    Fast, fun and free multiplayer game. many game modes, classic game modes and new one as well with veichles and mods. A must! Oh and it is open source!

    The best fully free first-person shooter out there with good graphics and extremely addictive gameplay. Why pay for COD when you have an equally addictive shooter waiting to be downloaded? Oh and it has a great leaderboards site that you can check any time you want ( http://stats.xonotic.org/ ) as well as very diverse modes of gameplay made by the community.     If you're looking for the best instagib gameplay there is, it's Xonotic. Instagib + hook gameplay is incredibly fast and highly addictive. You'll be playing with the best from day one, so there is a very steep learning curve, but it's worth it.

    Xonotic is a really fun, fast-paced shooter. Since it's focused on multiplayer, lots of work has been put into online games, with tons of different gamemodes, lots of servers to choose from (albeit with few players), and great weapon balance. Speaking of weapons, each weapon in Xonotic has a different function than any other; the Blaster is for launching yourself in the air, the ShotgunXonotic is a really fun, fast-paced shooter. Since it's focused on multiplayer, lots of work has been put into online games, with tons of different gamemodes, lots of servers to choose from (albeit with few players), and great weapon balance. Speaking of weapons, each weapon in Xonotic has a different function than any other; the Blaster is for launching yourself in the air, the Shotgun can do strong melee, the Electro can set electric traps that you can shoot at to deal over 100 damage, the rocket launcher can be laser-guided with the mouse and detonated midair, and much more...

    Onto the graphics: on the lowest settings, it looks like Quake III Arena. On the highest settings, it's on par with many AAA games. All of the textures, models, and maps are very well designed (especially the maps), and compliment the game's fast-paced nature. You got to conquer the level's geometry to efficiently get around to fire a rocket at the enemy before he returns the favor! Or, if you have the hook enabled (which functions similarly to Link's hookshot, but can fire at any wall, really quickly, and you can fire your weapon while using it), then getting around can be even more fluid!

    Onto gamemodes, the most common you will see are Capture the Flag, (Team) Deathmatch, and Defrag (racing). There's also vehicles that can be found in some maps (in CTF in particular). In fact, there's a server at the time of writing that only does vehicle maps, and it's well populated most of the time. As for the less common gamemodes, there's keyhunt, freeze tag, domination, keepaway, assault, clan arena, and the list goes on.

    The game is very well polished and has a good community. If you're sick of modern realistic shooters, try this out. It's for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and for the amazing price of $0.00!    … Expand

    Very good game that blends the best parts of UT and Quake. While it is a clone of those games, it is a damn good one and also offers support for users on non-windows operating systems unlike UT and Quake. It is constantly updated even to this day and is also completely free, and open source. You get so much value out of this game, access to the best parts of the arena shooter genre asVery good game that blends the best parts of UT and Quake.     Awesome arena shooter with good graphics and Q3-like movement. Weapons have two fire modes like in UT.
