FlatOut 2 seems a little too slick for its own good in spots, but it still manages to provide plenty of destructive racing fun.
-
The game’s multiplayer and online modes would make it the perfect game for a group of friends to gather and bash each other for a while. If you can overcome the difficulty level of the single player campaign, and think that the demolition derby and quirky stunt modes would be your cup of tea, do not hesitate to pick this title up.
-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKBrilliantly chaotic, relentlessly quick and rammed with gaming modes to keep you at it. Fasten your seat belts. [July 2006, p.82]
-
BoomtownA solid and enjoyable racing game, with some nice quirky features, but one that falls short of greatness by lacking something really special.
-
games(TM)An invigorating shot of speed and carnage that tops that of the original, even if it does fall short of the mighty "Burnout." [Aug 2006, p.121]
-
With everything ultimately both bigger and better, with more destruction, and much more depth, Bugbear Entertainment are coming ever close to a winner. If the handling is tightened, and the rest of the game makes another healthy step forward, another sequel on the next generation of consoles could be the first certain winner.
-
FlatOut 2 drives a fine line, but manages to come out on the good side more often than not. It might be a good idea to tether that controller to your wrist, though, because it's possible you'll send it flying just as much as your driver.
-
FlatOut 2 is fun, if only for a little while.
-
Given the right direction, FlatOut could one day compete, maybe even overtake, the games that inspired its creation. But first it’s got a lot of growing up to do.
-
The additional bells and whistles of FlatOut 2 suggest enough difference to legitimise its existence, but ultimately there is nothing substantially new here.
-
The handling is a little floaty and the game hasn’t really evolved, but when you’re having fun you’re unlikely to care all that much at all.
-
Play UKA classic 69. It's fun until you realise you're not getting enough out of it and that there are better games to play. Find something that allows for deeper penetration rather than the surface tickling provided by FlatOut 2. [Issue 142, p.86]
-
If you enjoy mindless destruction wrought by a bunch of maniacs driving at breakneck speeds through narrow, twisted tracks, then you may enjoy Flatout 2 as well.
-
Flat Out 2 brings the same gameplay to the table the second time around, although it just doesn’t seem to have the same vibe as the original did.
-
Play MagazineFlatOut 2, as a racing game, is competent, but marred by a poor sense of speed. [Aug 2006, p.63]
-
There is a potentially interesting game here, but more often than not, its gimmicks lose their appeal and then you’re just left with a sub-standard and less enjoyable "Burnout."
-
Both more of the same and a little less. The challenges don’t hold their appeal for long and a lot of the problems from the first game have reappeared in this one, but anyone looking for a racing game that rewards you for knocking over fences and road signs will be hard pressed to find better.
-
Edge MagazineWhere FlatOut felt like racing in a field, FlatOut 2 feels like racing on a film set. It has been reshaped into the archetype, competent arcade racer. [Aug 2006, p.89]
-
Like the original game, the best way to play FlatOut 2 is with a group of drunken buddies. No one's ever going to mistake it for anything more than it is: an adequate execution of a silly idea.
-
You'll instinctively reach for the seatbelt in this aggressive display of reckless racing.
-
If you were a fan of the first and are happy with the “more is great” attitude, then Flatout 2 is for you. Everyone else, this game is just a rental if just for the mini games and destruction derby arenas.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyFlatout 2 is pretty much like the first "Flatout", which was pretty much like a poor man's "Burnout". [Sept. 2006, p.98]

Jun 22, 2022One of the coolest car games the PS2 has ever had, it's only towards the end of the circuit racing game that the game doesn't get so cool
