This is really a gem of a game that, while short, is a steal at a release price of $30. Like a good bourbon, it goes down smooth but is over all too quickly, but this isn’t a reason to marginalize it.
-
Never before has a game simulated playing the life of a fish so well, and it’s done in such a loveable and cartoonish way that both younger and mature gamers will love it all the same.

Edge MagazineThere’s a vibrancy that ensures progress is a pleasure and backtracking is seldom a chore – in fact, the game is often at its best when you’re free from the demands of unlocking the next section and simply revelling in your buoyant weightlessness. [Nov 2004, p.110]
-
Finny's tone and relative simplicity make it clear that it was designed for the younger end of the lunchbox spectrum, but vague mission structure and some unusually punishing elements work against the rest of the design.
-
If a kid wants to play as a fish, then Finny is up their alley and hopefully they'll give up before the annoying gameplay gets to them.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineGoes right off the deep end with its length - the entire game can be completed in one six-hour sitting. [Apr 2005, p.102]
