it was the unforgiving puzzles that drove me to the point of insanity. God of War 2 has puzzles that test your brain not how quickly you can jump from one box to another.

The story of God of War 2 starts with Kratos as the God of War and let’s just say the dude is still **** pissed about the whole family thing. I am still not going to spoil God of War because I believe there are still people out there who haven’t played it and would like to. So Kratos decides to have his armies ransack cities loyal to certain Gods. I forget why but he is pissed at every God for what has happened.
He ends up pissing off Zeus and Zeus tricks him into syphoning his powers into this sword to beat this well living statue. Which again bravo God of War it starts you out as a badass fighting a giant monster. Granted a giant statue isn’t half as cool as fighting the Hydra but it isn’t much of a step down. After his powers are drained into the sword that’s when Zeus strikes and kills Kratos. You heard me boys and girls he kills him. In doing so that sends him to
the underworld, where he meets the Titians. They tell him about how the Gods came to be and they also help him escape the underworld to extract his revenge. The rest of the game is Kratos finding a way to stop Zeus from killing him. The game has a weird twist at the end for those of you that have played this game what’d you think of the twist I thought that was weak and more of a “really?” moment.

The game sounds great the music hasn’t changed well at all and in all honesty in all the God of War games the music is about the same. Kratos talks a hell of a lot more he isn’t just going rawr for eight hours. What he says is still along the lines of I will destroy you and murder!! Even with that they also have other characters talk besides the Narrating Titan. They have small parts but it helps the story way more than the last game.

The game looks way better than the first, which is weird you think they would’ve spent more time making the first one look better and less time in this one. This came out towards the end of the PS2 so a little polish was needed not a bunch. They added so many new monsters in this game and the new boss fights were way better than the 4 you got in the first. What I really love about this series in general is seeing what Greek legend or creature will Kratos tear a new **** into.

The game plays the same as the first but the controls are way more polished and make more sense. The big one they changed was having R2 open
everything. I don’t know why but when I played the first that seemed so unnatural. Besides the game being way more brutal and having more of a thinking man’s kind of puzzles the game really does play like any other God of War which is a great thing. Think about it so many hack n’ slashes now copy the God of War format somehow and if you are playing those you stop that **** right now and see how this game started it all.

Overall if you like God of War 2 back on the PS2 go back and play this one. Especially if you have never played one start with two then go back to one it is such a better experience. I highly recommend this game to everyone who likes hack n’ slash games. Own this HD pack it’ll be worth every penny, I give this a 8. If you’d like me to review a game for whatever reason let me know in the comments section.

The best game in the series, although keep in mind I've played all the games before the norse reboot so my opinion may well change. Epic cinematic feel is the strong suit of the game, Kratos controls and pulls off outlandish stunts reminiscent of the ancient warrior epics he's based on. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Almost straight sequence in the first game, at least in my view. I was at the beginning of this one, I stopped and went to play Ghost of Sparta. In some ways I prefer the first game and in some this one.

The story of God of War 2 is much more complex in narrative aspects than the first, but I liked it a little more, Kratos' story captivated me. The 'prologue' is quite frantic and cool to play. But the beginning of the game is really strange, Kratos is very pissed. I did some research and saw that Ghost of Sparta was made between the first and the second game 'fixing' this hole. Zerei Ghost of Sparta and I recommend playing before that. Anyway, my main criticism of the story was the presentation, I found the rhythm of the story very bad, at first it was reasonable but here the distance of each cutscene worsened a lot. Only the beginning and end of the game are full of them. Apart from that the game ends in the 'climax' of Kratos' story, which at first is badass, but the truth is that it is kind of a joke.

The gameplay is better in general, but without major changes. The parry system is much more useful and is much more 'complex' than in the first game. The number of boss fights increased a lot compared to the first game, but that left most of them in that little striking. Some pretty bad sequences, like the one with the falling pillars and the one with the skeleton elevator. In the first game, this was practically non-existent. You can use 2 weapons 'at the same time' and the way of combining the two is reasonable, personally I didn't do much combining despite switching between 2 constantly. The puzzles remained good but I found them a little inferior in general.

Some checkpoints are 'bad', something I had no problem with at first. Many things were reused in the first game, with slight changes, from textures to enemies, combos, and a specific skill.

The graphics are very similar in general. The cinematics are fantastic, they were good in the first one, but here they are absurd.

The soundtrack remains very unique and characteristic of the saga. I found it decent but very little varied.

I replayed this game to get ready for the new God of War on the PS4. I loved it back when I first played it, but for some reason I didn't care for as much as I use to. Maybe as I grew older, I started realizing that Kratos was a one dimensional character, or maybe because I played it so much that I know were everything is by memory. Anywho, I still wanted to give it credit were credit is due.

An incredible game that improves on everything the 1st had good. A game that in every second there is action which makes the game very immersive. A simply phenomenal soundtrack. The story is amazing that ends on a high point to have a continuation in God of War III

God of War (2005) was an excellent game that did not take long to wait and for 2 years it brings us a full-fledged sequel. Is the success repeated, as in the first part? Is it also such a MASTERPIECE, or a failed sequel? I'll tell you straight. Another awesome game! God of War II follows right on where the first part ended. Is the success repeated, as in the first part? Is it also such a MASTERPIECE, or a failed sequel? I'll tell you straight. Another awesome game! God of War II follows right on where the first part ended. Again, not much is talked about and we continue in the threshing machine, which again knows no limits and is bloodthirsty, as was the case in the previous part. Again, it's about improving the character, which results in even better action. In short, God of War II repeats what God of War I meant by what worked and still works this time. Wonderful locations enriched with a masterful soundtrack and, of course, delicious battles. There will be some more puzzles, and one of them gave me a hell of a chance before I figured out what to do. As I mentioned, the game again has wonderful locations, which have undergone a slight change. The beautiful palaces, which they did, were also in the previous work, but here they came to me a little nicer. It will also occur in parts purely outside these buildings. I don't want to spoiler much, but let's say that as the desert is in number one, we will see a few such locations here as well. To sum it all up. God of War II repeats what God of War I does, but in my opinion it brings nothing new. Yes, the fact is that a lot of people object to the fact that there is a story that surpasses the number one and I have nothing against it. Personally, I liked the one of the first a little more, so God of War II lags a little behind the first part for me. But don't get me wrong. It's not a botched sequel. What's more… it's a successful proper sequel and an amazing game that I recommend. Expand

The mechanics have improved since God of War I and it's an entertaining and classic game. However, I think that being in the same setting with the same goal has a bad impact on the game.

Не смотря на старость игры, общий сюжет и геймплей достаточно выверенный, чтобы рекомендовать вам эту игру.

God of War II may in fact be the best action game ever made. It outdoes the original God of War in every way.

There are a few brilliant core improvements, such as the beautifully implemented grappling system that lets you swing around with your blades. But for the most part, the game's best features are context-specific things rather than features that change or improve the title as a whole...A stellar example of what can be done when a developer focuses on telling a story and lets that drive the game.
  3. It's not just one element that turned the game into a masterpiece, it's every element – the controls (perfection), world design (unbelievably creative), combat (exciting and challenging), and enemy selection (unreal) are just a few of the reasons why this is PS2’s best first-party release.
