A dream come true for console gamers who have wanted to have a online adventure game! I have always loved the Everquest series for the PC, and the transition over to the Playstation was a smooth one.
-
While many of the improvements fell short of our expectations this is still a better version of the game than the original EQOA. Frontiers is a bigger world, plays smoother, and has MARGINAL bonuses in sounds and looks.
-
If MMORPGing sounds like it might appeal to you, then you'll not be disappointed with Frontiers. It's a solid online RPG experience that works very well.
-
A solid adventure for gamers who want the EverQuest experience in a console format. It is richly rendered and provides a solid entertainment experience.
-
Cheat Code CentralFrontiers is a damn good expansion pack and there's no reason not to have it if you have a character from the last game that is leveled-up somewhere in between 40 - 50. The replay value is incredible.
-
PSM MagazineFrontiers pulls out some great new tricks, and the world of Everquest has never been more accessible. [Feb 2004, p.30]
-
Its a fun game that slowly grows on you, but like all MMO games, it takes a special kind of gamer to enjoy.
-
While the hardcore will likely turn up their noses, preferring the likes of "Everquest," "Star Wars Galaxies" or "Final Fantasy Online," those who simply want an easier and more instantly gratifying entry into the massively multiplayer arena will find Frontiers to be a perfect fit.
-
It may be friendly to newcomers with its simple combat mechanics, but the depth and replayabilty found here is unlike anything else currently available for the PlayStation 2.
-
Theres little depth, but its a decent tradeoff for the ease of play that only EQOA: Frontiers offers.
-
Frontiers has done a brilliant job in updating and expanding upon EQOA. Fans of the original will have little to no excuse in putting off purchasing this title to see all the new features.
-
The environments are graphically tedious, the targeting system is downright baffling, and unless you have a USB keyboard, you'll spend so much time navigating the cursor around to enter text, you'll think you should be getting experience points for it. [Feb 2004, p.103]
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineUnless you have friends already playing or a high tolerance for monotony, you might want to give Frontiers a pass, especially with "Final Fantasy XI" around the corner. [Feb 2004, p.101]
-
An ideal title for people whove never partaken in the MMOG scene to use to test the waters. Like most of the other entries in the genre, it is a leveling treadmill, but it is a really well designed one.
-
New players will immediately find in Frontiers a new race and character class, as well as some slightly improved visuals, but this expansion is still best-suited to those already addicted to a'EQOA."
-
This is the kind of game that you have to sink many, many hours into, so you might just want to wait for the vastly superior "Final Fantasy XI." [Feb 2004, p.120]
