The most beautifully balanced, well-crafted 2D beat-‘em-up to grace God’s fair Earth.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineThis time we're treated to 2D characters on top of 3D backgrounds - major improvement. [Dec 2001, p.160]
-
You’ll know by now not to expect any radical changes, but a better game through slow refinement and evolution, and for this reason only purists will want this title if they own the original.
-
Hardly a groundbreaking fighting game, but it delivers a massive lineup of classic characters coupled with a tried-and-true fighting engine. It’s rock-solid fighting, plain and simple.
-
It seems that Capcom does listen to its followers, because CVS2 is light year ahead of its predecessor, in game play, options, and presentation.
-
Like a large pot of soup. The soup makes a great dinner for the first few days, but by the end of the week, it isn't quite as appetizing as it was before.
-
A very fine 2D fighter...The only disadvantage to its arrival on PS2 is the inevitable difficulty caused by the PS2 controller, and with luck that will be remedied by a decent fighting solution soon.
-
Its depth is certainly daunting... it's only appealing in the long term for those who are willing to devote some time to learning its intricacies.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyIt’s like every aspect of 2D fighting history converging on a single screen, and it’s almost mind-boggling. [Dec 2001, p.236]
-
One of the best 2D fighting games available, not just on the PlayStation 2, but on any system.
-
A great modern anthology of 2D fighters. If you go gaga over every new Capcom or SNK fighter released, you’ll absolutely love this game.
-
The largest problem with this game seems to be the difficulty. The end-game bosses are seriously some of the hardest I’ve ever seen in a fighting game.
-
A wonderful showcase for those forgotten SNK fighters, but it’s also geared for highly knowledgeable players who know the difference between a cross-up and a deep cross.
-
Retro fighting game fans, don’t pass this up.
-
Given the graphics power of the PS2, the thing I found myself wanting the most were high quality character animations. CvS2 often looks just like the same old sprite fighters we’ve seen over the last few years.
-
Game InformerI love the color edit and backgrounds, and the character list can't be beat. [Dec 2001, p.95]
-
Ultimately too much like many of the Capcom fighters that have come before it.
-
As for sound, you'll probably feel the same way I do if you play this game frequently: Can the announcer please just shut up?! I mean, for just one second?
-
Does what the first one did and ups the ante with more characters and grooves, but doesn’t do too much new from the first.
-
A collaboration of love for gamers who have been fanatics of either or both series.
-
Although Capcom vs. SNK 2 doesn’t break any new ground, there is enough depth here to keep any 2D fighting game fan happy.
-
Those who haven't played a fighting game in a long time might also be impressed, but the weak visuals will be a major turnoff for the average gamer.
